A Sprained Thumb and a Vegetarian Dinner

I bit the bullet and bought Ecto last night after spending 45 minutes working on this post only to have Firefox crash and lose the whole thing. Lovely.

Moving on.

Last night at Hot Yoga I sprained my thumb attempting to get into the following pose.

toe stand.jpg toe-stand-lean forward.gif

When I leaned forward like in the bottom picture to get into top pose I kind of fell forward onto my left hand and my thumb twisted funny and made a terrible cracking noise. It really hurt!

I don’t think it’s broken because I can still move it around and bend it. It’s just a little sore.

My mood was picked up when I got home from a long day of work + yoga last night to discover that Eric had done the dishes and made an awesome, vegetarian dinner. I guess he was intrigued by the cookbook my mom sent down because he made the meal that’s on the cover!

Plus I had another piece of garlic toast after!

I haven’t ate meat for 2.5 months now, and I’ve had seafood maybe 5-6 times. I don’t miss it at all and I’m not just saying that! Eric isn’t really eating meat either. If we go out to eat somewhere he might order some, but we don’t buy it and we eat strictly vegetarian at home! It’s kind of fun :)

After dinner I relaxed on the couch with Eric and had a glass of wine. I kind of wanted to work on some freelance articles but I have been working A LOT lately and needed a night of relaxation. Having Eric down here has helped me balance out. Before he got here I would spend all day at work on the computer and then all night on the computer at home – both doing more work and blogging/twittering/emailing etc. Now that he’s back down I spend a lot more time reading and relaxing at night.

A huge event that I’ve been putting tons and tons of hours over the last few weeks is happening today! Kind of interesting to see something that you (and tons of other people) have worked so hard on actually happen! All that work for one day. Last week I spent 22 hours working on a 10-minute audio production. Yikes!

Are you a workaholic or do you find it easy to relax at night?

I’m usually awake at 5am to go to work, and I don’t get any time in the morning to relax. I’m home by 3pm most days, but I go straight to doing things on the computer (reading blogs I couldn’t read at work, watching videos, whatever) to cooking dinner to showering to getting into bed around 9pm or 10pm. I might watch a little tv in between. It’s not really what I’d like to call “relaxation,” though. I need to spend more time unplugging and reading, doing yoga, running, biking, enjoying the outdoors, etc…

I am definitely a workaholic- I think a lot of teachers are, but I’ve improved a lot over the last few years I think and I don’t consider blogging or reading blogs part of my work so thats a big relaxation thing for me :) I can imagine having Eric around would help you a lot because if I lived alone I would definitely do work a lot more often too. Very impressed you are both eating vegetarian at home. I could never, and I mean NEVER convince Eric to even consider that haha.

That meal looks awesome…definitely would love to come home to that! It’s great that you’ve been able to change to the vegetarian path. I’d like to get to that point and was a vegetarian for 5-6 years, but was really unhealthy about it when I was. I’m slowly going more towards that side again but haven’t cut out all meat and poultry.

I sometimes take work home with me mentally and can’t relax or sleep. It sucks, really.

That paella dish looks yummy!

That meal looks intense! :)
These days I’m definitely a workaholic, and while it’s fun I’m looking forward to getting more balance in my life soon.

I definitely recognized my issue with being on the computer- pretty much all day. I’m trying to cut back! Although here I am… ‘putering it up before work… ugh!

That meal Eric made looks fabulous! And I’m glad that you were able to relax for an evening. I’m not a work a holic at all. In the summer I would much rather be outside so by the time 5:00 rolls around I’m done. I even have a hard time being at the computer to blog, write emails, etc. in the summer. I’m actually much more productive when its cold out.

Ah! So sorry about the thumb but hooray for thoughtful boyfriends who make yummy look dinners =) I think I’m going to make September 1st my vegetarian adventure, so any tips/tricks for me, send ‘em my way!

I have trouble relaxing at night, especially lately. I constantly feel on edge and it’s not fun. not sure what is going on with me but it has to stop soon, right!?

