in about me,meme

J at Morning Runner tagged me to do the 21 things post so here it is!

One.

It really bugs me when people say they wish they had the time to do _____. (I get I wish I had the time to run or do yoga a lot). We all have the same number of hours in the day and we all choose – more or less – how to use them. Sometimes you have to MAKE the time!

Two.

Some of my newer readers might not know this but Eric and I have actually known each other since we were 5 and 6. We were sat together in grade 9/10 science class. I remember this but he doesn’t. Pffft.

Three.

Twitter > Facebook in my world, however I will probably never delete Facebook because I use it to stay in touch with A LOT of people. It’s how I got 90% of the addresses for the save the dates!

Our Kickass Hockey Team

Four.

I spent 6 years of my life playing hockey and I was a goalie for 5 of those 6 years! I played with girls and boys. I used to really love the sport but I think I burned myself out on it in high school as I have no desire to play again. It’s the only sport I enjoy watching though and I think that’s because I understand all the rules really well. I think understanding the rules can make a big difference in whether or not you enjoy watching a sport!

Five.

Eric and I first became “boyfriend and girlfriend” on February 5, 2005. This February it will be seven years since that night. I can hardly believe it because I still remember it so vividly!

Six.

I have a degree in Journalism with a major in Public Relations. I’m currently working in marketing and communications so I am applying a lot of the skills I learned in university. I also do freelance writing on the side.

Seven.

I’ve had this nagging urge at the back of my mind for almost a year now to become a yoga instructor. Not full-time or anything, but get certified and maybe teach part-time on the side. It’s something I plan to do one day when I have the money and can make the time. And also when I figure out what kind of yoga I want to get certified in!

Eight.

I don’t have any allergies or food intolerances! I have several friends with both so I feel very fortunate not to have any.

Nine.

Nine is my absolutely favourite number. My birthday is 09/09 and I’ve always had an attachment to this number, even more-so now that we are also getting married on the 9th!

Ten.

I am a huge animal lover. I wanted to be a veterinarian as a child and my pets bring me more joy than I could ever describe.

DSC 0197

Eleven.

I love to travel. LOVE it. I would rather spend my money on trips, travel and experiences than anything else so I make putting money into our “fun and trips” savings account a big priority in our budget.

Twelve.

Other than a mortgage and one car loan (and a very small amount of credit card debt, like under $1,000) Eric and I have no debt. I’m really proud of us for being at this place in our lives. We’re extremely lucky to be here due to a variety of external factors (hi mom and dad!) but we also aren’t stupid with money and we don’t buy things we don’t have the cash to pay for.

Thirteen.

I did not have any of our wedding planned before getting engaged. I used to daydream about my wedding all the time of course but it was vastly different every time. I would dream about a beach wedding in Mexico, a backyard wedding in my hometown and everything in between. I’m really happy with how our wedding is coming together though even if it’s not something I’ve always dreamed of or had planned out.

Fourteen.

Eric is born on the 14th of November and his birthday (14) plus mine (9) = 23. Ever seen that movie? Kind of freaky!

DSC 0872

Fifteen.

I really do love running! I know some people want to love running, but I feel so lucky to have truly fallen in love with it after I started back in 2009. I cannot imagine my life without my weekly runs and make sure to fit them into my schedule even when I’m not training for a race.

Sixteen.

The closest thing I’ve found to a “runners high” is how I feel after a hot yoga class. No other workout quite does it for me like running and hot yoga.

Seventeen.

I really want to write a book one day. That’s all I know though. I don’t know if I want to write fiction or non-fiction nor do I have a storyline figured out. I just know that “write a book” is on my life goal list.

100 0976

Eighteen.

I still remember my 18th birthday like it was yesterday. How has it been five years? (picture above is from my19th birthday, which I also remember like it was yesterday, because I sadly don’t have a single photo from my 18th!)

Nineteen.

I have a HUGE sweet tooth. Huge. It is so so hard for me to resist having something sweet after both lunch and dinner. But especially after dinner. I am trying to convert to having tea or mandarin oranges but I still have chocolate/dessert at least 3-5 nights a week!

