Ten on Tuesday
I didn’t really have a post planned for today so when I found out my blog BFF Lisa created this weeks Ten on Tuesday questions I decided to participate!
***

1. How do you pronounce the word aunt? Does your pronunciation rhyme with ‘haunt’ or ‘can’t’?
This question made me giggle right off the bat because Lisa and I actually talked about this during our road trip last fall since we pronounce it differently. I thought it was an American thing but I remember this being discussed a few months ago on Twitter and lot’s of Americans pronounce it similar to me. I pronounce ‘aunt‘ the same way I would pronounce ‘ant’.
We also discovered that I pronounce pasta differently. I pronounce it past-a and Lisa and Lauren pronounced it p-au-sta.
2. Do most of the people in your life know you blog? Or are you partially or totally anonymous?
Not even a little bit anonymous. My parents, my grandparents, a lot of high school friends and even my coworkers know about and read my blog!
3. When you grocery shop, do you prefer to bag your own groceries or do you like it when the store bags them for you? Paper, plastic, or reusable bags?
We shop at Superstore so we always have to bag our own groceries. We take reusable bags when we grocery shop. And on the occasional time we forget them I will reuse the plastic grocery bags at home to scoop Websters litter or as small garbage bags.
4. Do you have a green thumb?
Not really but I’m working on it. My garden is still alive and thriving and we’ve had several salads made from the delicious lettuce and herbs we’re growing right in our backyard already this summer.
5. If you watch the Food Network, which chef/show host is your favorite?
I don’t. We don’t have cable!
6. Do you like to take baths? Do you take them very often?
I used to really love taking baths but then I lived in my teeny-tiny basement suite for a year and only had a stand-up shower so I got out of the habit of taking baths. We’ve been in our townhouse for three months now and I’ve only taken one bath. And that was an ice bath after a long run so not sure it really counts…
7. What color are the walls in your kitchen?
Red! I love my kitchen.
8. Do you prefer to dine outdoors or indoors?
Outdoors! I LOVE eating/drinking on patio’s. We ate outside almost every day when we were in Europe and it was fabulous. Right now we have a really small dining set on our patio but I’d like to get a bigger one so we could eat out there more often.
9. Describe your ideal weather.
It depends what I’m doing. In the summer I love it when it’s around 25 – 30 C and sunny with a nice breeze – that’s nice weather for laying outside and reading a book or camping. When running I prefer overcast with a bit of sun peeking through and about 10 – 15 C.
10. If you could learn any foreign language, which would you choose to learn?
I wish I stuck with French. I took it all through school and my first year of college. After my first year of college I could read it and write it really well and could carry on a jilted conversation. I have completely lost ALL that knowledge in the last four years unfortunately.
I would also love, love, love to learn Italian. It is such a beautiful language!

How do you pronounce aunt? What about pasta?

