First off, thank you to Leigh for this wonderful Christmas ornament for the Canadian Bloggers Christmas Swap. What a perfect ornament to add to our tree this year 🙂

The high of my week was I feel like this is a kind of sad SAHM type thing to say… but my high of the week was watching episode after episode of Life in Pieces on Netflix yesterday. I just cuddled up on the couch with my sweet girl on my chest and binged Netflix. Life in Pieces is SO FUNNY and the perfect mindless show for me to be watching right now. Also, ALL the newborn cuddles was a high of my week. I seriously love the snuggles at this age and I am soaking them up.

The low of my week was Eric going back to work on Tuesday. Luckily he only works until the 22nd and then he has 9 days off for the Christmas holidays. But then in the New Year he goes back on night shift. I can’t even think about it, it makes me too sad.

A podcast episode I loved was The Mom Hour episode on Newborn Attachment. Obviously very relevant to where I am in my life right now considering I spend all day with a newborn – who is 3 weeks old today!

For my workouts, I completed walks. Still just doing short walks of 15 – 20 minutes right now. Today I am going to go for my first slightly longer walk at the walking track. I’m 3 weeks postpartum today and plan to wait the full recommended 6 weeks until I start actual workouts again, but I do want to continue walking daily and keep slowly adding time to my walks so I can build back up to walking for a full hour. I am feeling pretty great and on my way to healed at 3 weeks postpartum, which is great! Also yesterday was my first walk with Olivia in one of my carriers. I will have to do a full blog post on the carriers we are using at some point. It went pretty well but I didn’t have it quite tight enough so felt like I had to have one hand under her bum for extra support the whole time.

The best money I spent was on mailing our Christmas cards! We don’t always do Christmas cards but this year I wanted to because we took some adorable Christmas-y photos during our newborn photo shoot. I kind of combined them into a birth announcement for Olivia too. So excited for everyone to get them!

My plans this weekend include going for lunch with a friend on Saturday and that’s about all I have in the way of actual ‘plans’, You just never know what each day is going to look like right now because my boss is only 3 weeks old. Plus with Eric working through the weekends and me on maternity leave weekends don’t really feel ‘special’ at all. They are just two more days of the week! So no real plans this weekend other than lunch with a friend, going for walks, hanging out with my baby 🙂

What was the high and low of your week? What are your plans this weekend?

TGIF – Weekend Edition!

I didn’t take enough photos (or do enough fun things) for a full-fledged weekend recap, so here is a weekend recap TGIF style!

The high of my weekend was the beautiful weather we are having up here! We have woken up to little skiffs of snow twice now (see above picture from last Thursday morning), but it’s always melted by the end of the day and it’s still getting up to around 10 C (50 F) during the day with the sun shining. Considering last year we had full fledged winter by this time I will not complain even a little bit and am continuing to enjoy this as long as it lasts.

I also had a prenatal massage on Saturday, and while it was quite painful and uncomfortable at the time it really helped with some of the aches and pains I’ve been having in my legs and back so the after effects of that could be considered a high of the weekend 🙂

The low of my weekend was waking up with a sore throat yesterday morning. Eric was quite sick last week and had to take a day off work and I was scared I’d caught it. But spending all of Sunday morning on the couch watching Netflix / reading / dozing seemed to have nipped it in the bud. Fingers crossed!

A podcast episode I loved was the Fall Extravaganza episode on The Girl Next Door. It was ah-ma-zing. I have binge listened to the episodes since the beginning over the last 4 months and I’m so sad to officially be all caught up now. However, this may have been my favourite episode yet. I was actually laughing out loud while listening to it on a walk with Chloe. I’m sure people thought I was a bit crazy as I walked along with a giant smile on my face and laughing out loud. The part where Kelsey is ordering their drinks at Starbucks is the best.

And because I was inspired by that episode, here is a photo of my fall decor on our front porch!

For my workouts, I completed a yoga class on Saturday morning, a 20-minute walk Saturday afternoon and another 20-minute walk on Sunday. Definitely slowing down a lot in these last few weeks. It was a vinyasa flow yoga class, but I am definitely not flowing anymore! My yoga practice includes blocks, knees down always and no more downward dog right now BUT it still feels great to move my body and stretch.

