It’s been awhile since I did a Friday Five post and I know my IRL friend Tammy (Hi Tam!) enjoys them so here we go.
One.
I was talking to my friend Tiffany on Facebook yesterday and she was telling me about her latest dating escapades etc. and then she said, “So, what’s new with you?” and I was kind of at a loss because nothing is really new. At all. I work, I run, I blog/read blogs and I do my freelance work. Oddly enough, it’s kind of nice not to have anything “new” going on right now. I’m still very busy, but overall life is good!
Two.
So remember how I wanted to lose weight? Well about three weeks ago I started calorie counting again on Spark People and whaddya know, I’m losing weight. I guess I *still* have not mastered intuitive eating. Will I ever? Sigh. But it’s working, I’m down 4 pounds in about 3 weeks.
Three.
I am so ready for Eric to be here already. Remember how I wanted to be independent and single and live alone? Ya, I’m over that. Not that I didn’t enjoy doing those things and think that it was a really important experience for me to spend the last year living alone, but now I’m done with it. 11 more sleeps, 11 more sleeps, 11 more sleeps…
Four.
Who else is watching Big Brother 12? Anyone? I remember last summer when I was obsessed with it there were barely any other fans. Boo to that. Big Brother is the one reality TV show I enjoy. Bachelor/Bachelorette? PLEASE, so fake and stupid. Survivor? Ditto. I don’t really care for all the drama/plotting on Big Brother but the competitions they have are hilarious. HILARIOUS. I still haven’t decided who I like this season, but I’m leaning towards Ragan, Matt and Brittany.
Five.
I’m currently almost done American Wife. After the blogger book club read it a couple of months ago and all blogged about it I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it but my library only had the audio version. So Becky was super sweet and mailed me her copy! I will do a full post on it next week, but it’s seriously SO GOOD. Like, one-of-the-best-books-I’ve-ever-read good. I am very sad that I’m almost done.
What are your Friday Five this week?

Congratulations on losing weight! My five:
1) It is the last ‘workday’ of my vacation and I was up at 4 AM to go running. I’m a little crazy.
2) I wish Panera delivered.
3) I’ve been watching videos we took of my niece since we got home - she’s just so freakin’ adorable!
4) I’m ready to move out of this apartment (too bad our lease isn’t up ’till February)
5) I got nothing. It’s 6 AM and I’m icing my knee?
Congrats on losing 4 lbs! I have tried to master intuitive eating but it all goes out the door when delicious food enters the room. Sorta sad eh?
I really enjoyed American Wife as well, one of the best books I’ve ever read. It couldn’t put it down!
Great job on losing weight! I love spark people. I use that when I am not paying for Weight watchers.
Ugh, seriously? Matt? Ragan??
As long as you never like Rachel or Brenda. Or Hayden, gross.
I love that you’re counting down the days to Eric coming home, I love that you guys are doing this.
I’m sleepy, so here’s my friday four
1. I’m married to my planner these days, it’s helping to keep me sane.
2. I’ve fallen off the working out wagon & I’m not sure how to get back on and stay on for more than a week!
3. I’m determined to learn to crochet this weekend
4. I’m not sure that I’m going to be able to read My Life In France without eating the whole time I’m reading.
Ooooh, a Friday Five? Let’s see if my brain juices are awake enough to come up with all 5!
1. I’m getting together with some of my husband’s childhood friends tonight, without him. This is a first. And I’m kind of excited.
2. Sweets and I are going to see the Freddy Jones Band on Saturday night. I feel like I’ve heard their name forever (and listened to their music just as long), but they never made it big if they’re still playing at local street festivals.
3. I am in such deep need of a vacation, it’s not even funny. Thank goodness, we’re leaving for Maine and Cape Cod next week!
4. I haven’t watched Big Brother in years, though I do remember liking it. However, I used to never watch Survivor and now I’m kind of into it. Go figure.
5. Lately, I’ve been craving a cold glass of beer. Sometimes, being pregnant really sucks. Sigh.
Happy weekend!
