Straight or Curly?

in giveaway, workplace fashion

What you may not know about me, is that my hair is not naturally straight. At all. In fact, I straighten my hair almost every day!

When I had long hair, all it took was a bit of mousse and some scrunching with the blowdryer and voila: Curls.

100_0574

But that was also when my hair was long. Now that my hair is short, it doesn’t do the nice wavy curls like that. Nope. It flips out in every direction. So I straighten it. Almost everyday.

profpicopenmouth

So, when John from Misikko contacted me and asked me if I wanted to test out one of their straighteners: The Hana Professional Flat Iron. I jumped at the chance. I’ve had a few hair straighteners in my lifetime and I know how important a good straightener is to someone who straightens their hair a lot - like me!

John sent me a lovely package that included the hair straightener, a straightening mat (which I REALLY needed - I was ruining my dresser by setting my hot straightener on it all the time) and some straightening serum.

Of course, Webster must inspect everything that comes in this house!

3-straightener-package

The straightening serum broke and was all over the package, which sucked. Stupid postal service being so rough with packages!

2-spill

I already have a Chi straightener, which I LOVE. Misikko also carries Chi flat irons.

I was curious to know how the Hana would measure up to the Chi as my Chi is by far the best hair straightener I’ve ever had!

9-chiandhana-straightener

My review:

I liked the Hana hair straightener. It got very hot and it worked well to straighten my hair. However, it did not slide through my hair as well as the Chi straightener did. And while I’d say it did just as good of a job straightening my hair as the Chi it also took a little longer then with the Chi. Overall, a good straightener for the price, but I prefer my Chi.

However, I also have very fine hair.

Since I have such fine hair, lots of hair straighteners work fine for me because it’s not hard to straighten. So I had my friend Danielle, who has very thick and frizzy hair test it out as well.

Danielle’s Hair Before:

5-danielle-hair-side

4-danielle-back

During (she straightens in layers, I don’t do this because my hair is so short I don’t need to!)

7-danielle-straightening-hair

Danielle’s Hair After:

8-danielle-straight-hair-side

6-danielle-straight-hair-back

Danielle’s Review:

Danielle also has a Chi straightener and made the following points after using the Hana straightener.

  • You can’t clamp down with it as hard as the Chi and because of it not clamping as well you have to straighten the same piece over and over again.
  • “It’s a good straightener but I still prefer my Chi”

So that is our opinions on the Hana hair straightener! If you’re looking for a straightener that is more cost-effective than a Chi, it’s something you might want to check out. But we both agree the Chi is the best hair straightener we’ve ever had.

Now, for a fun giveaway!

John at Misikko has offered to giveaway a hair straightener to one of my readers!

No way! I literally just broke my straightener! I could really use a new one : ) [especially if it's pink]
Like you, I have naturally curly hair but I straighten it at least once a week. I used to straighten it more but lately I’ve been embracing my curls (or just being lazy, I don’t know!)

I’ve actually been trying to figure out how to do curly hair with a straightner! But then my straightner hit the dust…. :( I need a new one!!! :)

My hair goes both ways… I have this weird kink/wave thing to make that possible.

My hair is wavy. Its short right now and I have to blow dry it straight….because I may have blown out my straightener in Germany. Its so thick too that I have to straighten it because the way it curls is weird, the top layer is straight and the bottom poofs out.

Well I have mostly straight hair but It can get wavy with the humidity! When it gets really out of control I need to straighten it otherwise I look like I am a mess!

I have the same hair as Danielle! Frizzy and thick with a bit of a wave to it, and I too straighten every day. I would LOVE to try the Hana one - and I have a problem with humidity too as it kicks my hair’s ass and poofs it right up again!

My hair is wavish, but very thin. I would loveeee this straightener, anything to make my hair prep time shorter!

Fun giveaway! I have very wavy hair naturally. I may leave it that way every once in a great while (usually more in the summer, because its so easy) but I usually straighten or curl it. I have really long hair and a lot of it so I am all for anything that might shave some time off of the process.

I’ve always been skeptical of even spending money on a straightener. When the salon straightens my hair using a pricey straightener - usually a chi. I’m amazed at how my hair looks. my hair is very fine… but I’ve been leaving it wavy due to the humidity. it’s easier to work with the humidity versus fight it! but i’ve been dying to try to learn how to add some curls with the straightener! and this just might do the trick! and in the colder days i have to straighten my hair because I won’t go outside with wet hair!

