Bet you didn’t know

This morning I was wiping the sweat off my face with a towel after getting in from my run and *rip* – out came my nose stud.

I have had my nose pierced since I was 14 (8 years!!) so it feels like a part of me. At first I thought “meh, guess it was going to have to come out at some point.” But then I looked in the mirror and I looked funny without it so I shoved it back in.

Now, that hurt!

Anyways, this whole incident reminded me that I’ve been meaning to write a blog post about another piercing I used to have.

My tongue:

01140008.JPG

Yup, I got my tongue pierced the summer after high school. This picture was taken the day after I got it done!

That was painful. I have two tattoo’s, my nose pierced and my bellybutton pierced but nothing hurt as bad as getting my tongue pierced. I had that piercing in for about 8 months when I got a little bump under the ball and it started to hurt to eat and talk. I finally just took it out because the pain wasn’t worth it and it had grown over within a few hours.

So that is one thing I bet you didn’t know about me :D

What kinds of piercings do you have (or USED to have)?

  1. Ha, that is funny! The girl that lived next door to me freshman year got her tongue pierced and I remember it being VERY painful for her!

I have no tattoos and I only have my ears pierced! I have never been very into piercings or things of that nature. I even kind of wish my ears weren’t pierced!!

  2. the tongue piercing totally freaked me out…i never could bring myself to do it! i do have both ears pierced twice, my nose, my naval, and my cartilage on my left ear though :)

  3. I have contemplated different tattoos at different times but I haven’t ever found anything yet that I want forever. I just hae my ears pierced and I can’t even imagine piercing my tongue cuz owwwwwwwwwwwwie. I never really wanted to pierce my nose either because of how much snottage I get hahah. And my stomach has NEVER been flat so I wouldn’t look cute with a piercing there. Maybe if by some miracle, I birth this child and some day have a flat stomach again, I would do that haha. ;)

I have my nose pierced still from high school. I love it! I used to have my belly button pierced and same with my inner part of my ear. I don’t have any tattoos either…the pain scares me too much!

i used to have a labret piercing — til my mom saw it and FREAKED out. I was in college, mind you, she wouldn’t let me in the house unless i removed it. and needless to say it closed pretty quickly. Then I got my tongue pierced like a few months later, HID it from them for like 6 months. my mom was ok with that. and I still have it – yes — 11 years later, i still have it! I’ve tried taking it out, but every time i do, it feels too bizarre without it.

I do have a tattoo on my lower back – it’s the chinese symbol for love and lust.

Oh wow, I can’t imagine how painful it would be to get your tongue pierced! I only have my ears pierces (two holes in each ear), and I have one tattoo on my neck and the big mess that is my back piece right now… I hopefully can get it turned into something nice next year! I also really want to get another favourite line of text, but I don’t quite know where to put it :)

  7. Leanne says:

Eeep. I had my tongue pierced, and it didn’t hurt at all! I have my nose pierced too.

    • MissAmber says:

In hindsight, I think it was more the 2-3 days AFTER getting it pierced that hurt. My tongue swelled up SO HUGE and I could barely talk or eat. It was not a fun experience for me!

  8. Lauren says:

I just have my ears pierced. I really wanted my bellybutton done when I was like 15, but my mom said no. I’m kinda glad that she said no now though.

  9. Nora says:

I accidentally ripped mine out two weeks after I had it pierced. Holy crap did that hurt! I went to the piercer and they took care of it, but my oh my, a pain I hope I never have to experience again. I still have all the same piercings… three in each year, naval ring & now the nose ring!

Had NO clue you had a tongue piercing though. Too funny.

Am I the only one a little freaked out by the sentence “…and it had grown over within a few hours.”? I always wanted a tattoo and piercings but then by the time I got to the age where I could make that decision on my own, the feeling passed – guess it was OK that my parents said – No, not until you can do so without parental permission.

    • MissAmber says:

Hahaha your tongue heals the fastest – tongue piercings are known to grow over within a day at the longest!

  11. LG says:

Bellybutton when I was 18 – snuck off to Calgary and had it done. I STILL don’t think my parents know! But it always seemed to get infected so I took it out.

