Weekend Recap

I am typing this blog post on Monday night from our brand new couch! The words moving, driving and Ikea basically sum up our weekend. When we moved from Kamloops we sold a whole bunch of our furniture since most of it was used or hand-me-downs and didn’t really have a cohesive look. As it was getting closer to the date when we would be moving into our own place we knew we needed a bunch of furniture, the most important being a couch. I spent hours researching online and Eric did a bunch of price checking and after all that we decided our best bet for the look we were going for and the money we had to spend was Ikea.

The closest Ikea is in Edmonton, Alberta. 672 km (417 miles) one way.

Oh, and we decided to do the trip in one day. Crazy? Yes. But we really wanted Sunday at home to organize and get ready for the week.

Which led to this on Saturday morning…

That time says 3:54 in case you can’t see it 🙂

Epic road trip! It was actually really fun as crazy as that might sound!

A new TV storage combination, coffee table, couch, desk and a whole bunch of other small miscellaneous items later and our truck was FULL. Full.

And then we turned around and drove all the way home. We pulled into the driveway at 9:00pm, a full 17 hours after we left!

Crazy but it was also kind of fun. The last couple of months have been really insane for us and it was actually kind of nice to spend so much time together and just talk to each other, listen to music and hang out. By the end we were both ready to get OUT of the truck but overall it really wasn’t that bad.

On Sunday we just did stuff around the house ALL day. I organized the garage, Eric finished putting together our ikea furniture and we got our living room mostly set-up. Tonight I’m really feeling settled in and relaxed in our new home and it feels good. When I recently reflected on the last 4 months it’s a little bit unbelievable all the change and upheaval our lives have been through. Hopefully now we will truly be able to settle into our new routine and new life.

How was your weekend?

  1. Dang that is the LONGEST DAY! I am glad that you guys had fun, though, and I am sure it was grea to spend so much time together after the crazy couple of months you have had. I hate driving so so so so so so so much, so that kind of day is kind of like my own personal hell! But I am just not a good car traveler.

I love all the pieces you bought! I am glad that you have everything assembled and can start to settle into your place! This has been such an extended period of transition for you guys so I am glad you are finally in a place where you can settle in!

My weekend was really awesome! We went on a double date on Friday, my nephew spent the day with us on Saturday afternoon/evening, and on Sunday I was outside most of the day doing things like taking a walk, reading, and working in my garden.

Is it light in that 3 a.m. photo? I forget that you are so much farther north than we are! It looks like you had a great weekend, even if it was spent largely in the car. I am driving up to Oregon in a few days and then back down to Yosemite, which is about 500 miles up and 800 miles down, but I am doing it in about 7 days! However, I don’t mind being in the car. I get an audio book and a big cup of coffee and I am all good. I am actually going to do what you did and leave around 3 in the morning, if not earlier.

Oh my gosh, what a day! Kudos for doing all that traveling for IKEA. We have two around me: one is about 5 minutes away and the other is about an hour. I’m not sure if I could have driven nearly 8 hours for one! Ha.

But I love your new living room!! It seems like it was well worth the drive. 🙂

That is SO crazy that you drove all that way!! It looks so nice though!

I didn’t realize you went to the one in Edmonton- that’s crazy it’s the closest one and that you did it all in one day! Your new place looks like it’s coming together well 🙂

  6. Kelly says:

Wait does that say 6 hours and 30 minutes?! I thought you said 4.5 and I already thought you were crazy!!! I’m glad you got so much stuff though and that you starting to feel more settled!

Love the look of the living room; fabulous! And kudos to you not only purchasing it but also putting it all away within one weekend. That is epic.

Weekend was good; first full one with the kiddos so I was tired/ragged by the end of it but overall we had a great time, lots of fun and a pleasant mix of social activities + relaxing. I just wish there were more hours in the day please and thank you.

Hope you are feeling more settled!

  8. […] was the travel to ikea day and above are ALL the snacks I packed. I only ate about 1/2 of everything […]

  9. That is insane! a 17 hour round trip in one day? ugh. you’d have to start that at 4 am so the first drive is half over before you wake up. My limit on day trips is about 3 hours each way, but 45 minutes or less is preferred. Good on ya, y’all got some cool stuff!

  10. Oh wow, that is definitely an epic road trip, and a long day, but I can totally see how it would be fun and also relaxing 🙂 Christopher and I love driving and talking, making life plans, etc.. I absolutely LOVE the TV stand set up – it looks awesome!!!!

  11. It looks so great in there and seriously what a memorable trip. That will be one of those stories that in fifteen years you get to turn to Eric and say “remember that time we….” 🙂 Glad you guys are settling in, but yes, so many changes in a short amount of time!