Twenty.

I had many self-confidence issues when I was in middle school and high school. If only I’d known that my 20′s would be the best years of my life (so far!) I know a lot of people say their twenties were hard but so far mine have been pretty great and have just been getting better and better.

DSC 0471

Twenty-one.

I actually don’t know how to play the real game “21″ and have no interest in gambling at all. I’ve gone to the casino a few times but I don’t find it fun and look at it more like ‘I’m throwing money away’ than ‘I might win big’. Can you tell that I’m SO not the kind of person who buys lottery tickets? I think I’ve bought maybe 2 or 3 in my whole life. I’d rather spend the $10 on a couple of lattes.

***
Whewie! I’ve been drafting this post for well over a week. Thinking of 21 things can be hard!! I am not going to tag anyone to do this but to anyone who decides to I say “good luck” ;)

Questions of the day: What’s your favourite number? Did you learn anything new about me? Do you play the lottery?

Haha, I love this post- so many random things about Amber :) I am with you on traveling, it’s the best! Wait until you get even older like me, then time feels even weirder- my friend just posted a picture on facebook from college and said can’t believe this was 8 years ago (sophomore year), I also had friends posting this week that many of us got into college 10 years ago…. 10 years?! It feels like 2 seconds. For me my 20s have been the best time as well, though there were definitely some good times of my teens as well. My hope is every decade gets better :)

Me back again- I’m curious why you like Twitter better than Facebook. I like Twitter but I find it hard to keep up with, and I like being able to look at people’s pictures on Facebook. I’m just curious :) I think I’m more of a Facebook person.

I don’t think I knew you played hockey! One of my “30 before 30″ goals is to go to a professional hockey game – I’ve never been and I think it could be something I’d really get into. (Plus, Ben thinks it’s funny when I shout at the referees during a soccer game so I can only imagine hockey!)

My favorite number is maybe 6, which is the date of my birthday! I didn’tknow that you’ve know Eric for THAT long!

I do NOT play the lottery. Um, hello, I am a math major. I KNOW the crappy odds!!! ;) We actually did some math problems in college related to the lottery!

YAY So glad you participated! I love learning new things about people. My birthday is 3/3 and I love it! Its fun to meet other people with same month/day birth dates!

I think you should totally do the yoga instructor thing! I bet you would be good at it because you have such a passion for yoga!

Great post. My favorite number is 13 and nope, I don’t play the lottery. I am not a gambler. :)

I am with you on many of these (and enjoyed finding out more about you)…especially #21. Casinos don’t do anything for me and hate just throwing money away in such a quick, unnecessary way!

I’m with you on the sweet tooth thing. Rarely do I go a day without some sort of sweetness… it gets a bit annoying when I don’t have anything in the house!

Your birthday is 9/9? Mine is 7/7. And of course 7 is my favorite and lucky number. Great list!

Thought it might have been hard for you to come up with 21 things, it was fun learning some new stuff about you :) My favorite number is 3…don’t know why it started, but it used to always be a jersey number in soccer and it’s stuck since then. I don’t play the lottery because I never win anything…I don’t have very good luck. Although back in public school, the library had a contest that for each book you read, you got to guess how many candies were in a jar and I won the jar of candies! I took them to school and people kept asking me for some…I felt so cool! Haha.

This was so much fun to read!! I had no idea you and Eric have known each other for so long… How romantic :) [minus him not remembering parts of it, lol!]

By the way, your super short hair from your pic at the Louvre looks AWESOME on you. You’re lucky that long and short hair suit you so well, I’m jealous! And related to that, I want a picture in front of the Louvre like that. There really is no feeling like traveling.

I’m taking you up on your challenge! I’m going to try and write this post throughout the course of the day… *Hopefully* you’ll see it up later!

As a new reader, I enjoyed this post and learning more about you! I love when people do these kinds of posts because they really are random and are often not things you could otherwise learn from someone’s blog.

My favorite random fact about me: I don’t have a sense of smell.

