22nd year in review

Well folks, it’s that time of year again: Birthday Week! I turn 23 on Friday!

I cannot believe it’s been a whole year since I posted “The Year of No Goals” blog post. My 21st year (2009-2010) was probably my best year yet (Europe, graduating university, getting a job etc.) but my 22nd year has gone by faster than any year of my life so far. I feel like I just wrote the above blog post yesterday.

When I wrote that blog post exactly one year ago I said that this year I wanted to relax and have fun. I don’t know if I necessarily achieved that goal. It was a very busy year with lots going on. Let’s review, shall we?

In my 22nd year I…

It was a really busy year, which is probably why it went by SO fast!

By the way, speaking of entering into my 23rd year, I’m going to be doing the 365 pictures in 365 days project starting on Friday! Really excited about this new project, I think it’ll be such a cool way to capture the year. I already take TONS of photos on my iPhone every day so it shouldn’t be a problem. I will be posting the pictures on my personal Facebook, the blogs Facebook page and occasionally on Twitter!

How was the last year for you? What was your 22nd year like? What year in your life went by the fastest?

  1. Seems to be you’ve had quite a productive and good year! Congrats! 🙂

23 was a good year for me. It was after my big move up to Chicago and I was experiencing so much for the first time…

  2. J says:

Happy early Birthday!! Last year was a fun year – I hope next year is even better for you and me!

  3. Wow, 22 was a big year for you, full of amazing things!! And 23 is going to rock with a wedding and a honeymoon!!

At age 22, I graduated from college, moved to Minneapolis, and got my first apartment (with a not-so-great roommate). For me, my early 20s were kind of ‘meh’. My mid 20s were a time of growth and travel. And my late 20s were when I started to come into my own, and really year 30 is when it all came together for me!

I am excited for your birthday! I know you are, but I will be excited for you! I love birthdays because you realize just how many people in your life care about you! It’s kind of nice to be reminded of that once a year. 🙂

Wow, it sounds like you really had a great year! My 22nd year was awesome because I was living in France, so I was able to travel a ton. Then I moved to NYC and started grad school, so it was a year full of changes and growth.

I just next year is just as awesome for you!

  5. I feel really old because I have to think hard about how my year at 22 was and what I did. BUT, I finished university that year- so that’s a bit of a big deal 🙂 I also went to Guatemala, Belize, and southern Mexico. Then I celebrated turning 23 in style and started looking for a job so that I could join the “real world”.

    Happy Birthday week!

You’ve had quite a year. I was still in college when I was 22 – ready to be done, but not done yet. I’m guessing it didn’t go by fast for me, but s-l-o-w-l-y. I didn’t have a house or a dog or a job or a fiance at that point in my life, lived in some run-down rental unit near school and was a poor college student. I also wasn’t running!

  7. Stephany says:

22 has been a pretty good year for you, I would say! Buying a townhouse, getting engaged, a puppy, running a marathon – whew!

My 22nd year was fairly BLAH. Not a lot happened. I was still in school, so I felt stuck for most of the year. 23 has been much, much better to me. 🙂

  8. Emily Jane says:

What an amazing year! Lots better than MY 22nd, haha. I hope 23 is even better!

  9. Caroline says:

Wow you accomplished SO much in your 22nd year! I honestly feel like the older I get, the faster each year goes by. It’s crazy!

I’ve thought about doing the 365 project, but I’ve never actually set out to do it yet. I’m looking forward to seeing all your photos!!

  10. Damn!! You did so much in year 22 – can’t wait to see what 23 brings!

  11. Becky says:

Happy almost birthday! We’ve talked about this before but we’re so similar! After turning 22 I graduated college, got engaged, and started planning a wedding all before age 23!

I definitely think time speeds up as you get older, and this might be the first year this is really starting to hit for you! 🙂

  12. Lauren says:

This year was very exciting for you with the engagement, puppy, house, and more! I turn 22 next month, so we’ll see what it brings me. All I know is that I’ll be graduating from college!

  13. Carissa says:

happy almost birthday!! 🙂 wow, you really have had an amazing year! you’ve accomplished so much, even in your year with no goals! haha. here’s hoping next year is even better and full of joy! xoxo

  14. Leigh says:

You definitely had a fantastic 22nd year!! Did many amazing and exciting things 🙂 I think it’s crazy that I will be 25 in October…I don’t feel like I am almost 25 already. Where did the time go??

  15. 22 was a weird year. I had just moved to New Jersey to Oregon and was completely alone. I loved it because I was living near NYC and had a good job, but it was lonely without any friends. I’m not sure what my fastest year would have been. I think probably 23 or 24 was pretty quick. I did not like 25. Being 26 seems to be going pretty good so far though!

  16. Bronwyn says:

Happy almost-birthday!!! My past year has been crazy; so many ups and downs for me. Some cool stuff (going to Africa!) and some not so cool stuff (mental struggles) but I liked it.
I think my 22nd year was good, though I FREAKED OUT when I turned 22. I liked turning 23 better, and I’m excited to turn 24 (though OMG I’ll officially be mid-twenties! GAH!).
Hope you have a fantastic birthday weekend!

  17. Creeping closer and closer to mid-twenties, Amber! 😉 Hehe!
You had a GREAT year!! So many milestones! So many exciting moments! I’m glad your 22nd year was awesome, I have a feeling 23 is going to be just as amazing!!!
My year was pretty fantastic too, it’s my last year in 20s (sob!) but I am making the most of it. Although I haven’t blogged about it much, I have a feeling that I will not have near as much time to myself in my 30s as I have had in my 20s. For this past year I have tried to really savor that time, enjoy myself more and focus on what truly make ME happy.
Each year seems to go faster and faster, so the fastest year for me has been the most recent year.
Hope your week is going well!!