I love when I grow so attached to a book that I don’t want to put it down. You want to find out the ending, but it’s almost as if you can just save that last chapter because you don’t want to separate yourself from the character. I’m like that with specific movies, too.
1. I need a vacation. I mean, I know we went to Asheville just a little over a month ago (okay, has it really been THAT long already?!), but I’m seriously looking forward to going to Florida August 16-20 to visit family. BEYOND EXCITED. I haven’t seen them since January, so I miss them.
2. I’m so glad today is Friday. This week went by so slow, it seems. It’s almost the weekend!
3. I really need to start running/riding my bike. I keep putting it off because it’s usually around 100 F when I get home, and that’s just way too hot. But I need to do SOMETHING instead of sitting on the couch and watching tv.
4. Though I’m still getting used to my sister living with us, I like the fact that it motivates me to cook dinner. When it was just us, we slacked off and cooked dinner really late or ordered food. Now, we’ve cooked nearly every night for the past week!
5. I’m kind of looking forward to January. I think we may move back to Chattanooga, TN around that time if everything plays out.
High five!
I don’t know why but I had the urge to say that.
Anywayyyss.. congrats on losing weight! I don’t quite have the intuitive eating down yet either, I don’t think I ever will. I think intuitive eating requires a very special kind of person haha. And I totally agree with you on being content that nothing is new. I’ve felt like that pretty consistently for a couple of years now and I’m really not complaining : )
Congrats!!
My five would be…
1. I have never voluntarily been so sleep deprived in my life, but theatre > unconsciousness
2. I’m hoping also after this week I don’t develop a caffeine addiction and go into withdrawal
3. I’m excited/nervous about the Wedding competition ending on Tuesday and having to wait a whole week before they announce the result
4. I can’t believe how incredible the blogging community is with their support of the above
5. Tonight I’m doing a recording for my first radio play!
Happy almost weekend!
I hate the “what’s new?” question. Because really, unless you want to know the ins and outs of every mile I’ve ran over the last week, I haven’t got much to offer. Plus, a lot of times, eyes start to roll back in boredom if I discuss the blog or healthy living community… Clearly I’ve found an outlet for an interest that I share with very few of my friends. ha ha
I am so glad that you are liking American Wife! Are you reading The Secret Garden next for this month’s book club? I am posting in a little bit about suggestions for August’s group read. Hopefully you can partcipate!
Friday 1
-We are putting a fence in our backyard and our pool up this weekend!!! So excited. Now if the rain would stay away
congrats on the weight loss - im going to have to try that site. I’ve been writing in a food log lately as i’m trying to lose a few l-b’s myself so hopefully this helps!
I am so glad that Eric will be with you again soon! And congrats on the weightloss!
My Friday five…
1. I have absolutely no plans at all this weekend — no where to go, no one I plan on seeing, etc. I’m actually very excited about it.
2. I plan to kick off my weekend by sitting outside and drinking wine or beer, or maybe both.
3. I am in desperate need of a change — scenery, job, maybe even a hair style.
4. Like you, I don’t really have anything new, which is sometimes frustrating for me.
5. I’m going to see the play WICKED (the musical) in a few weeks and I cannot wait. Its been over a year since I’ve it and its by far, my favorite.
I’m not sure how I feel about this seasons BB… I’m going to keep watching because they usually tend to get better towards the end of the season but some of the houseguests just make me want to scream! I’m kind of glad Monet is gone, but at the same time I felt bad for her.
Congrats on losing the 4 pounds! That’s awesome! I’m stuck at losing my last five pounds and it just won’t come off. Gr!
My Friday Five:
1) my mom is coming into town this weekend for my stagette and bridal shower. So excited that I get to see her basically every two weeks for the past little while!
2) I am excited for my stagette tomorrow night…it’s not going to be big, but I have no idea what my bridesmaid has planned.
3) It’s raining yet again here and I am ready for some sunny and warm summer weather!
