Coffee Date

Should we sit down and have coffee & a donut today?

I am actually not enjoying this right now, this is a photo from my vacation last week when I met my friend Tara for a coffee and donut at PDK Cafe in downtown Kamloops. We used to run together and now we eat donuts together ๐Ÿ˜‰

Anyways, as I write this blog post I am drinking a cup of coffee and also eating a sweet potato bowl. Same, same right?

If we were having coffee this morning…ย I would probably talk about how it feels like summer is absolutely flying by. How is it already August 10? Eric’s last week off work for the summer is August 21 – 27 and we’re going camping and fishing with his family. I’m looking forward to having one last summer hurrah.

If we were having coffee this morning…ย you might ask me when I plan to go on maternity leave (I swear I get asked that once a day right now) and I would tell you that I’m hoping to work until Friday, November 3. My due date is November 13, so I think this is totally doable. And yes I am planning on taking the full year off – so grateful to have that option in Canada!

If we were having coffee this morning…ย I might mention that I really miss spending the majority of my day laying by the pool and reading my book, which was basically what I did for the majority of the time I was down south last week.

If we were having coffee this morning…ย I would likely complain about how HOT our house gets during the day! The front of the house faces directly east and the back faces directly west so we get the full morning sun on the front and the full afternoon/evening sun on the house in the back. When I got home from work yesterday it was 24 C in our house! In the summer I like to keep it closer to 18 C. So I’m trying to figure out where to strategically place fans and which windows to open and close when to see if I can keep it cooler in here during the day.

If we were having coffee this morning…ย I would tell you that life feels kind of boring lately. We haven’t been able to enjoy all the summer adventures we usually do because of Eric’s work schedule and that has bummed me out a few times this summer. However, I know this is just a phase of life we’re in now and it too shall pass. Plus for the most part our life is ah-ma-zing right now and I honestly wouldn’t change a thing.

If we were having coffee this morning…ย I might remind you that four years ago to the day, I was doing this. Scrambling over a mountain in Squamish for my first (and so far only) 50km ultra marathon! I still cannot believe I did a 50km race. That honestly feels like a different life sometimes.

What would you tell me if we were having coffee this morning?ย

It might be boring now but just wait! I cant believe you are so close to your due date!! I bet it is getting exciting

It is lucky you get to take a year off. I have to say, it is so hard to be a working mom. There were so many days I just wanted to drop everything to be with E…and I work from home, so it wasn’t like I was missing everything. I guess it was hard to find the right balance when she was so young.

And you are right, this summer flew. I dont feel like I did many adventurous things this summer or sat by the pool enough.

  2. I can’t believe how fast the summer is going either. I feel this way every year but every year the time seems to go by even faster. I don’t feel that way in like Jan/Feb, though! Wish I did because that is my least favorite time of year!

If we were having coffee I would ask you if you are doing any birthing classes before baby H arrives? I’d also ask how you are feeling and ask if I could feel the baby kick (if he or she is active while we are having coffee)! I would never touch a woman’s belly without permission (has that happened to you yet?) but if I get permission I do like to feel the baby kick! Such a cool feeling!

If we were having coffee today, I would also pick your brain about camping as we are going on our first camping trip a week from Friday! We are tent camping so will get the full experience but I am super duper excited for it! There is so much great hiking in the area so we are going to have a blast. Plus the girl we are going with is so much fun and is a veteran camper. I am sure some people think it’s weird for Phil and I to camp with another girl but she gets along super well with both of us. Plus I am open minded to doing things with just one other person after years of being the ‘5th wheel’/not having people to do things like camping with. She’s probably one of our most frequent dinner guests actually and Phil loves it when she comes over because she always bring an awesome assortment of beer.

Your last day of work before maternity leave sounds perfect! I think mine was the same when I was expecting Isla; I believe there was 10 days between my last day and my due date, and she wound up being slightly over. The days off were the best too – I did nothing but go to appointments (medical and pampering) and relax.

If we were having coffee this morning I’d tell you that it feels like summer is just wasting away with all this smoke in the air from the forest fires. It’s hard to get outdoors and enjoy the summer when it smells like a giant campfire out there ๐Ÿ™

If we were having coffee I’d probably ask if you have names picked out for Baby H but totally wouldn’t judge if you didn’t want to share.

If we were having coffee, I’d tell you that I totally remember you doing the Squamish 50 4 years ago! And that when we were in BC last week, we went to Whistler and Squamish was on the road and I thought of you! (I remember seeing the big Squamish Axe Man! ๐Ÿ™‚ )

If we were having coffee, I’d tell you November 3rd is a good day to stop working since it’s my birthday! ๐Ÿ˜‰

If we were having coffee, i’d tell you that I totally feels Summer is already over! Here, it’s already like Fall (15-16 Celsius), and I’m so not ready for Fall yet! I

If we were having coffee, I’d tell you that I have another week of vacation at the end of August, I can’t wait! Probably just staying home and maybe going to Montrรฉal for Labor Day weekend.

  5. +24 – oh my!! I start to get headaches inside if it gets too warm, although I am fine if I am outside and it’s hot. It’s weird. I keep the house at about 18-19 C all year round.

If we were having coffee today I’d tell you how excited I am that Christopher is on holidays in about 45 minutes from now, and then we’ll be headed on a vacay!!

The first time I worked until my due date when I went into labor. The second I worked till about 2 weeks past my due date when I was induced. But I only took 10 weeks off, so I’d imagine with an entire year there isn’t nearly the concern about “wasting” weeks before the baby even arrives.

  7. Canada gets a year of maternity leave? wow that is fantastic. Kelley got 12 weeks, and most people don’t get that much.

Can’t believe you’re 50k was four years ago! that time really flew by

It’s probably not going to be boring for much longer ๐Ÿ˜‰

I definitely feel that summer is flying by and I’d like to slow down time a little bit.. I have yet to spend a day at the pool. Gotta find a pool, I guess ๐Ÿ˜‰