  12. Morgan says:

Ouch! I know all too well how bad that can hurt! I had my nose pierced for awhile in college and I miss it so much but unfortunately needed to take it out when I got my first big girl job. :( Boo!!!! I still have my belly button pierced though, just a little one with an eyebrow stud in it.

  13. Becky says:

    My reactions to this post:
    1) “…and *rip* – out came my nose stud.” OMG that sounds so horrible I might pass out just reading that. I hope she doesn’t tell us there was blood.
    2) “But then I looked in the mirror and I looked funny without it so I shoved it back in.” OMG she put it back in! I think I’m going to throw up.
    3) I glossed over the whole tongue part – I mean, I’m already feeling woozy!
    4) How did I not know you have two tattoos?!

I’ve only ever had my ears pierced – a few times actually because I am prone to keloids. I love wearing dangly earrings but I haven’t had my ears pierced since a few months after I got married – sadly, I just don’t think it’s meant to be.

  14. Nicole says:

I have two tattoos, nine ear piercings (I had ten but one healed over), and I used to have my nose pierced. But after my mom kept telling me it looked like I was picking my nose when I played with it, I took it out; I only had it for a month or two and I only have one picture of me with it. Kinda sad. I want more tattoos, but my husband isn’t a fan of them (and I’m still nursing) so I’m gonna have to work on him before I get any more.

My mom always threatened me that if I got my tongue pierced she wouldn’t pay for any of my college, so that never appealed to me. Plus, I have had enough jaw and teeth problems to never want to mess that up with a piercing in that area.

  15. Wow, that sounds terrible!

I can’t have tattoos because I have issues with commitment. And I don’t have any piercings in unusual places because I have issues with pain. But I did get my ears re-pierced 4 times because I have issues with taking my earrings out for sports and then forgetting to put them back in.

I feel like i know LOTS about you, this is one thing I DID NOT KNOW!!!!
    You rebel..xox

  17. Amber says:

I have my ears pierced and I have had my belly button pierced but that is it! No tattoos or anything else! I’m a big weenie about pain which is the main reason why I haven’t done anything. I’m a wimp!

  18. Kara says:

I used to have my tongue pierced too, but took it out right before I started J-School because I figured it would be more professional, lol. I also used to have a couple of more “risqué” piercings too, which shall be left to the imagination! ;)

  19. Ooohh… I had my tongue pierced the last day of college my freshman year. Probably not my best decision, but I loved it for two years…

  20. Caroline says:

Soooo I just got my ears pierced like 4 years ago, right before I went away to college. It wasn’t because I was scared before or didn’t want it, but I played sports 365 days a year and literally never had a time to get them pierced where I could leave them in for however long you need to. Since then, I haven’t done anything else because 1. I have trouble taking care of just my earrings, and 2. I’m the most indecisive person ever and would probably love a piercing/tattoo one day and hate it the next.

  21. Megan says:

I don’t have any tattoos (yet), and I only have my ears pierced, though I rarely wear earrings. I did get my bellybutton pierced when I was eighteen, and I kept it in for a few months. Any time I held my toddler cousin, though, it would get snagged, so I ended up just taking it out for good. I miss it sometimes, though!

  22. Rachael says:

Ouch! That has happened to me many times, I have had my nose done 3 times – the first time it got infected, the second time it fell out as I was vomiting and I couldn’t find it, and the third time I had to take it out for a volunteering trip where it wasn’t appropriate :(
I had my navel pierced this past spring but it got horrribly infected so I had to take it out after a few weeks, my stomach is far from flat so it’s probably for the best…and I also used to have my tounge web pierced (the bit of skin that joins your tongue to the bottom of your mouth)! AND I have 3 tattoos, 4 holes in one ear and 3 in the other. But that’s it :)

  23. I was always way too scared to get my tongue pierced. I talk so much, that sucker would never heal! :)

I did have my nipple pierced about 5 years ago (TMI?). I dont know why I did it – it hurt all the way to my toes to get done. I dont recommend it!

