Why I hated Twilight

I ADORED the Harry Potter series. I have read the entire thing at least three times and when I think about the fact that there will never be another book it makes me really sad, I’m very excited for the movies though. I was told that Twilight was like Harry Potter, so I thought I’d give it a try. I hated it.

I might get some flak for this, but I’m going to put it out there anyways. Eric and I went to Walmart the other day and on the front door was a notice that said, “We will be open until midnight on March __ for the release of the Twilight DVD.”

It reminded me just how much I DESPISED that movie and book.

I know there are hordes of Twilight lovers out there, but I honestly could not stand that book. I couldn’t even get through the first 100 pages, it was that terrible.

Here’s my reasons.

-I saw the movie before reading the book. I know, big mistake, but Eric wanted to see it (not kidding). I’m not a big fan of love movies as it is but I thought the movie was terrible. I hated the actors they chose to play the characters. I thought Bella was a terrible actress and Edward? GAG ME. Seriously, what’s with his dark, bushy eyebrows? There way to dark for his pale face!

-I found the writing to be incredibly immature, the sentences were choppy and there was almost too much description of silly things.

-The plot. Once again I only saw the movie, but this whole idea of “vegetarian vampires” seems ridiculous to me. And their relationship happened ridiculously fast for a pair of high school kids.

Overall I found the movie incredibly boring, and the main male characters, both Edward and the enemy guy disgusted me. Edward was too pale and his eyes were not sexy they were creepy.

I’ve heard many girls say they looovvvee Edward. I just can’t see it. If you want to read a book with a male character that you can really fall in love with, read this.

OK, OK, I’m ready for you guy’s to attack me now! Maybe I should have given the book a chance past the first 100 pages but I just could not continue reading, I felt too bored and annoyed by the characters. Seeing the movie first may have been a mistake because I had the characters set in my head.

Oh, and by the way, Eric liked the movie and he even bought the second Twilight book and covered it with white paper so people wouldn’t be able to tell what he’s reading! He still hasn’t finished it though and he bought it about two months ago. He’s a slow reader.

Are you a Twilight lover or hater? Why? Will you be lining up at Walmart at midnight when the DVD is released?

PS: I’m waiting to hear back from an internship position that I want REALLY bad, so even if you hate me after this post please cross your fingers, knock on wood, throw salt over your shoulder and send good thoughts my way! Thanks! :-)

Movie Review: Confessions of a Shopaholic

Last night I went to se Confessions of a Shopaholic with my aunt and mom. I was really excited about this movie, I’ve read all of the books twice and LOVED them. I thought they were hilarious and couldn’t put them down. I think Sophie Kinsella (or Madeline Wickham) or whatever her name is, is one funny lady.

Spoiler Alert: In my opinion, the movie absolutely butchered the book. It’s been a couple years since I read it but I remember laughing out loud several times during the book and I didn’t find the movie all that funny. As much as I like Isla Fisher I didn’t buy her as Becky Bloomwood, first of all, she wasn’t British. I think the fact that the book took place in London is an important part the movie left out. Maybe they were trying to merge it with the Shopaholic takes Manhattan book or something. I don’t know, but it did not work out very well.
Also, what is with Luke being the editor of the magazine? It’s been a few years since I read the book, so correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t Becky already work for the finance magazine and Luke already owned Brandon Communications when they met? Not that those are extremely important details but I just don’t see why they felt the need to change them.
Finally, I wouldn’t say I’m the most fashion-minded person in the world, but for the most part the movie’s wardrobe sucked. I found most of it tacky and not stylish at all, maybe that was the point, I don’t know. All I know for sure is that Hollywood has, once again, ruined an amazing book by making it into a movie. I beg of you, read the books BEFORE you see the movie, they are really, really good books. As for the movie, I absolutely would not recommend it to anyone especially other book fans!

Have you guy’s seen it? What do you think? If you disagree with me please let me know, I’d love to hear your POV too!

Pets

I hope everyone had a fabulous Christmas! I can’t believe it’s here and gone already! I’m taking a hiatus from my ‘lifestyle’ blog tonight after going to see Marley & Me with my family today.

As many of you know, I only recently became a pet-owner myself. I love lil Webby so much. I had pets when I was a kid, but since I lived at home I wasn’t really the one caring for them, it was my parents. Now that I (and Eric) are the sole caregivers for lil Webby, I feel much more attached to him then I ever have any other pet.

I haven’t read the book ‘Marley & Me’ but my mom said it was just like the movie. Basically the movie told the story of John Grogan and his wife Jenny who bought a labrador puppy soon after they were married. Marley is your typical lab and he does all kinds of hilarious things like chewing the furniture, getting kicked out of obedience school and running after other dogs.

What’s especially funny for my family is that my mom has a labrador named Murphy, who looks just like Marley. Murphy has been known to chew and eat everything in sight as well, he can also be quite the challenge to walk sometimes considering he weighs over 100 pounds.

My mom’s pup, Murphy, he’s just about two years old. Doesn’t he look like Marley?

Spoiler Alert: At the end of the movie, Marley has grown quite old and he has to be put down. It was the saddest movie I have seen in a long, long time. I was full-out, tears running down my face, bawling. I wasn’t the only one, a lot of people left the theatre with puffy eyes and red noses. I think almost everyone has had a dear pet die at one point or another in their life.

It got me thinking about how pets are so much more than just animals. They become like a family member. I never pictured myself as a “pet-owner”, one of those people who becomes obsessed with their pet, but after having Webster for only a few short months I already cannot imagine life without him! Especially life in Kamloops, he is such good company for Eric and I and he is so funny and cute! I just love him!

Isn’t he freaking adorable??

I recommend Marley & Me (the movie) to everyone, but make sure you bring some tissues, it’s a tear-jerker! I’m adding the book to my growing list of books that I want to read, it’s pretty much a neverending list.

Have you seen the movie or read the book? Did you like it? Tell me about your pets??