Sorry to hear about your thumb – it sounds like you might have sprained it, but hopefully it will feel better asap!

That pose looks hard!

Wow- well done, Eric. That meal looks amazing. It must have been amazing to walk into your apt and have dinner ready! I might have cried if I was you. Then again, doesn’t take much to make me cry lately. I am blaming the fact that I am exhausted from running and not sleepign well.

I can’t bring work home since I work in a industry where customer privacy is uber important, so when I leave work, I really truly LEAVE work. Unlike at my last nightmare job where I would usually log on in the evening and go thru email or work on excel models or something ‘thrilling’ like that.

I dno’t consider myself a workaholic, though. I think I just have too many other things goign on that prevents me from being a workaholic. And my nightmare job taught me that there is more to life than work… funny thing is that I always thought I would be a workaholic, but I just don’t have it in me…

Boo to hurting your thumb! Hopefully it heals quickly. But a big yah to Eric making you dinner! That is the best thing….nothing beats walking in to dinner already started or completed.

When I leave work, I leave work…except sometimes I have dreams about ringing up groceries. That’s annoying. Depending on my mood though, either before or after work I will spend my free time writing or blogging which I suppose could be considered work.

Wow, I’m impressed with Eric’s cooking skills! What’s in that dish? Looks pretty interesting! SOrry you sprained your thumb. That does look like a tricky pose.

I find it easy to relax at night. What helps is a glass or two of wine!! hahaha

Hope your thumb feels better soon! The stuff I do at the office I can definitely leave there, but (as you know) I’m trying to get into some more free-lance type stuff so between that and the blog I spend a lot of time on the computer at home as well. I have a laptop but I’ve cleared off my desk and am trying to implement do “work” there and not sitting on the couch next to the mister half paying attention to him, the laptop, and the movie we’re watching.

I’m typically a workaholic, though I can transition from my desk job to my other projects with relative ease. And because I enjoy everything I do, it’s typically relaxing for me, anyway. :-D

Yikes! Hope your thumb is a-ok soon.

I am definitely a workaholic. I put in 6 days a week at the brewery, and when I’m at home I spend a lot of time thinking about what I could do at work. I never feel stressed out about it though…I’m good at what I do, and it’s a great environment.

Ouch, hope your thumb is okay!
I’d say I’m usually a workaholic, especially lately I just can’t seem to relax at night it’s always about what I have to do next.

Huge props to Eric and his successful cooking! :) hope the thumb heals okay – yeouch!

I can easily slip into the “workaholic” mode, but D balances that out for me, too. I’d much rather spend time with him – reading, biking, walking to get froyo, etc – than sit at the comp all night!

Since I’m a student, I find that it’s really hard to balance all parts of my life. I always feel like there is a deadline or paper hanging over my head. I can’t wait to go back to the working world since I seem to strike a balance between work and play a lot better when I have a job.

I’m totally a workaholic ~ I can’t sit down until everything on my to-do list is done! Which is why I don’t have a 100 things in 1000 days list or anything of the sort :D “Relax” isn’t really in my vocabulary …

Awww, you’re making me miss Bikram yoga. Well, minus the whole injury thing. Man, I hope your thumb heals soon.

Have you heard of the Moosewood Cookbook? Every vegetarian I know has this book as part of their library!

That yoga pose looks freaky! I know it would take me months to succeed at!

I’m definitely someone who finds it easy to wind down at home. I leave the work stuff at work and just focus on me time when I’m at home.

gosh, yoga can be so brutal. That pose is insane.. haha i struggle enough with “tree” pose.

I don’t know the first thing about yoga, but I DO know this: I’d fall flat on my damn face if I attempted to get into that position. A sprained thumb is better than a broken nose. :)

That pose is tough…sometimes I can make it, the other 70 per cent of the time it feels like my my hip joint is going to get dislocated (well, not that bad, but it’s uncomfortable.)

That dish looks so good – I love the eggs on top!! I need to get that cookbook, because I want to incorporate a lot more veggie meals into my meal plans.