4) I really want to buy a road bike, but can’t find one short enough for me. Yes, I am that short.
5) It’s Friday!!! Hope you have a great weekend!
Hi Amber! My name is Stephanie and I randomly found your site (I sincerely don’t even remember how it happened) but I’ve been reading for about two weeks now. When I visited your webpage during my daily morning webpage crawl (I have a system), I couldn’t believe that you also had a Friday Five! I also write for a blog, TTDTU.com, and I’ve mentioned you a few times - today especially. Just felt the need to share!
Happy Friday!
- Stephanie
If you’re “Sad” you’re almost done, that’s definitely the sign of a GREAT read!
Might have to pick taht one up, I’ve heard good things!
Congrats on #2 - whatever works, works
Clearly you’re doing something right!
Oh my god, Oh my god, Oh my god. BIG BROTHER. Best reality tv show, hands down
Britney KILLS me. Yes, she’s cliquey and all, but her one liners with Monet/in the diary room have been highlights of the show so far. “She’s a SCIENTIST, Monet.” and “I am so going to miss sitting in the backyard and talking with you about how high-waisted Kristen’s pants are, and how skanky Rachel is dressing every day, and how annoying her laugh is, and all of the things we could do with her hair extensions.” Haha. Overall I really like the Brigade, though I don’t think anyone will ever compare to the classics - Dr. Will, Mike Boogie, Dick & Daniele, etc.
So glad calorie counting is working for you; I’m not gaining any weight right now which is good. I just need to lose, lose, lose.
i’m so excited that you and Eric will be living together again
You two are quite possibly one of my favorite couples ever.
Congrats on the loss!!!! I am watching big brother, and I like them all, except Britney. Big Brother is the BEST reality show, but the best season was season 2 - the original season with Will and Boogie!!
My Friday 5:
1) Today is my 6 year wedding anniversary.
2) We bought a new car today. A Mazda 5. White.
3) I am itching to travel, and I wish my hubby got more holiday time. Also, I wish everyone had the summer off - I want people to do things with!
4) Is it weird that I have the urge to start Christmas shopping? And start my Christmas cards?
5) I am hungry. And I just ate.
I love my some Big Brother, but I’ve found this season a little dull in comparison to others. I want something crazy to happen to spice it up. I still don’t have favorites either. I liked Kristen for 2.5 seconds, but she’s realllly never on the show and is boring too. This season I feel like the people are especially dumb.
glad it’s working for you!
YEAH!!! I love Friday Fives!!!!!! It only took me about 3 minutes to figure out what ‘IRL’ meant! hahah!!
Thanks Amber!
Huge congrats on your weight loss!
AND OMG…. 11 more SLEEPS TILL ERIC!!! YEAH!!! <3
My Friday Five is:
1 - My dear friend Chelsea is here visiting from Red Deer and we are BBQing tonight!
2 - I gained 2 lbs in the last week (we are doing a biggest looser challenge at work) but I have my period so that is my excuse
3 - 9 more sleeps till Kris is home for a week, he has already been gone 3 weeks, can’t wait.
4 - I started reading In a Pit with a Lion on a snowy day, its a religious book and I really enjoy the story behind it, about Chasing lions in our own live and going for what we want. Great read.
5 - I am really looking forward to hanging out with Suzy tomorrow, we are going to sit in the hot tub, watch the football game (yes I watch football now… living in Sask its all people talk about! I will send you a pic of our ‘twin towers’ with Rider Pride) and also watching people fix her fence. It should be just what this body needs!
Have a super duper weekend Amber!!!
PS. See you in 34 days!!!!
Yay for losing weight, even if you do have to count calories to do it. My mom still has to write down every single thing she eats and be accountable for it to lose weight. It’s been 2 years since she hit goal and she also wonders if she’ll ever be able to eat intuitively. Me? I know I’ll be tracking for the rest of my life.
My Friday 5 will all be related to Big Brother. Tehehe.