Aunt is “ant” but sometimes I say past-a and others p-austa. I guess i depends who I am talking to although I am not sure why that matters ????
Well you know how I say pasta and aunt.
We talk different, but I love that. It was fun discovering all those things on our road trip together!
I think our weather answer was basically the same! We are so in synch.
Haha, it makes me laugh how you say pasta.
I pronounce it “ant” too. It’s definitely a regional thing – some of the Midwest says it differently as well as New Englanders.
….there is a different was to say PAST-a?
Aunt is ANT.
The bigger question…how do you say COUPON? I say COUP-on…my SIL say Q-pon.
drives me batty…
Ant and Pah-stah (hope that makes sense)
I say ‘ant’ and ‘p-au-sta’. It’s kinda funny, all the Canadians I know pronounce it ‘past-a’ and I had never heard it that way until I moved to New York!
Great post!!!! I say aunt and pasta the same way as you.
Neither, I thought it was “AHnt” with the short O sound! Same with pasta!
I say aunt like “haunt”. I think… but there’s probably a little Boston accent thrown in there.
I’m always impressed by people whose blog is completely public. Only my family and a few close friends know about my blog. I’d like to go more public with my blog.. someday.
I say aunt like you do, but say pasta like Lisa. I love hearing how people pronounce different things. When Becky and Ben stopped at the house a few months ago, they made fun of me for offering them pop instead of soda.
While I don’t hide the fact that have a blog, I don’t advertise it either. My close family doesn’t have the address, mainly because I think its really hard to know what someone is thinking all the time. I’ve given the address to a few close family friends but I don’t know if they read it or not.
I’ve been thinking about linking it to my facebook, but then I sort of want to hyperventilate.
I think I say pasta the same way Lisa does.I’ve been sitting here saying it and still can’t quite tell actually
I had a red kitchen in my last apartment and LOVED it. I miss it sometimes actually. Our current kitchen color is yellow and I really like it, especially since we are going to add a backsplash to it soon! Will look awesome.
I go with “ant” too… Re: French, I am sure it would come back if you were in the situation! I am in the same boat with Spanish, but it came back partly when I spent a week in Mexico last year and I am sure it would have come back more had I stayed longer. My French really suffered when I didn’t speak it from 2007 to 2009, but now I work in a bilingual place and I am fluent again. It’s all in the back of your mind somewhere!
I love that I can read Amber’s blog. Because she lives so far away from me, it makes me feel like I’m part of her everyday life, and when we are together it’s like I know her that much better.
I’ve passed the address along to my co-workers (because I am so proud of her and what she does) so some of them read it as well. Heck I posted the address on facebook and msn.
I think my daughter “rocks”
Your mom’s comment? LOVE!
I say aunt as in “ant” and pasta as in “pah-sta”. Every time I hear past-a, I want to laugh. I don’t know why but it just sounds so funny that way!
I think we could go on forever with the different ways to say different words! Hehe.
I always assumed pronouncing “aunt” any way other than “ant” was a British thing. We can thank The Parent Trap for that one.
Ant and p-aus-ta here. the canadians i was a nanny for said past-a and it drove me batty!
This are fun questions! So fun I’m going to do a second post today with my answers.
I say aunt like ‘aunt’ and pasta like ‘p-aus-ta’. I love hearing the way Canadians pronounce things! My mom lived in Canada when she was a kid and couldn’t hide the fact that she was American- apparently her accent gave it away!
I say “ant” to fit in in Alberta but I grew up saying “aunt” in New Brunswick. Topher will know my sisters as his “aunts” and my SIL on Nathan’s side as his “ant” – he’s going to be so confused!
And I say “past-a” – I didn’t know there was another way to say it!
I say pasta the same way as you! Maybe it’s a Canadian thing? But then again, there are some words that I pronounce weirdly. Like milk and McMaster. But that might be my Ontario accent coming through.
Not a lot of people in my life know about my blog…just my husband, mom and a few friends. I kind of like it that way
I don’t think it’s purely a “Canadian” thing – perhaps a regional thing within Canada though? I’m from Ontario and say “p-austa” and my husband who grew up in Nova Scotia says “past-a”. It drives me nuts because obviously I say it the correct way
I say ‘aunt’ like the Brits do, since my mum is from England and she taught me to speak – I’ve lost most of my accent now, but that one stuck!
It’s fun to hear how others pronounce things. I can still hear your voice in my head when I think about it (or when I watched your engagement video). Love the Canadian accent.
I think I say everything pretty “plain,” but I think most west coasters don’t find we have any accent.
I definitely say “ant,” and I’m pretty sure I responded last time you asked too. Ha! As for pasta, I think I say past-a. I can’t even figure out how p-au-sta would actually should. So who really knows…
i say aunt like ant too!
i love these so much fun!
happy tuesday!
“ant” and “paus-ta” I love reading people answers to these!
I say it like “ant” and “pah-sta”. So a mix of the A pronunciation
I used to think the “haunt” version was a northern thing! Lol
I say “aunt”, the same as “ant”, and pasta like “past-uh.”
