Review of 23!

Yesterday I turned 24! I had an amazing weekend celebrating my birthday (yes I celebrated for the entire weekend!) and will recap later in the week. In the meantime, it’s time for my annual yearly review. I’ve reviewed 21 and 22 in the past. 🙂

Both of those years I called them the best of my life thus far, but I think this past year wins again. But in hindsight the last three years have been pretty darn amazing and for that I am very thankful.

So let’s look at 23 (yes I know it’s technically my “24th year” and now I’m going into my 25th but I just think that sounds weird so I’m calling it my 23rd year!)

When I was 23 I…

Ran a sub-2 hour half-marathon and had an amazing blogger/running weekend in Victoria!

My brother moved in with us for 6 months.

Traveled to Florida and visited Harry Potter World.

Had an amazing bridal shower.

Started training for my second marathon with the Running Room.

Was asked to be an official blogger for the Vancouver Marathon!

Got a new job! Which 6 months later I am SO IN LOVE WITH every day. I go home every day feeling fulfilled, satisfied and happy. I can honestly say that in 6 months I have not dreaded going to work once. This has been an amazing decision and move for me career-wise!

Went to a Vancouver Canucks game!

We (OK, Eric) built a new deck and fenced in our yard which resulted in Chloe finally being fully potty trained!

Ran my second marathon in Vancouver on the most beautiful course I have ever been on for a race (and ran the first 32K with Britt – so much fun!)

Had the most AMAZING and FUN bachelorette party thrown for me by the best friends ever.

Tried crossfit and fell in love with it.

Continued to plan my wedding throughout all of the above.

Signed up for my second 30-day hot yoga challenge in two years.

And finally, I completed my Project 366 (taking one photo a day for the whole year!) Check out the album on Facebook 🙂

WHEW. Quite a year right? I have to admit I wouldn’t mind if 24 was a little calmer. There are no big things on the horizon right now but you just never know what I might come up with to keep myself busy. Clearly that hasn’t been a problem in the last three years 🙂

How has the last year been for you?

Yay- what a fantastic and a little bit crazy year you have had! I do think life has calmed down for me since the year I got married and probably will stay calmish until I decide to have a baby haha, but I am good with that and it has still been awesome, especially attending other people’s weddings! Visiting your beautiful area of the country, meeting you, Lisa and Anais was definitely one of the highlights of my 2012 year so far 🙂

I hope your year of being 24 includes a visit to Boston!

  2. Heidi says:

Happy Birthday Amber! Hope you have another fabulous year!

  3. Becky says:

What a FABULOUS year! So cool that you took a picture every day and that you were able to ring in your birthday right!

  4. ris says:

Wow what a fabulous year you had! And happy belated birthday, haha. Can’t wait to look at all your pictures!

  5. Lindsey says:

2012 has been a long year for me. Just a lot of of little things and big changes but I am okay with that! Happy belated birthday!

  6. Caroline says:

I love these year in review posts, I’m always amazed by how much you do! Happy birthday and wishing you another amazing year!

  7. Wow, when you write it all down like that, you really DID do a lot last year! I am happy that I was part of some of those wonderful memories of this past year of your life – and know that I will be part of every year to come. 🙂

The past year was pretty chaotic for me as well. It held some highs, like running a sub-2 hour marathon, being a part of your wedding, taking an amazing trip to the Pacific Northwest, and passing level II of the CFA. But it also has had some lows, like my sinus surgery, finding out my dad had cancer, and having my boss leave the company. I suppose life is always composed of mountains and valleys, though, and we have to take the good with the bad. All in all, I look back on the last year of my life and still feel happy about it because most of those lows have created some highs, like I am no longer sick as much due to my sinus surgery, and my dad beat cancer. And hopefully something good will come of my boss leaving – or it won’t be as traumatic as I think it is.

Anyways, I am rambling here. Bottom line, I hope the year to come is full of as many wonderful events as last year. I know they won’t be ‘landmark’ events like a wedding and such, but I think there many good things to come for you! I love you to the moon and back! 🙂

  8. What a great year you’ve had! You’re going to remember this year for the rest of your life, it’s such a turning point for you.

I’m so inspired by how much you love your “new” job. That is so rare to have figured that out early in your career and you’re very lucky! I’m so glad you made the switch.

Happy birthday, Amber! Cheers to your 25th year!

  9. Holly says:

Wow, when you write it out like that, you really accomplished a lot in the past year! My year has been filled with ups and downs and an awful lot of busy-ness – My goal for the next year is to somehow figure out how to SLOW DOWN! I love when you share about your job – it’s inspiring to see someone so happy at work! I don’t hate my job but I don’t LOVE it – by the time the clock hits about 9:13 am I’m ready for the day to be done and I start counting down the hours!

    And happy belated birthday!!!

  10. Happy Belated Birthday Amber!! You had a pretty amazing, and I’m glad you celebrated it for the whole weekend. I think that’s pretty much mandatory. 🙂

  11. Nora says:

Happy Belated birthday, friend! What a year you have had. So much love and happy things and many accomplishments, too. Can’t wait to see what this year holds for you. I’m hoping it means we can FINALLY meet since I’ll definitely be in Seattle at some point next year!

  12. J says:

HAPPY Birthday!! Hope you had a great weekend of celebrating! I bet this coming year is going to be even better!

  13. Stephany says:

You have had SUCH an amazing year – new job, marathon, wedding… it’s going to be hard to top 23! 🙂

My year has been pretty crazy but overall, so much fun and enjoyable. I can’t complain!

  14. Melissa says:

Happy birthday once again Amber! Hope you had a great weekend. 😀

Your 24th year was absolutely amazing, it still amazes me to think you’re barely a year older than me and you’ve accomplished so many fantastic things!

Here’s to another year full of adventures and relaxation and everything in between 🙂

  15. I love this! I should have done something like this for my recent birthday but I’ll have to keep it in mind to review 30. HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY! What a great year it has been 🙂

  16. Yes, you did so many fun things this past year!!! Hopefully you have a fun, but maybe more relaxing year ahead?! You got a lot of tough, but rewarding things accomplished this year. And how can you ever forget the year you marry your best friend? Cheers!

  17. Leigh says:

You definitely had a great last year! I think the best part besides getting married of course, was our trip to Victoria! So much fun. I wish we were doing it again this year 🙁

This past year has been good….have done lots of running, took trips with friends and family and got into CrossFit 🙂

  18. Shoshanah says:

You definitely had an amazing year, and I think for most people, you included the year you get married is probably one of their best. But while there’s been a lot of amazing things this past year, I too got married and went to Harry Potter World for the first time, there’s been a big low. But I guess you keep going on, and hopefully the high wind up outweighing the lows.

  19. Travel Spot says:

I think you are the kind of person that keeps yourself busy no matter what…so…what’s in store for this year? Taking up kayaking, skydiving, mountaineering…? I am sure you will find something! You haven’t been to San Francisco yet! 😉

  20. Happy belated birthday!!!!

You had an awesome 23rd year and I hope 24 is just as great!!!!

  21. Bronwyn says:

Wow! I know you had a crazy year, but seeing it summed up makes it all the more crazy! Hopefully your 24th year can only top it, right? 😉

  22. Alli says:

Happy Birthday (a bit late)! I hope this is another great year for you.

  23. Britt says:

I’m so glad to have met you this past year 🙂 I hope your birthday was truly spectacular!