  24. steph anne says:

Of course I didn’t know that! :) I got my bellybutton pierced when I was 16 after convincing my parents that I needed to have one. I took it out after my freshman year of college because I didn’t feel the need for having one anymore. Then I got my nose pierced and that only lasted 3 years, I think. I had to get a MRI before my cochlear implant surgery and so once my nose stud came out…it never went back in. :( I have 2 piercings on each ear….don’t use the 2nd ones anymore. I also have 2 tattoos and I think I’m done in both departments, lol.

  25. Sarah says:

Really? Your tongue hurt? It shouldn’t …. yeah it swells but the actual piercing shouldn’t. Weird.

I have five tattoos & used to have my eyebrow, monroe, and nose pierced. I still have my upper ear, lobes, and tongue.

    • MissAmber says:

The piercing hurt, but it wasn’t super painful, but my tongue was SORE for at least 2 days after and I remember it being incredibly painful to eat!

  26. Kyla Roma says:

I can’t believe that you had your tongue pierced!! I always wanted to have that and never got it :)

I have both sides of my nose pierced, and I used to have my belly button pierced and my ears stretched- I’m currently making my ears bigger again since after 3+ years they never closed up! I have two tattoos, and I’m going to have more soon :)

  27. Jess says:

I have my nose pierced too. And, I love it!! I found it hurt quite a bit to get it though and my eyes watered like crazy.

A few years ago, I somehow ripped it out as I was sleeping and by the time I went to put it back in when I woke up, the hole had already closed back up. I tried to get it back in there myself (not fun!) but couldn’t manage, so I went to the local piercing place and they tried too. After a lot of pain, they decided to just re-pierce it, which was not a pretty horrible experience. But, I’m happy to have it, despite all that.

  28. Haha…that’s funny. Ouch. I can imagine the pain bc I’ve had to shove a few earings through partial holes/skin in my ears and it hurts pretty bad.

I had my upper left ear pierced (and let it grow over). I have two holes on each ear for earings and then my belly button. No tats for me.

  29. Sarah says:

WOW!! I sooo did not know that – any of it. lol. I’ve only got my ears pierced. And just the once. I’ve always wanted to get another piercing in the top of my ear and to get my nose done too. I just can’t be bothered.
In all honesty, I’ve never seen the appeal of a tongue or nipple piercings. Although a relative of mine once said that she thought nipple piercings were handy for women of a certain age – she said that when your breasts start to sag you could tie a pice of string on both nipple rings and put it (the string, of course) behind your neck. Instant lift. :D
What are your tattos of? How comes they never show up in any of your pics? Is that deliberate?

  30. nicole says:

i have two holes in both ears but want a running tattoo on my foot!!

  31. I used to babysit my dentist’s kids and he made me SWEAR never to get my tongue pierced because he said that it really damages you teeth.

I have 6 piercings though: 2 in each ear lobe, my right nostril and my right upper ear. I really only wear the nose and the upper ear part, and occasionally the main holes in my earlobe when I’m going out. I’m not even sure the 2nd holes are still open! (though I’m sure they are, they are just painful to wear now).

I didn’t know you had tattoos?!

  32. eemusings says:

    wow, long hair!

Did not realise you had any tats! I can’t think of anything I’d ever want permanently stencilled onto me, so no tattoos over here.

Had my ears pierced briefly when I was about 6, and don’t think I’ll ever bother to get them redone. I’m just too lazy. Even putting on a necklace in the morning is too much work.

  33. Kelly says:

I have my ears double pierced and my belly button pierced. The belly button didn’t hurt too much except that I stupidly had to go to hockey right after and you know how the pants come up over your belly button so that kind of hurt. I still have it though, can’t imagine my tummy without it anymore haha.

I actually considered getting my nose pierced for a few days while I was in Australia but then I realized that would be frowned upon in some teaching situations (and I was doing a 1 day per week student teaching even while I was there) so I never did it. I’ve considered tattoos too but I kind of think the age has passed for me on that. I leave it to Eric now :)

  34. Kelly says:

ps. I still love you but I kind of hate tongue piercings. haha

  35. Stephany says:

During my freshman year of high school, I had a friend who had a tongue piercing and it looked SO COOL that I totally wanted one. Then I was standing in line for a roller coaster and these girls were telling HORROR STORIES about getting their tongues pierced. I am convinced my mom had them planted there. ;) I didn’t bring it up again.

