The Monday Meeting: Senioritis

Senioritis – used to describe the decreased motivation toward studies displayed by students who are nearing the end of their high school, university or grad school career.

Symptoms include:

  • Chronic Procrastination (Definitely have that, today caps off four days off of work/school for me and yet I still have a million things to do today as I was a complete bump on a log all weekend!)
  • Lack of Motivation (Oh ya, it’s nearly impossible for me to find the motivation to do ANYTHING school related)
  • Drop in Academic Performance (Quite possible, I haven’t gotten an assignment or test back for awhile, though. I have, however, been skipping classes more than ever before!)

I don’t think it’s any secret that I have been not-so-happy about school this semester. And now, with a mere two weeks left, one week of classes and one week of exams, I find myself draining even more. I don’t want to do anything.

No, I don’t want to work on the 1,500 word paper that is due next week. No, I don’t want to prepare for my major presentation on Thursday. No, I don’t want to study for my last final exam next Monday.

No.

It’s a very strange and annoying thing that I’m going through right now. I have this huge list of tasks that I know I have to do, but I just don’t want to. I feel a little like a five-year-old.

It’s interesting that Senioritis is not just a stupid term that young people throw around. It’s an actual problem. Google it and you’ll come up with pages of results talking about what it is and how to combat it. I, personally, never experienced it in High School (that I can remember). I think it’s because the end of high school was a really exciting experience for me. I had prom and graduation to look forward to and think about and the next fall I’d be going back to school.

I’ve been a total scatter-brain lately, forgetting things and losing things, wanting to sleep all the time, being SO LAZY, which is not like me at all.

I just need to get through two more weeks. Remember when I was chanting four weeks? I can do this!

Did you ever get Senioritis? How did you combat it?

She’s Alive!!

I’m currently stealing a very unstable, wireless Internet connection from a neighbour so this needs to be fast and sweet. Bullets it is.

  • I’m all moved into my new place – Eric is here too!
  • My Dad and brother left this morning for home after helping us move all weekend. Seriously, all we did for 3 days was move.
  • I haven’t ran since Thursday and I haven’t worked out since Friday. I feel gross but I’m having trouble finding the will to workout right now. Not sure why. I need to get out there soon, hopefully tonight.
  • I’m so happy Eric is here.
  • Two of my favourite bloggers are taking a break from blogging. This makes me incredibly sad.
  • I marked all as read yesterday morning when I opened my google reader and will probably have to do the same this morning, I’m sorry! I’ll catch up soon.
  • I miss you guys.
  • I have a final exam in six hours that I haven’t even started studying for.

And, on that last note, I’m out of here. Posting will be sporadic this week at best but I’m *supposed* to have my internet hooked up tomorrow sometime (we all know how that goes) so hopefully I’ll be back to regularly blogging soon. If not, I’ll see y’all next week. I’m preparing a vlog of my new apartment; be excited.

In the meantime, tell me what’s new with you!?!

XO

Flashback Friday: Second year of college

Before I get into this flashback Friday post I want to tell you about my horrible day yesterday.

I ran over a cat.

Me and my friend Danielle were driving to her house when she shouted “That cat’s gonna get hit” as it darted in front of two cars, across the boulevard and right in front of my car.

Clerplunk.

It was the worst sound ever. I was SO upset. I pulled off the road and Danielle looked at the vehicle and didn’t see any fur or blood or anything and we drove back to look at it and couldn’t find it. A guy that was standing outside said he thought he knew what cat I was talking about and apparently it’s a stray. NOT that hitting a stray makes it OK but at least I know some little girl isn’t out looking for her kitty. Anyways, the whole thing really shook me up and kind of ruined the rest of the day for me.

OK, onto today’s post.

*******************************

See a recap of my first year of college here.

So despite my whiny, feel-sorry-for-myself post the other day, not all of my college years were as terrible as the last few weeks have been. In fact, I would say my second year of college was the most fun I’ve ever had.

By this point, I was comfortable with the college experience and felt more “in my zone”. I also had a lot of friends in Grande Prairie at this point so I was never lacking someone to hang out with.

If I remember correctly my second year of college started out with a bang, with ten nights or so of drinking in a row! Hey, I had to catch up with everyone after being gone for four months ;)

I absolutely loved my courses second year, too. They were challenging, interesting and fun. Some of the classes I can remember off the top of my head were, pop culture, drama, history, native studies, political science, logic and a few others. All really fun classes that I actually enjoyed going to.

I worked part-time at the restaurant again and became really close with a few of the girls there and we went out quite often.

Another thing that was different this year was that Eric moved to Dawson Creek, B.C., which was only 1.5 hours from GP not 2.5 hours like FSJ. Being that extra hour closer made a world of difference! I could still go out with my friends on the weekends and go visit Eric for only one night or for the day. We used to have a lot of fun visiting each other on the weekends that year.

And finally, January 2008, which was the beginning of my second semester of my second year was when I started losing weight. Between January and May 2008 I lost about 25 pounds just by starting to work out regularly and by counting calories and actually learning about portion sizes. Goodbye, Freshmen 15! You can read more about my weight loss here.

Our staff Christmas party (still consider this one of the most fun nights of my life!) Also, while I was looking through this folder on my computer for pictures to share I came across some of the DELICIOUS food we had that night so I thought I’d share that too:

My going away party at the end of the year (another night that is right up there with one of the most fun nights of my life!):

We started the night with green apple martini’s…

Two very hungover girls the next morning! This was my last morning ever in Grande Prairie – I left town with my vehicle full a few hours later :(

Reminiscing this made me really, really miss my second year of college. It was such a blast and I made some amazing friends. There were countless nights spent drinking wine and having girl talk, going to the bar or just hanging out and watching movies. SO fun!

Which year of college was your favourite? Why? And tell me about your second year of college!

PS: The star of all those photos is my good friend Jen!