1. Britney is quite possibly my favorite player ever. She is hilarious with all her comments. “Monet, she is a scientist.” But I think she has a really sweet heart and isn’t annoying in the least. I feel awful that her one ally is gone now. BOO!
2. I cannot stand Rachel, Brendan, Hayden, and Kristen. They all need to leave. Immediately.
3. I have a crush on Lane.
4. I know who won the HOH competition, because I checked the message boards. I’M BAD, I KNOW!!!
5. After last week, I’m not sure about Matt. I think it’s pretty disgusting that he told a lie about his wife & he’s getting less and less cute every day. I hope he redeems himself soon. Because he used to be my favorite.
OK…I could seriously make this a Friday Ten with all my thoughts. If you ever want to talk about the show, I’m your girl!
For the first 5 seasons or so Big Brother was my favorite summer show, but I haven’t been able to get into it all in recent years.
Ooh, I want to read the american wife too! It’s on my waiting list at the library. Congrats on the weight loss! It always feels good to actually see a change when you’re putting in so much effort!
Friday five…
1. i’m feeling a tickle in my throat like it might be sore tomorrow morning (crossing fingers and consuming vitamin c like its my job)
2. nothing new is kind of nice, i agree
3. i really want to go get some great harvest (locally made) bread. some honey wheat and something bad for me.
4. The sun’s out and i’m wearing a poofy skirt. Therefore, I don’t want to be at work.
5. I’m thinking of skipping my workout tonight. I do not NEED to workout even though my brain says I do.
American Wife was definitely one of my favorite books ever too. I’m glad you are enjoying it. I can’t seem to get into books quite as much since reading that haha, which isn’t good.
Let’s see if I can come up with 5.
1. I’m currently sitting a hotel lobby because I can’t check in til 3 and it’s 1:42. Boo.
2. I was going to do 2-5 but Eric now wants us to go do something. So I must go. Have an awesome weekend!
Congrats on losing weight!!!
I’m going to start calorie counting too!
LOL, your number one is my number one ALWAYS. Nothing is ever new with me!
Congrats on losing weight!
And American Wife is one of my faves, too. If you’re looking for a new book to read, I suggest Memoirs of a Geisha or The Other Boleyn Girl.
I loved American Wife too! I didn’t think I was going to as I really didn’t care for Sittenfeld’s second book after Prep, but I’m glad I took the chance on it.
Congrats on the lbs lost!!! I’m trying to get there myself… Along the way I sort of “forgot” that I still had 20 lbs to lose… I need to start squeezing in as much exercise everywhere as I can! On Tuesday I’m going to bike to work, do some weights at the gym and shower there, and bike home at the end of the day
On the topic of American Wife, I’ve been very reluctant to read it, even though everyone on the blog world loves it… Is it really good??? I guess I’ll have to read your post about it
I’m getting the new iPhone when it comes out and I’m hoping it’ll allow me to read more blogs - and comment more! I miss yours!!
I was on Sparkpeople for a long time and lately I’ve been off for a while. I’m trying to judge calories and portion sizes manually but I need to get back on it. I just need to be better about logging, for some reason I’m just…NOT
i left an award for you over at my blog - check it out
Oh, I totally know what you mean about being at a loss when asked “what’s new.” Feels like it’s always the same ol / same ol! But yeah, you’re right — maybe that’s not a bad thing!
Can’t wait to read your review of “American Wife”!
Congrats on losing 4 lbs! I tried SparkPeople once and it was really addictive! That reminds me that I really need to get to the gym. Hopefully this week!
I want to read that book!
I certainly think being aware of calories is important to losing weight. And after awhile you don’t have to count as much because the amounts and foods that work become second nature. The most important thing is to not get obsessive.
I am glad that you are enjoying American Wife. I too think it is one of the best books i have read - at least this year! It gobbled it up, it was so so good!!
I have nothing new to share, either… Well, for the most part.
You know what I am alluding to when I Say that, though! Other than that, all I do is sleep, work, eat, and run. And I know those 4 things are not interesting to other people. Except running - I can always talk running with you. And eating, too.
