One thing I literally need in my house at all times is peanut butter.
Seriously, I eat it with everything. Everything.
Smoothies, oatmeal, apples, bananas, toast, ice cream, straight out of the jar… the list goes on.
So, when I ran out of peanut butter on Saturday, I was kind of at a loss. Looking back, I don’t even know how I made it as far as yesterday without having any. I usually eat oatmeal every single day for breakfast. I haven’t ate it since Saturday because I had no peanut butter to put in it! I was having green monsters in the morning but they weren’t that good without the addition of my beloved PB. Having an apple for a snack? No filling power without the peanut butter!
I’m tellin’ ya, people. I need it!
So, after a very long day yesterday I popped into Walmart on my way home from school to pick up some peanut butter. I even decided to be adventurous and get crunchy!
My life (and meals) is complete again.
What’s the one kind of food you HAVE to have in the house at all times? And do you like crunchy or smooth PB? I also like to have fresh produce; lettuce, apples and bananas are a must at all times and I usually ONLY ever buy smooth, but I’m diggin’ crunchy PB so far!
Flight Update: I was on hold with airmiles for another 30 minutes yesterday morning and basically started crying to the lady on the phone when she wasn’t going to add our stopover in Amsterdam at no extra charge. It was early, I hadn’t had coffee yet. Anyways, the tears must have scared her because she put me on hold for another 10 minutes and got it switched over. Thank god. What a nightmare that whole thing was. After all was said in done I wasted 3 hours and 40 minutes of my life on hold with airmiles over the last two days. Ridiculous.

I’m glad they were able to book your stopover w/out charging you again. What a nightmare….
I am also a fan of peanut butter. Can’t seem to get enough of it. I mostly eat it on apples since I can’t have bread & most oatmeal is off limits for me as well.
other things I have to keep in the house are bananas which I put on my cereal everyday, salsa, and pickles! And a good selection of fruit, too!
Smooth peanut butter all the way. And I would have to say that I always seem to have cookies in my apartment. It has been that way since about 2nd year of college. I got a cookie jar from my roommate for Christmas and then it was always full with the fake oreos from the grocery store!
hmmmm…….fresh produce. i’m really not that picky about what has to be in the house. i try to keep it rather healthy…it hasn’t been working though!
I only learned about the peanut butter thing when I moved to Canada. Peanut butter and chocolate? How bizarre! Peanut butter and JAM? Bizarre… but delicious! Peanut butter and celery I also learned of recently and I haven’t quite caught on with that one, but I’m getting there!
I agree peanut butter is a MUST. Crunchy, smooth, I’m not picky. I also like to have bananas on hand.
mmmmm, peanut buttery goodness. I have peanut butter with a number of things as well: on toast, bagels, in celery, in my stir fry sauce, and on my waffles. yum! I NEED to have cereal. I hate it when I miss out on my cereal in the morning, so usually sometime later in the day I will eat my daily bowl for a meal. Lately I’ve been hooked on Raisin Bran.
No PB for me! I’m horribly allergic! That sometimes doesn’t go over well with class or workmates who also can’t live without it. lol
Thankfully Maranatha makes an awesome smooth AB!
I LOVE LOVE LOVE peanut butter. I really think it’s my favorite food. I’m a big fan of Smooth Skippy PB but I also switch it up with Whole Food’s organic peanut butter.. which one I use sort of depends on what I’m putting it on.
I have to have peanut butter at all times too! I have toast with PB almost every day, sometimes topped with a sliced banana. Today though, the peanut butter didn’t taste as good… I think I might need to switch it up and try almond butter or something. Have you tried different spreads?
I’ve tried Nutella (which I cannot keep in the house because I could literally eat an entire jar in one sitting). And I have tried a couple different almond butters. I find the almond butters (at least the ones I tried) have a consistency too much like chocolate and I eat TOO much of them. I use PB more to add to other foods then eat all on it’s own, even though I can occasionally be found eating a big spoonful of PB directly out of the jar! Haha
I love PB! Smooth, not crunchy. Though I don’t think I’ve ever tried crunchy so I’d probably like it. There isn’t anything that I must have in the apartment. I’m out and about all the time so if I want something that’s not here, I just go get it right away.
Cheese.
I can’t not have my cheese.
It’s kind of sad really.