My hair is naturally straight, but now that it is a little longer, it likes to flip in some unfortunate ways. I think a straightener might help tame the flipping.

Great giveaway! I have very thick and coarse hair, so if I don’t flat iron my hair, it looks like something out of the 70s!!

Awesome giveaway!

I have naturally wavy hair, and I often wish it was either completely straight or completely curly. My hair is extremely thick, and when I let it air dry, I feel like it is a lifeless mess on my head. :-) I definitely prefer to blow dry and straighten my hair. I used to do this every day, but have gotten lazy recently. :-D

I have wavy hair, but I often straighten it because it feels softer that way. I would love to win the Hana because I’m looking to get a new straightener and would love to give this one a try.

My hair is naturally wavy I guess, but not in a nice way. It’s basically thick and frizzy. I try to tame it in some way every day, so anything that will cut my time down would be amazing!

My hair is naturally a mess. If I let it dry naturally it turns into a big poof ball. Helllll-o 80’s hair.

I straighten it every day, but my straightener is getting old and starting to die. I would love to win a new one!

My hair is naturally wavy and retardly thick and longgggg…..like horse tail thick and corse. I bought a Paul Brown hair straightner about 5 years ago now from a salon and spa for $200 or $200 something….it was my first ceramic straightner…….OMFG best money I have EVER spent!!! I don’t know where this straightner has been all my life….I’m in love with it!! I have to straighten my hair EVERYDAY or else it looks terrible!!! My hair is silky smooth and shiny. My straightner started crappin out this winter and I was horrified, but somehow it came back alive….its falling apart and I’m affraid its going to die soon :’(

My hair is straight, but i do use a straightener…one i bought at Goodwill (used resale store) for $8. Haaa. I was actually searching misikko’s website last week looking at flat irons because i was thinking it was time to get a real one. I’d love to win!

Hey Amber - what a great idea!!

Can’t beat the price - FREE!

My hair is wavy to the point that when I put gel in it, its looks stringy, so straight or up are my options, with hair above my shoulders up doesn’t look very flattering! I am not sure what kind of straightener I have, it gets hot and makes my hair straight = happy Tam.
To be honest - If I won the flat iron I would give it to a friend of mine who is a little less fortunate in the funds department. She is using a curling iron to straiten her hair. :(

Either way, let the best person win!

Enjoy your last days in Europe!!

I would LOVE to win a new iron as mine is almost ready to bite the dust.

My hair is both curly and straight. Does that even make sense!? Hahaha. It’s kind of crazy. It has a mind of its own.

I’d love to win this hair straightener because my mom likes to borrow my Chi. So she could have this one and I could keep my chi and not have to share as much :)

Cool! My hair is somewhere in between straight and curly. I’ve got a lot of wave and some tight curls around my face. My straightener is on its last legs - it doesn’t clamp properly after being dropped one too many times and it’s not heating consistently.

Very cool giveaway! I also have naturally curly/wavy hair that I do not care for, so I straighten it every day… until it gets hot/humid. then I say screw it and wear it wavy. I did that a couple of weeks ago & actually got sort of hit on… and then another guy told me I didn’t look a day over 22, so I guess maybe wearing it curly isn’t the worst thing? Soon enough it will be hot/humid here & since I don’t have central air, I will be rocking the curls.

I also use a Chi straightener and LUV it. :)

I used to straighten my hair all the time in college. Until I felt like it was ridiculously heat damaged and stopped. I still straighten my hair, but only a few times a year. But when I do straighten I’m still using my hair straightener from high school, so this would be perfect for me!

I have wavy hair. And when short, it’s unpretty if unstraightened. I haven’t had it long in awhile…I’m not even sure it looks pretty if not straightened then either. :)

I am ready to try a more expensive straightener. I just can’t afford to buy one right now. :p

My hair has a little wave to it, but if I blow it dry, it does get more straight. But I still straighten my hair to get all the frizziness out and to smooth it. I want to try out a new straightener, something that helps keep it less frizzy and smooth, especially with this summer coming up! The humidity in Florida is just awful.
