Random updates + weekend recap

I am taking a break from trip recaps and the other posts I had promised I would write to just do a random update post combined with a bit of a weekend recap from this past weekend.

First, last week Webster gave us a total scare when he escaped outside and was missing for almost 48 hours! In 9 years of having Webster he has never been outside for longer than 30 minutes so to say I was a bit distraught was an understatement.

I put up posters all over town and we even went to one ladies house and coaxed an orange cat out from under her deck that we thought might be him. Low & behold, he popped up on our porch the 2nd morning he’d been missing looking no worse for the wear. We are pretty sure he was nearby the house the whole time and ignoring us calling him. Little bugger.

He’s lucky he’s so darn cute! And even Chloe missed him!

Here is a bump shot for you πŸ™‚ I haven’t talked about the pregnancy outside of our initial announcement post. I always thought I would do weekly updates, but that is likely not going to happen so random updates and bump shots it will be. And I will make sure I at least recap each trimester.

I was 16.5 weeks when I took this photo and I am now just over 17 weeks along. So far the 2nd trimester is 1000x better than the first. I’m getting back to regular workouts and healthy eating and basically feeling normal again, which has been wonderful.

Now for the weekend recap… since Eric works 14 days straight then gets 7 days off he only gets every 3rd weekend off and this past weekend he was home. Yay!

I got off work early on Friday and we went and bought a bunch of plants and veggies at the local garden store and also some new patio furniture for our deck. It was my dad’s birthday so in the evening we went to my aunts for a birthday dinner for him.

Saturday morning I went to an amazing power flow yoga class. It’s when doing stuff like this that I remember I’m pregnant because I definitely had to modify / use props a lot throughout the class and the belly is already starting to get in the way. After yoga I planted my garden. I decided to rent two community garden boxes that are 1.5 km from our house for this year and if it goes well we’ll build raised beds in our backyard next year.

I planted beets, squash, tomatoes, lettuce, green beans, spinach, radishes, cucumbers and zucchini. I hope they do well as there is nothing quite like fresh veggies out of the garden. I was super inspired to try and grow my own food after reading Animal, Vegetable, Miracle last year.

Saturday evening we finished putting together our patio furniture and pergola, I need to take a picture for my next post, I am so in love with our new back deck setup. Β Then we grilled an amazing dinner of steak, shrimp and crab legs.

On Sunday I slept in until about 8:30am and then enjoyed coffee and breakfast on our front porch.

When Eric got up, we loaded up our kayaks and fishing stuff and headed to a lake about an hour from town for the afternoon.

We kayaked, fished and roasted hot dogs and marshmallows over the fire. It was pretty awesome!

Soooo happy that summer is here. I LOVE SUMMER!

Annd there you have it! Our weekend and a few other random updates from the past week πŸ™‚ I was definitely very tired on Monday morning after all of the outside air and sunshine!

How was your weekend? Are you getting beautiful summer weather where you are?Β

So glad that Webster was found! Sounds like you had a great weekend. It’s supposed to rain this coming weekend and it makes me sad as we’ve had gorgeous weather for so long

I am SO glad Webster came back! I would be worried sick, that’s one of my greatest fears! Sounds like an awesome weekend and I LOVE BBQ season!! Thankfully J BBQs year round but I swear it tastes better in the summer. Can’t wait to read about that baby!

  3. Fantastic! Enjoy your summer Amber

OMG, I was so worried about Webster. So glad he got home safe.
Your garden beds are awesome.. I want to start planting stuff again, too, but it’s either pots or I have to build garden beds. hhhmmm.

  5. Your weekend sounds so wonderful! I am glad that you are feeling better and are able to do the things you enjoy! I know some women who felt awful and got sick for their entire pregnancy and I am sooooo glad you are not one of them! Your garden looks great! I hope you have lots of luck because it’s so rewarding to pick things you’ve grown and eat them!!

I am so glad that Webster came back! We were so worried for you and for him! I love the picture of him sleeping next to Chloe! I guess they don’t really hate each other! πŸ˜‰

Can’t wait to see pics of your deck! Having a great outdoor space is so important! I love sitting on our deck and reading. It’s so relaxing!!

WEBSTER. I cannot believe he just took off on a little adventure for 2 days. I would have been OUT OF MY MIND with worry. I am so, so glad he came home safe and sound. I was furiously updating Instagram, waiting for news about him!

Your bump is so cute and I am very glad the second trimester has been smoother sailing for you.

I write a ton of SEO content for pergolas, so seeing the name in this post made me laugh. I know way too much about that patio product than I need to, especially as someone who is not a homeowner. πŸ˜‰

  7. That steak, shrimp and crab leg dinner looks sooooooo good!! I love BBQing crab legs. We are having the most amazing weather here. Every day is more perfect than the one before, I can’t even believe it.

I’m so happy to hear Webster is home safe and sound πŸ™‚ I can’t imagine how stressful that was for you guys.

There is nothing like growing your own food. We’re growing a couple things this year, but just in pots. I’m excited for when they start showing signs of growth.

Love the baby bump! Keep us posted on how the pregnancy is going πŸ™‚

Relieved that Webster returned. He probably had awesome adventures chasing bugs and sleeping under the deck or something while you were all worried sick – if they weren’t so adorable 😑
It is currently winter where I am, but it’s not like your winter since we don’t get snow, I’ve got to drive for about 4 hours and into the mountains to find snow! It is cold and sunny though, so it’s perfect for getting outside and then coming home to a mulled wine or hot chocolate.

  9. […] I planted my first ever veggie garden (full recap on that coming!) and Webster went missing for a very…. […]
