Vancouver Half-Marathon Training: Week 6
What a week last week was for me! I knew I was going on a girls shopping trip last weekend so I tried to workout as much as possible during the week since I knew that I wouldn’t get many workouts in – if any – over the weekend. I actually ended up running five days in a row but since I alternated trail running and road running each day it didn’t bother me at all the way running that many days in a row normally would.

Monday – 5-mile / 8 km run (54 minutes) + 45-minute lunchtime yoga + 20-minute strength circuit
Started Monday off with a nice run with my friend and Chloe, I always love starting my days off with runs! At lunch I went to my normal Monday yoga class with my coworker and when I got home that night I did the same strength circuit from last week. I felt very tired though, probably because I had already ran and did yoga that day, so I only went through the circuit twice.
Tuesday – 75-minute flow class + 5.6 mile / 9 km trail run (1 hour, 25 minutes)

Favourite Tuesday morning flow class that I go to every Tuesday morning! I’m going to miss it next week when we’re in Mexico (but not that much!) We always do lots of vinayasa’s and balancing poses and it’s such a wonderful way to start the day. Then that evening I met my friend, her husband and all their dogs for a trail run with Chloe. There were three of us and four dogs running trails in the dark with our headlamps. The snow was soft and it was super windy. It was a tough run while we were out there but I was glad I did it once we were done. I really love trail running in the dark these days. You move slowly and really have to watch the ground in front of you but it is so incredibly peaceful!
Wednesday – 3.9 mile / 6.2 km run (37 minutes)
My coworker is training for the Vancouver marathon so I ran with her at lunch. She is much faster than me so an easy run for her was more like a tempo run for me. It felt good to run fast though as I’ve been doing lots and lots of easy runs lately but not much speedwork.
Thursday – 4.7 mile / 7.5 km run (50 minutes)
Another morning run. I worked really late on Wednesday night so I was super tired but glad I got it done as always. I wanted to go to yoga on Thursday night but could feel myself coming down with a cold so ended up just relaxing at home.
Friday – REST
Saturday - REST
I did a lot of walking Friday and Saturday but also a lot of eating and drinking! It was a very successful shopping weekend!
Sunday – 60-minute flow class
Another regular class for me is the 8:30 pm flow class on Sundays. LOVE it, such a good way to end a weekend. We do a long and deep savasana at the end of this class and I’m pretty sure I fell asleep on Sunday after my busy weekend!
Totals:
Miles / km – 19.2 miles / 30.9 km
Time on my feet – 3 hours, 45 minutes
Weights/P90X – 1 workout for a total of 20 minutes
Yoga – 3 practices for a total of 3 hours

How were your workouts last week? If you know you have a busy weekend planned do you increase your workouts during the week? I will be doing that again this week as I prepare to go to Mexico next week. Lots of workouts Monday through Friday and then lots of rest, relaxation and FOOD in Mexico

Nice work on getting all those workouts in despite having a busy weekend away! I did pretty good on getting my workouts in this week. I finally went for a ‘long’ run outdoors on Saturday. I did 6 miles which is obviously not long but it was long enough for me!
My 10 mile race is fast approaching so I am trying to increase my mileage so it’s not too much of a shock to jump up to 10 miles!
When I traveling or have something going on over the weekend, I do try to move workouts around to get them all in. I am somewhat successful at doing this most of the time!
Looks like another good week of working out for you! I have to be better at doing double workouts in a day so I can get all the things I want to do in haha. I like to plan my workouts out the week before (somewhat it often changes) because then I can change it based on my week/weekend plans. I think I more often do a lot of working out on the weekend because I know I will have a busy week, but I definitely go the other way around if I know I’ll be away without access to a gym or time to run.
We are going to Cancun for our honeymoon in May, so you need to keep a list of things to do!
Sometimes I up training… but actually I figure sometimes it just doesn’t matter. You aren’t necessarily “getting ahead” or “catching up” by adding in extra workouts. Our bodies don’t recognize that you ran extra last week to make up for the runs you aren’t doing this week, it just lives in the moment. I’d be more afraid of injuring myself if I tried to add an extra workout in, plus I just don’t have the time or mental energy to spare for that.
You go girl! Love reading your blog so it keeps me on track with my training! Can’t wait for May woohooo!!! I’m up to about 7 km right now
Oh my gosh, that picture with the town below covered in snow…gorgeous! I want to come run on your trails someday. Nice work on keeping up the miles. I’m doing the same thing this week as I have a girls getaway this weekend. Luckily, one of my friends will likely go on a run or two with me and I usually get up before the others so I can sneak out for a quick run or at least a yoga stretch indoors.