  18. Kara says:

I actually had to open up my desktop calendar to remember what year it was when I was 22! Gosh I’m old!

When I was 22 I worked at a huge copper mine for the summer, was going into my last year of J-School, traveled to Saskatoon in the middle of winter, and got my first “grown up” job! It seems like it was just yesterday too.

  19. You really did have quite the year eh? I always forget you’re so young because you’ve done so many grown up things.

I feel like the last two or three years have gone by the fastest. There are things that feel like they just happened and I think back and realize that was two years ago. I dont care if it makes me sound old, but time really does fly by. Its amazing.

  20. Amber–I’m so impressed with all you’ve accomplished in 22 years! When I was 22, I was still in college and hadn’t done much more than attend a bunch of frat parties and move to various apartments!

My last year (30) was pretty dang amazing. I’ll soon be 31 and I can honestly say that 30 just might be the best year of my life thus far 🙂

My 20s were such a time of growth for me. I totally metamorphasized. There were moments in my late 20s where the years just seemed to drag on (when I was down and depressed)—but the past two years (29 and 30) have literally FLOWN by–I think because I’ve never felt happier. (Time flies when you’re having fun, right?)

I wish you the happiest of birthdays!!!! 🙂 May 23 bring you even more adventures and fun times!!!

  21. Vanessa says:

Looks like a wonderful year! Your pup is just too cute. 🙂

  22. Anais says:

What a beautiful year it’s been 🙂 How are you going to top that for your 23rd?? If anyone can have an even better year it’s you, and I can’t wait to see what it brings you 🙂

  23. wow what a busy year!! I think so far, 26 was my busiest and one of the most exciting. I hope 23 is just as great for you!!

  24. Nora says:

When I first saw this I was convinced I screwed up your birthday dates in my planner! Phew, glad I didn’t mess up that badly. Anyway… love this recap! You certainly did have a lot going on this year but so full of so many good things!!! Can’t ask for more than that, can you?

Kind of funny in that our lives were a bit similar this year… engagement, moving to a new house, traveling, and instead of a puppy I got kids 🙂 So fortunate to call you a best friend and so excited for your 23rd year!

  25. Holly says:

Wow, you did a LOT this past year! Happy early birthday 🙂

  26. Katrina says:

You did a lot of fun things this past year!! Awesome!!
Basically the past TWO years have been a blur for me, got prego Sept 2009, had Tayor June 2010, was on mat leave until June 2011 and now back working, the in between was filled with travelling, half marathon training, working on the house and playing with Taylor 🙂 I’m looking forward to this next year….maybe another baby 🙂

  27. steph anne says:

It was definitely a great year of accomplishments for you! Here’s to another great year for you getting married and maybe having kids. I remember your post about kids so I was just saying that because that’s the famous question people ask after getting married. 🙂

  28. Lisa says:

You’ve had a BIG year for someone with no goals. 🙂

  29. You had a busy year!!

The last year has gone by the fastest. Unfortunately they go by faster and faster each year 🙁

My 22nd year was my first year as a married woman, and the first year living outside of my parent’s home. It was also my first year of teaching, and the start of my second degree. It was a very exciting time.

This past year I started grad school, completed most of it, found a thesis supervisor, and was matron-of-honour in my sister’s wedding. It has been a great year, but it has flown by. I turn 29 in October. Craziness!

  30. Lindsay says:

Busy year!! Happy almost 23rd birthday!!

  31. wow, you did a lot this year no doubt!

  32. Kelly says:

Wow, you did do a lot in the last year! I swear every single year seems to go by faster so it will be interesting to see if it’s the same way for you.

My 22nd year was a tough one. I like being an adult and working, but my first year teaching was REALLY hard for so many reasons and I was sick a lot because I didn’t know what was going on with my tummy. The rest of my years after that were much better, some more than others 🙂

  33. Kyria says:

Wow, you have done a lot this year! You are way ahead of my 22nd year. Like Kara, I had to look at a calendar to figure out which year that was and where I was etc.

When I was in my 22nd year, I moved to San Francisco, moved twice, and was working too much, going to school too much and partying too much. It was a great but busy year, I made tons of new friends and enjoyed getting to know my new city, but I definitely was not done accomplishing my goals in life.

  34. Shoshanah says:

    First off, happy early birthday!

2nd, I love the idea of doing a project 365. I’ve always wanted to do one, and think about doing one at the start of every year, but forget until I’m a day or so in. I think it would be a lot of fun, and I love to have it by the end.

  35. nikki says:

    Ahhhh happy birthday week punkin!!!!!

  36. Meg says:

What a year! Congrats on everything! You inspired my latest with this awesome list! I started running when I was 22!

  37. Heather C says:

Geeeze – this was definitely a busy year! 🙂 Can’t wait to see what you do while you hold the 2-3 down!

  38. Rachel says:

Happy early birthday!! You’ve accomplished SO much this year, wow! I can’t remember a whole heck of a lot about my 22nd year (I didn’t even know it was my champagne birthday!)… All the years I was in school are just a big blur now! This year (24) has been the fastest year for me by far, probably because life seems to go by so fast when you’re in the working world.

  39. Happy early birthday! You did so much this year, it’s amazing. Here’s wishing you another great one! 😀
