Vancouver Half-Marathon Training: Week 2

Monday – 75-minute traditional hot yoga class + 60-minute legs & back P90X workout
Started my week off with an awesome 6 am yoga class and then did the legs and back P90X workout with Eric in the evening. It did not leave my legs as sore as I thought it would so that was good! I may have to ramp up the effort a bit tonight
Tuesday – 75-minute flow yoga class
Another amazing 6 am yoga class to start off my day!
Wednesday – 45-minute lunchtime yoga class + 4.25 mile / 6.85 km run
I have a lunchtime yoga punch pass at a downtown studio (not my usual hot studio) that I go to sometimes with coworkers but I hadn’t been since September. The lunch class I went to last week was amazing!! It is such a wonderful way to break up the work day and I went back feeling super relaxed and refreshed in the afternoon.
Then Wednesday evening we did 5 x 500 m hill repeats at run clinic in a complete blizzard! It was actually kind of amazing to be out running as the snow was coming down but the slippery sidewalk made it hard on the ankles.
Thursday – 2 mile / 3.2 km trail run + P90X chest & back
I woke up with an urge to run on Thursday morning so I took Chloe into the trails with my headlamp on. The snow was pretty deep from our blizzard the night before but it was so amazing and peaceful running in the pitch black trails with Chloe. I would have went further but it took me 30 minutes to do 2 miles since it was SO snowy!
After work Eric and I did the P90X chest and back workout, which is basically 45 minutes of push-ups and pull-ups/chin-ups. So hard! My chest was extremely sore the next day.
Friday – 5 mile / 8 km run
Met my morning running friend for our regular loop that we’ve been doing for a few years. It’s been a month or two since we did it so it was nice to get back out there. It turned cold overnight and was about -10 C when we did this run but I really enjoyed it!
Saturday – 75-minutes of P90X (plyometrics + shoulders and arms) + 20-minutes of yoga
I tried to go to yoga Saturday afternoon but it was full so I spent the day running errands and doing stuff around the house and then Saturday evening Eric and I did 30-minutes of the P90X plyometrics workout and then the shoulders and arms DVD. I decided I really like lifting weights when I’m doing it but it’s difficult to motivate myself to lift. Then since i missed yoga I did a quick 20-minute practice that night right before bed using the yoga downloads iPhone app.
Sunday – 9.3 mile / 15 km run + 75-minute yin yoga class

It was COLD on Sunday; -13 C / 10 F. I was still chilled even after running for almost two hours. It took a venti extra hot latte and a hot shower with JUST the hot water tap on (our hot water isn’t actually that hot. ha) to warm me up. My ponytail was completely frozen by the end of the run!
In the afternoon I went to the yin yoga class at my studio. We focused on hip opening and it was amazing. I had the deepest savasana afterwards. I literally feel “high” after yin classes because I’m so relaxed!
Totals:
Miles / km – 20.5 miles / 33 km
P90X – 3.5 workouts
Yoga – 5 practices for a total of 290 minutes

Such a good week! I am feeling super energized and motivated to work out lately and I think it shows in my weekly recap. I am feeling especially drawn to yoga lately, I just want to practice all the time and LOVE the way I feel during and after my practices. I am also having so much fun doing P90X with Eric. It’s been a long time since we worked out together regularly!
How was your week of training and/or workouts last week?

Another great week of training for you! I went out for a run on Saturday and it was -12C when I left. It wasn’t too bad going the one way, but on the way back to my car, the wind picked up so it was pretty chilly.
Great week! I love the post yoga feeling! Sometimes i even fall asleep at the end. It is good to relax!
I think it DEFINITELY shows that you’re motivated to work out lately, I was actually going to say that before you did haha. Pass some of that along to me! You’re really making me want to start p90x, I wish I had someone to do it with
You definitely seem to be back to your old work outs
Glad you got your motivation back! I bet eating better and getting back into the routine is helping!
I really need to get back into yoga. Thanks for motivating me with your posts!
Nice work! That is an awesome week of training – you fit so much in! My week went so so. I skipped my run on Thur morning as I didn’t sleep well on Wednesday night. And then i couldn’t fit a run in on Saturday as I left Phil’s too late to run before the baby shower. So I only ran 3 times, but oh well. It was sort of an off week in general so I am giving myself a pass.
I can read your excitement for working out/happiness in the post.
Good golly lady!! I’m tired just reading it all
Ha but seriously way to go—I’m super impressed that you’re able to fit it all in even. So now I have to ask, how much sleep do you usually need and how do you ensure that you’re getting enough protein to stay energized (something I’m currently struggling with). You’re incredibly hardy with the snow runs!! I love reading all of you runners though cause it makes me motivated to be less fair weather–haha
My workouts were fantastic. I’m really enjoying the NROL. I am missing my yoga though, but it starts again at the end of January so that will be nice. I went skiing & snowshoeing this weekend, so it was playful workouts, which was really fun.
You really kicked it up a notch this week with the workouts! I keep saying I am going to go to yoga, but it hasn’t happened yet. I even bought a groupon but still haven’t used it. It’s just something I need to do and once the habit forms, it will be a lot easier! You make it sound so great! It’s been a long time since I have been!
you may have an important blog here! would you wish to make some invite posts on my blog?
