Moments

Life is in this weird place right now where I feel like one foot is in one life and the other foot is in a different life. Our house is half packed and a freaking mess, I’m torn between trying to appreciate & savour the last 7-8ish nights in our first home to just wanting to be settled and fully moved into our new home.

I’m saying goodbye to friends here, and feeling extremely sad, while also making plans and reconnecting with old friends and family and making summer plans.

Life just feels weird right now. There is no other way to put it.

Anyways, in light of that, here is a quick ‘moments’ post with a few photos/moments from the last few days.

A stunning early morning walk the other day. I am so so so going to miss our favourite trails and these views.

Remember when my mom and I planted tulip bulbs in the fall? Look at what the flower bed has turned into now! So amazing and looking at it makes me so so so happy. I’ve been clipping bouquets for everyone!

I finally met sweet baby P the other day! He’s perfection. Can’t believe BFF Jen has two babies now! Weren’t we just dancing until 2am after a night of waitressing yesterday?

It was around October 2008 when Eric moved down here to join me for the first time and we were sitting down at Riverside Park and he looked across the river and said “we should climb that hill”.

7.5 years later we finally did! Last weekend my brother, Eric, Chloe and I hiked to the top of Mount Paul in Kamloops. It was a brutal hike. Super steep. But the view was absolutely incredible. Definitely a big tick on the Kamloops Bucket List!

Yesterday I was “arrested” for the Jail and Bail fundraiser. THANK YOU to everyone who donated to bail me out! I managed to raise $1,350 thanks to all your help!

And that’s it! Tonight I’m flying back up to Fort St. John for a meeting tomorrow morning. Then on the weekend we are packing, packing, packing and Saturday night is my going away party with my running friends, which I’m so excited for! Next week is more packing and loading up the u-haul, getting the house cleaned and doing the walk-through with our new tenants. Either Friday the 29 or Saturday the 30 we’ll be hitting the road for the 1,000 km / 600 mile drive to Fort St. John.

Here we go!

What are some moments from your life lately?

How I Clean

Cleaning cartoon

This might seem like a lame post topic, but I’ve been thinking lately about how I have two different cleaning styles. A tidy-up, which is usually done during the week nights and a deep clean, which I try to do on the weekends but honestly haven’t done for several weeks now. Keeping the house clean falls kind of low on my list of priorities in the summer…

The tidy-up includes the following:

  • Doing all the dishes and wiping the counters in the kitchen
  • Picking up all Chloe’s toys in the living room
  • Vacuuming the main floor of our house (living room and kitchen)
  • Straightening shoes in our entry way
  • Quickly lysol wiping surfaces in the bathroom (and cleaning the toilet of course)
  • Taking out the garbage and recycling

The deep clean includes:

  • Wiping down almost all surfaces in the house (kitchen table, wine cabinet, coffee table, shelving etc.)
  • Vacuuming every room in the house
  • Mopping the floors
  • Using the steam cleaner (one of the most versatile cleaning tools ever) on our carpeted stairs
  • Taking everything off the bathroom counter and wiping it down
  • Taking everything out of the shower/tub and scrubbing it
  • Vacuuming the couch
  • Wiping down the walls
  • Washing and putting away all laundry
  • Pulling the bed out and cleaning underneath of it

And my most used cleaning supplies:

  • Lysol wipes
  • Our Dyson vacuum (seriously still SO obsessed with this thing)
  • After shower spray
Now that I think about it, I actually tend to do a random mish-mash of the deep cleaning stuff during the week too but our house really feels the cleanest to me when I get a chance to do a full deep clean in one day. I can actually imagine the amazing, exhausted feeling I have after I’ve spent three hours doing intense cleaning and the whole house just sparkles. Call me crazy, but I love that! It’s just making the time to do it that’s been a problem lately!

I am constantly shocked at the kind of dirt and grime that can get into the most random places in our house! Since Kamloops has such a dry and dusty climate our home can get very, very dusty, especially in the summer, so regularly wiping everything down and vacuuming as much as possible helps. Plus with two pets we have to stay on top of the vacuuming and carpet cleaning!

So what does a tidy up and a deep clean look like for you? How often do you deep clean? And what are your most used cleaning supplies?

If this blog post doesn’t qualify me as a real, honest-to-goodness adult I don’t know what does…

Random Ramblings

Aka, a post where I talk about cleaning for 400 words and don’t share a single photo…

Ok, I know I promised a race report but I was on my hands and knees scrubbing our kitchen floor until 8:30 pm tonight because I pulled out our stove and fridge to clean behind them. So a random rambling post it is!

So in my life I kind of classify my weekends as “productive” time and my weeknights as “relaxing” time. Most week nights I either have running, yoga or social plans so I don’t get home until 6:30 – 7 pm. So the 2.5 – 3 hours I have at home before bed is used for eating dinner, reading, watching TV and general “relaxation” activities. However this past weekend I really didn’t feel all that great and spent a ton of time laying around so wasn’t as productive as I usually like to be on the weekends (I try to clean the house and do laundry every weekend).

Couple that with the fact that I have been feeling a really strong urge to deep clean and I found myself pulling out our stove and fridge last night and vacuuming and scrubbing behind them. This is disgusting, but I hadn’t done that in about 1.5 years, and it was nasty behind there! If you are someone who regularly does that cleaning task I bow down to you and if you are like me and don’t think to do that kind of stuff I highly suggest you do. The kitchen doesn’t look any cleaner but it sure as heck feels cleaner!

Anyways, normally I would balk at doing that kind of thing on a weeknight but I’m leaving on Saturday morning for a week long work trip and then I have six busy weekends in a row and then we leave for Ireland. I know! This spring has completely gotten away from me. So while I’m not able to spend an entire day doing a deep spring clean of our house I can fit in little tasks here and there like the fridge and stove. I also did my yearly clean out of my closets and drawers last weekend and have a trunk full of clothes to donate.

Even though my deep cleaning tonight wasn’t what I would normally classify as relaxing I just feel more relaxed having done that. Nothing is more relaxing to me than a clean house, and like I said it feels cleaner even if it doesn’t necessarily look cleaner.

How was this for a random rambling post. Yeesh. Happy Tuesday?

How often do you deep clean? Have you cleaned behind/underneath your fridge and stove lately?
