The Girl
On the Girl
Hi! I’m Amber and I’m 21 years old. Thanks for stopping by my blog!

Currently, I’m living in Kamloops, BC with my cat – who I treat more like a child – Webster. My boyfriend, Eric, lived with us for a year when he was going to school. In September 2009, he moved back to our hometown - Fort St. John BC - to complete his apprenticeship so we are currently in a long-distance relationship. A distance of 1,000 km (620 miles). It’s hard and I miss him every day. But I’m trekking through!

I have been blogging since September 2008 when I first moved to Kamloops for school. I am currently attending Thompson Rivers University and in April 2010 I will graduate and receive a Bachelor of Journalism with a major in Public Relations.
Right now, I am a full-time student and I work part-time at Communication Solutions Inc. as an Account Assistant. I started working there in May 2009 as an unpaid intern. I have since been offered a part-time position and have gained experience in all the different aspects of working in a marketing and public relations agency. I love my job, I love learning and doing something different every day! Two things that I am very passionate about are writing and social media. The blogging community is an amazing place and I’m so grateful to be a part of it.

In January 2008, I changed my lifestyle around. I started making healthy choices and recording my food and making a conscious effort to workout on a regular basis. In six months I lost 25 pounds and healthy living has become a large part of my day-to-day life. A year later, in January of 2009 I started running and I have since trained for and ran three half-marathons as well as a handful of other races. You can read more about that in the Race Recaps section. I will be running my first full marathon on October 10, 2010 in Portland, Oregon!

Healthy living is a very important part of my life. I keep a very busy schedule, and running and eating healthy foods is the only thing that has allowed me to maintain that lifestyle. Since I started treating my body better I get sick less often and have more energy than ever. Healthy living is another thing I am passionate about.
Blogging has literally changed my life, when I first started blogging I did it as a way to practice writing and keep my friends and family updated on my life since I had moved far away. I had no idea the amazing people I would “meet” through my blog and it has since become a major part of my day-to-day life. I consider the people I have met my friends and I can’t imagine my life without this little corner of the internet!
On “The Girl with the Red Hair”
When I made the switch from blogger to wordpress I was unsure of what to name my new blog and I thought about it for weeks.
Then the idea came to me. Throughout my life I’ve been a lot of things; a hockey player, a swimmer, a friend, a daughter, a sister, a girlfriend, a student, a lifeguard, a waitress, a writer, a foodie, a blogger, a runner, a reader. Some of these things have remained constant, some have changed, one thing I’ve always been is “The Girl with the Red Hair.”

I chose that title because this blog is about me, and my life and I felt that it best suited where I was in my life at the time.
This blog is about my life, my likes, my dislikes and topics I’ve been pondering. I don’t limit the content on my blog in anyway but I tend to write a lot about running, healthy living, food, careers, being a student and being in a long-distance relationship.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions, comments or just to say “hi”!
