The high of my week was hitting 24 weeks, which is the first viability milestone of pregnancy! Obviously I will continue to hope for an uneventful pregnancy where Baby H cooks for the remaining 16 weeks, but it’s always good to know that if something crazy happened the chances of baby surviving are higher than ever, and only getting higher with each passing day.

24 week bump!

The low of my week was realizing that I’m probably going to have to slow down a bit with my workouts. Since week 16 I’ve been doing Fitness Blender HIIT / Strength workouts 3x per week and feeling amazing. However, on Monday and Tuesday of last week while doing my workout I noticed this pressure / uncomfortable feeling in my lower belly. I also noticed it later in the day when taking Chloe for a brisk walk. I’m going to mention it to my doctor at my next appointment and see what they say, but for now I’m taking it as a sign that I need to ease off a bit. I did do a Fitness Blender workout that was strictly strength last night and felt fine, so maybe it’s just the higher intensity stuff I’ll have to cut (even though I’ve been doing low impact modifications). I also felt fine when I swam this week, so may have to add in swimming an extra day a week instead.

A podcast episode I loved was all the old Girl Next Door episodes I’m binge listening to are amazing. They are just SO fun to listen to and have me laughing out loud. The latest Young House Love Has a Podcast episode is also laugh-out-loud hilarious! I love when they slow their voice speed down to show their listeners what ‘drunk’ John and Sherry would sound like!

For my workouts, I completed Fitness Blender on Monday (Total Body Burnout) and Tuesday (Fat Burning HIIT Cardio with no equipment) mornings, on Wednesday morning I went swimming for 30 minutes before work, on Thursday I did another Fitness Blender workout (Challenging Dynamic Superset Workout) after work. I’ve also hit my 10,000+ steps every day this week. As of today I am on my way down to Scotch Creek to spend 5 days at my moms lake home, so I plan to just take lots of walks and possibly swim laps in the outdoor pool for the next week and give my body a break. I really hope to continue doing some sort of strength training throughout the remainder of the 2nd trimester and into the 3rd, just not sure what that will look like yet!

The best money I spent was on the chalk paint to re-paint a dresser and nightstand we’ll be using in the nursery. I really really wish I had taken before photos, but sadly I did not. This dresser used to be a teal green-blue colour and the nightstand was a typical dark brown. My mom helped me sand them down and paint them and then we also spray-painted the handles grey. The 2 small cans of chalk paint, spray paint for the handles and sandpaper came to $75. Way less money than I would have spent buying a new dresser and nightstand! Plus I have enough chalk paint left over to easily refinish another piece of furniture, that chalk paint sure goes a long ways!

My plans this weekend include being in vacation mode! I will be in Scotch Creek, where it is currently around 35 C (95 F). I plan to sleep in every morning I’m there, go for a walk before it gets too hot out and then spend lots of time by the pool and/or lake reading my book. I also want to bike to the local Farmer’s Market on Sunday as the Farmer’s Markets down south are sooo amazing with all the fresh fruits and veggies. Even though I’m definitely not looking forward to the 12 hour drive to get there, I am very much looking forward to spending 5.5 days down there relaxing, hanging out with family and visiting some friends in the area!

What are your plans for this weekend? What did you do for workouts last week?

Weekend Recap

I had a great weekend even though it of course sucked Eric was working. However, at least he’s on day shift right now so we ate dinner together and watched TV together each evening which was really nice.

Friday night… I was in the mood to cook and bake! I had a bit of a stressful week at work and I do find cooking and baking to be sooo relaxing and a nice way to decompress after a long day. I BBQ’ed chicken and potatoes, made a salad with lettuce from my garden and made this delicious Cherry Galette recipe (which I’m so glad Meghan shared in my blog comments last week!)

Other than pitting the cherries, which took forever, this recipe was so easy and delicious! I’m going to make another one this week as I picked a whole bunch of Saskatoon berries over the weekend.

Saturday morning… I slept in until about 8:30 and then got up and had breakfast and coffee while reading my book. Then at 10am I headed to yoga. It was an amazing flow-y yoga class, but man did I use my blocks a lot. This belly is really starting to get in the way! After yoga I picked up my mom to head to the Farmer’s Market where I got some fresh fruit and beets. So much yum!

We then went for lunch and after lunch I headed home to get productive. I swept and sprayed down our driveway, tidied up the house, started the laundry and started making dinner. When Eric got home we hung out on the couch together and watched two episodes of Big Brother.

Sunday… another sleep-in until 8. Oh how I love weekends! Then I had a delicious breakfast with coffee and my book.

After breakfast I took Chloe for a 45 minute walk and then met up with my aunt to pick some saskatoons. Later my mom and brother came over to help me paint the dresser and nightstand for the nursery.

I absolutely love how it turned out! We painted them with the rustoleum chalked paint in chiffon cream. They are much creamier in colour than they look in the picture. The nighstand was a dark brown before and the dresser was a teal colour. I was so impressed by how well the chalk paint covered them both!

After painting we went out for lunch and then I spent some time laying on the couch reading my book and resting. Later I met up with my aunt to pick more saskatoon berries – they grow wild up here and there were a bunch of bushes near our house. I can’t wait to make a galette with them!

Sunday evening I got dinner ready for when Eric got home at 7:30pm and then we ate together on the couch while watching the new Game of Thrones episode. I went straight to bed after that as I had to get up and get to work early yesterday, which is why this weekend recap blog post is a day late.

And that was my weekend! Obviously if Eric hadn’t been working it would have been even better, but at least we got to spend our evenings together since he’s home at night.

How was your weekend? What did you get up to?

Weekend at Scotch Creek

As mentioned in our four year anniversary post Eric and I spent our anniversary apart for the first time since I was in Scotch Creek for the weekend visiting my mom at her new summer place. I have been here before but not since April and not overnight. It was a really awesome and relaxing two days, which was exactly what I needed.

This view comprised A LOT of my weekend. It was raining on and off all weekend, and poured all of Saturday morning, so I spent a lot of time reading my book and drinking coffee. After sleeping in until 9am both days that is!

My mom and I had a nice long FaceTime chat with my brother in Germany.

Finally when the rain let up we jumped on our bikes and biked to the grocery store. One of my favourite things about Scotch Creek is that we didn’t drive once in two days, we biked everywhere!

This was the bike I rode when we went for groceries! It was harder to ride than I thought it would be.

On Saturday afternoon my mom and I rode all around the complex she lives in. I rode a normal 2-wheeler bike at this time.

Saturday evening we had an amazing dinner of BBQ’ed steak and shrimp and watched the Highway of Tears documentary on Netflix. A very important documentary every Canadian should watch!

Sunday morning <3

Later in the morning my mom and I went on a walk around the complex on a nice 2km walking trail.

After our walk we made an amazing brunch that you will see in my Whole30 recap and then biked to the Scotch Creek Farmer’s Market!

I spent the rest of Sunday afternoon in the hammock chair outside. I even stayed in it through some light rain because I was sooo comfy and relaxed!

It was soooo nice. After a couple of hours in the hammock I decided to take a bath and then started watching Gilmore Girls. Four episodes later and here I am on the couch at 9pm writing this blog post 🙂

And that was my weekend! Tomorrow we have to leave at the ungodly hour of 6am as I have an appointment in Kelowna before my 1pm flight home. It was so nice to spend time with my mom and also to spend an entire weekend sleeping late, reading and watching TV. It was exactly what the doctor ordered and I feel relaxed, refreshed and ready to tackle a busy rest of the summer!

How was your weekend? When was the last time you had a really relaxing and refreshing weekend?