The best money I spent was on nothing. I only spent money on boring adult things this weekend like groceries and a mechanic bill for my car going into the shop. I guess if I had to pick something it would be the coffee I bought after yoga on Saturday morning.

My plans this week include my last full work week! My last day of work is October 31, so I still have 2 days next week, but this is my last full 5-day work week before maternity leave. It definitely feels very surreal. I have been working full-time since the spring of 2009, so it seems weird to have a long stretch of no structured work schedule ahead of me. It also feels a bit strange to be going on leave not knowing for sure when this baby is going to come. I could have 1 week, 2 weeks, 3 weeks or even (god forbid) almost 4 weeks off work before we have a baby!

Anyways, it is also Eric’s week off from work so in the evenings and on the weekend we are going to put the finishing touches on the baby’s room, go to our last prenatal class, install our car seat and just do a bunch of baby prep! I am 37 weeks today, so baby could literally come anytime now.

What was the best money you spent on the weekend? What was the high of your weekend?

Better late than never with my TGIF post! I didn’t get home until 10pm last night so just did not have it in me to write it last night.

The high of my week was attending a fun sign painting class last night with my mom. I signed us up for this class as a birthday present to her back in August. I made the below sign for Baby H’s nursery 🙂 The top lettering is a little crooked, but other than that I’m super happy with how it turned out!

The low of my week was definitely discovering that our sewer had backed up on Wednesday night. 20 minutes before I was going to leave to go to prenatal yoga. Suffice to say, yoga didn’t happen, I had a mostly sleepless night on Wednesday night thinking about it, had to deal with the plumbers and restoration company on Thursday morning. We are SO LUCKY that it was contained to our crawl space and did not get into the finished part of our basement. The restoration company said we’d be better off cleaning it ourselves vs. making an insurance claim because it really is only cleaning up / disinfecting the cement and taking out a few pieces of drywall. My amazing husband spent most of yesterday getting it all cleaned up. It was pretty gross, so I give him huge huge props for that but ya that one thing happening made this entire week very very shitty (literally!)

A podcast episode I loved was The Lazy Genius Cleans the Kitchen. I just started listening to this podcast and I really like that the episodes are only 20 or so minutes long. I find my podcast tastes have really changed over time. For awhile I was into more true crime, investigative podcasts then for awhile I was really into political podcasts, now I find I gravitate towards podcasts that are really casual (prefer no ads for sure!) and I love ones that are just two people talking. I also like listening to ones about parenting, home life, cosyness etc. I guess it’s that nesting stage of life I’m in 🙂

For my workouts, I completed I am teaching bootcamp twice a week from 6:15 – 7am so I taught that on both Tuesday and Thursday! I will share some of the bootcamp workouts we do in a future blog post. I obviously modify A LOT, and spend a lot of time just walking around the class correcting form etc. I get most of my inspiration for workouts from Fitness Blender and Peanut Butter Runner. Some people think it’s strange I started teaching a bootcamp class at 32 weeks pregnant (and will be 37 weeks when it’s done!) but it was a good opportunity I didn’t want to pass up as I’d like to take on teaching more classes while on maternity leave. I wasn’t able to make it to yoga at all this week, so that is all I did for workouts. I also went for a walk with my friend one day.

The best money I spent was on, I actually can’t think of anything in particular I spent money on this week that was ‘well spent’. Ha. I bought coffee out a few times. I buy coffee out wayyy more these days because I only have one cup a day and it feels like a waste to make it at home sometimes.

My plans this weekend include tomorrow morning I am going to go to yoga at 10am and then I’m planning on spending tomorrow getting our office organized (there are currently books ALL over the floor as we just got a book shelf a couple weeks ago) and washing and putting away ALL the baby laundry. Eric is on night shift so will be sleeping and I have a long queue of podcasts to catch up on while doing this.  Friday night I’m actually signed up to do a 5km charity walk with my friend Janine, but right now it’s calling for rain and I *might* bail based on weather. Sunday some lovely blog friends are hosting a virtual baby shower for me through Google Hangouts in the afternoon, and other than that I just plan to lay low and rest/relax around the house. Might borrow a tip from my friend Lisa and make it a ‘shouldless day’ as the following weekend is Eric’s weekend off / Thanksgiving so I know it will be a busy one.

I don’t usually like to dwell on the negative… but tell me the low of your week to make me feel better about my literal shitty week 😉 Also, what are your plans for this weekend?