My favourite number varies between 7 (my birthday), 14 (my soccer jersey number in high school) and 16 (Trevor Linden!).

I think guys will never be able to remember nostalgic dates and facts. Kyle and I to this day argue over what “day” we actually started dating! He says Nov. 16, I say it was the 18th! (I’m right obviously!) And we met when we were about the same age as you and Eric!

I’m not a routine lottery player, but I’ll buy a ticket every now and then. It’s usually a “Hey, you never know!” situation and it’s always fun to imagine what you’d do if you won the jackpot!

My favourite number is 23. Also 10 is high up there. There must be something about birthday numbers being people’s favourites…. I definitely go on twitter more than facebook these days, and I like it in a different way than facebook, both have their positive points I think.

oh man, I feel the exact same way about gambling. but you know what’s fun? you can sit at a nickel machine in Las Vegas for hours – you get free drinks and it can take you an hour to lose $5 :)

I really enjoyed this post! I like Twitter better too… I feel like Facebook is sometimes a free-for-all, and some people can get waaaay too personal on it.

I don’t gamble either, and have never bought myself a lottery ticket. And probably the only lottery I’d consider entering is something like the one they do for BC Children’s Hospital because at least it’s going to a good cause… And I don’t feel like there are people out there who are “addicted” to buying tickets to support a cause like that, lol!

Such a cute post! My mom is getting her yoga certification now, and she LOVES it! She isn’t even do it to teach necessarily, but just to have more in depth knowledge on the different kinds of yoga and the different moves. I love the idea, and think you would get a lot out of it!

I’m not a gambler either. And not interested in it. It just seems like throwing away money. However, I do feel like I should buy a lottery ticket now and then. It would be awesome to win and not have to work for a few years. :)

I ABSOLUTELY agree with #1. One of my favorite quotes is, “if it’s important, you will find a way; if it’s not, you will find an excuse.” I find it great not just for getting yourself to do something, but also as a wakeup call if I’ve procrastinated on something for a long time – it’s clearly not as important as I like to think it is.

My best friend’s birthday is also on September 9th :-) I remember when we celebrated her 9th birthday … it was fun!

My favourite number is 13.

I buy lottery tickets every few weeks, but never win much.

This would take a long time to write!! It was interesting though and I learned more about you!
I am one of those people that tries to love running, but just doesn’t. I cannot imagine running more than three miles, and am okay with that! I enjoy things like Zumba or Step more.
You should totally become an instructor! I can see you doing that!!

My favorite number is 9 too! It was my soccer number when I made the varsity team, and I chose that number because it was my mentor’s number my freshman year and then it was the number of a Swedish foreign exchange student during my sophomore year who taught me so much more about soccer! I finally had the number my junior and senior year :)

fun randomness, as always :) how cool that you and eric go so far back! (even if he doesn’t remember, boys…) i’d much rather spend money on an experience than ‘stuff’. stuff doesn’t last forever but memories do (well ok, for the most part, until you go senile haha)

This was so fun to read! I learned a lot about you!

I had no idea you were a hockey player for a portion of your life — that is so cool! I wish I understood the game….as a spectator I always found the rules to be quite confusing!

I think you should definitely be a yoga instructor some day. You could just do like 1 class a week or something!

And your “23″ freaked me out! After reading that one my bday (27) minus ryan’s bday (4) = …..23! Ah!

My sweet tooth gets out of control after lunch. As long as I keep busy, I can control it after dinner but those afternoon hours at work are HARD!

I just love that yoga picture of you. Your hair looks fantastic and it’s just so peaceful. <3

My favorite number is seventeen. It’s my husband’s favorite number, too, which is why we got married on the 17th at 17:00. ;) (We were also engaged on 11/6, which adds up to 17, but that was just total coincidence!) That movie 23 is definitely creepy. (Now that I think about it, my birthday is the 1st and Husband’s is the 31st, which adds to 32 … which is 23 backwards. Does that count? Haha.)

Great list! That is a long time to know your fiance… I met my husband freshman year of high school, and it’s fun to have memories back that far. I also have to have some chocolate most days. :)