I’ve always wanted my nose pierced but don’t like to draw undue attention to my nose since it’s rather large. Hehe. No tattoos, either. Not sure I’ll ever get any. Maybe a Bible verse someday but that’s a long shot.

The only piercings I’ve ever had were my ears. I had them pierced when I was 4 but they closed up, so I got them pierced again on my 12th birthday. But my ears are super, super sensitive so I have to wear “real” jewelry. (Like real silver, diamonds, etc) so that’s not happening anytime soon, ha. To be honest, I’m just not too much of a jewelry person so it doesn’t bother me. Earrings always irritated me, anyway. :)

  36. Carissa says:

you wild child, you! haha. no crazy piercings here. just one in each ear. I know, I know, boring. I do have a tattoo. that’s about it for my exciting body art :)

but yeah, I BET that tongue piercing hurt! ow ow ow! I could never do that. but that’s amazing that it healed in hours. kind of creepy too. haha.

  37. Vanessa says:

I have 7 piercings in my ears and one in my nose. I used to have an eyebrow piercing but it got badly infected years ago so I just took it out and let it heal over.

I got screwed over by the tattoo artist who was supposed to ink me when I was 18, and I just never got around to having it done elsewhere. I know exactly what I want, it’s just a matter of making the time to go get it! :P

  38. I have three holes in my ears, two on the lobes and one cartilage piercing. I actually need to buy myself some earrings though as I’m worried the top two holes will end up closing up.

  39. shoshanah says:

I only have my ears pierced. I used to really want my belly button pierced, but my mom hated the idea so I never did. Now, I don’t think I would have regretted getting in done, but it’s not something I still want.

  40. Antonia says:

Ouch, it must have hurt so much! I don’t like tongue piercings, but please don’t take it personal=)

  41. lindsay says:

i was not that spunky – i just had the upper-ear-cartiledge done. whatever that’s called. also i didn’t know you were only 22! (if i’m doing the math right, haha)

  42. I just have my ears pierced. My hubby actually has more holes in his ears than I do!

  43. Amanda says:

Just ears, and I’ve had those pierced three different times but it just didn’t work out. I was prone to constant infections and my piercings would never heal, even years after they were done (if I took them out for a day, they’d close up). Now I’m thinking it may have been a nickel allergy? I’m considering pierced ears, round 4, but after all that hassle I’m not even considering trying another body part.

Would love a small tattoo though! Maybe some day, when I find a design that really means something to me.

  44. Ashley says:

I just have my ears pierced, but I have several in each year. I am considering a tattoo eventually.

  45. I totally forgot that you had your tounge pierced!!!

And owch… I hate it when I’m wiping my face with a cloth and then YANK on my nose ring. I have also had mine for so long and I think it would just look weird without it. The little hole there?! I just don’t know about that.

  46. sarahdotcom says:

Haha, I had my tongue pierced for a while too. Got it done on Boxing Day when I was 15 in a little bit of a rebellion. Wound up showing my mom at a Christmas dinner that evening and it didn’t go over tooooo well. Both my parents tried so hard to get me to take it out, but a good jaw clench came in pretty handy :)

Kept it for a few years until I had my appendix taken out. Had to take it out for the surgery, and by the time I was back awake & alert, the hole had completely closed over. Was fun while it lasted though. Funny you say it hurt so much – my piercing didn’t hurt at all, and my tongue, luckily, was never really swollen after the fact. Which was good. Because it was Christmas time and I had a lot of food to devour :)

  47. Jess says:

OUUUCHHHH!!!! I can’t believe you ripped your nose ring out and managed to put it back in….ouchies!!!

  48. Jess says:

I have a tattoo of a puzzle piece on my foot and my ears and eyebrow pierced. I think I’m going to be taking my eyebrow piercing out soon though…
