Today is my 25th birthday.
My birthday kind of snuck up on me this year. We had such a busy summer that all of a sudden it was kind of here. I had a moment of panic last week thinking that for 25, being kind of a ‘monumental’ age, I should really do something big and special and what not. But I didn’t really have the energy to plan much. Last week my friend Katie took me out for an early birthday lunch, today Jen is taking me out for my actual birthday lunch, Eric and I visited our local winery yesterday afternoon for a picnic and some quality time together and tonight my mom is cooking me dinner. Nothing too terribly big or exciting. But I definitely feel pretty darn loved. And it’s the small things in life that really make the difference, right?
When I was 24 I…
Spent Christmas Day in Kamloops with Eric and his parents. We hosted Christmas (albeit a small one) for the first time.
Had a girls shopping weekend to Vancouver and Bellingham (main goal was to get bridesmaid dresses for Jen’s wedding but A LOT of shopping happened).
Ran 7 races! Staring with a 21 km trail race in March and ending with an 18 km trail race the week before my birthday.
Went to Vancouver for a quick, whirlwind trip to run Seek the Peak 16 km, which also included my first time up the Grouse Grind (not recommended after 18 km of running!)
Did more Vancouver running, saw Taylor Swift in concert and watched my beautiful friend Katie get married. All in one weekend!
Celebrated one year of marriage. Went for a spontaneous one night camping trip to celeebrate.
Attended Jen’s bridal shower and co-hosted her bachelorette!
Had family in town for three weeks in July, so spent a lot of time with them.
Spent a week visiting Pemberton and Whistler. Hiked to Garibaldi Lake.
Ran the Squamish 50km and became an ultra marathoner! Biggest running accomplishment of my life thus far.
Ran in a sports bra for the first time ever.
Wrapped up my trail running season with an 18 km race in my favourite park with my trail running family by my side.
Started back at Crossfit.
So to sum it all up; three big trips including one international one, lots and lots of running, races and all around being active (and most of the running and races I did were with friends!), two awesome concerts and many many days and nights with amazing friends. Not a bad 25th year!
It’s been a really unbelievable year. A bit of bad. A lot of good. I had a lot of fun this year and especially this past summer. I have high hopes for this next year too. We are currently saving money for another big trip in the spring and our lives have the potential for some big changes when Eric finishes school and starts looking for work next year. You just never know what can happen and a lot can change in a year.
So here’s to today. The present moment! And to 25. It feels pretty good to have a lot of possibilities ahead of us!