And I love both kinds of peanut butter, depends on the kind of mood I’m in.
What is a Green Monster?!
A green smoothie: http://greenmonstermovement.com/
SO YUMMY!
I don’t think there is anything that I NEED to have in my apartment, but peanut butter and popcorn definitely rank up on things that I like to have on hand. My fave kind of peanut butter is smooth, preferably Skippy peanut butter, but also Jiff is good.
That’s awesome!! PB is a MUST in our house too!! That and 1% milk, fresh fruit and veggies. I LOVE PEANUT BUTTER!! I love all types….smooth, cruchy, organic……love it!! I think i get it from my dad, he is a PB crazy….he gets up in the middle of the night to have a glass of milk and a pb sammach.
I’m happy you got the flight stuff sorted out
Great post! I eat peanut butter every morning basically with my toast…there has to be lots on the toast and it has to melt before I can eat it…strange, but it’s so much better that way!
Some food items that I must always have in my house are: peanut butter, diet coke and bread. Sounds like a healthy diet to me! haha
I have to have peanut butter too - I used to be a crunchy only kind of gal, but that changed when the hubs wanted creamy. Now? I’m creamy. LOL
Also, I have to have something to snack on. Like some kind of oats bar or something.
I LOVE peanut butter. I have toast with peanut butter almost every day, or if I’m running late, I have a non-toasted, smothered in peanut butter sandwich in the car on the way to work. Yes, I really enjoy peanut butter.
But, my “staple item” is much less healthy than yours, I can’t go a day without some sort of diet caffeinated soda. SOO bad, but so true.
Hmm, for me I would say fresh produce - I have to have some kinds of fruit or veggies. Sooo glad you were able to get that flight stuff taken care of!
Ugh, customer service. What a misnomer! When I switched my cell phone carrier to Sprint they made a mistake in porting my number. In an attempt to rectify it I was on hold for EIGHT HOURS. Yep. Eight hours.
You’d die in my house - not a jar of peanut butter in sight! We have lots of jam though …
I don’t think I could live without pasta or rice. I love it! Mmm, starchy carbs <3
I’m glad you got everything worked out with your flights! I don’t really have a preference between smooth and crunchy PB, though my husband prefers smooth so that’s usually what we have on hand! The only food I HAVE to keep in the house is rice/soya sauce - it’s my comfort food, the one thing I never get tired of … Speaking of which, I need to go buy some
Tears will work wonders…
I think PB (or some form of nut butter, like hazelnut) is also a must for me. If I don’t have it - my life is just not the same. Something is missing. My meals seem bland!
I also need milk though. You wouldn’t THINK it’s that important but the other day when I realized I had none, well, I had nothing to put in my coffee, or cereal… anyways the list went on!
I’ve always liked peanut butter but never been a huge fan until last week when I discovered the grilled nutella and pb sammie. Pure love.
I love this post. Even if it lead to a pb cookie craving.
I absolutely adore peanut butter…in FACT for YEARS all I hate for breakfast was peanut butter on toast with a glass of milk…up until this year even I was eating it 3-4 times per week…but now I eat my breakfast at work, so it’s usually oatmeal…
I actually miss my pb on toast…
AND I have only eaten creamy for MANY years because my husband hates peanuts in his pb…but I think I might have to get a small jar for myself, because I LOVE crunchy!!!
mmmm…and I love pb on celery sticks too!! What a great delivery of pb!!
Mmm…I love, love, love peanut butter! Especially when combined with chocolate.
And I won’t say what I always need to have in my fridge…because it’s unhealthy and shouldn’t be in my fridge to begin with.
I heard a statistic that said 85% of homes in America have peanut butter inside their cupboards. Crazy! It’s a staple at our place too. I really want to try a kind I’ve heard about that has maple syrup swirled around in it - sounds soooo good!
About the flights…yiee! Glad you got it worked out FINALLY though. I know - it’s totally cry-worthy sometimes when you’re trying to get exactly the trip you want and it doesn’t seem to be working out and you’re on hold…Airmiles and Aeroplan are SUCH A HEADACHE!!! Yesterday my husband was trying to book an Aeroplan flight to Arizona for us to go in March. He had to call in because the flight we wanted had dissappeard from online booking. So! They charged us an extra $60 “booking fee” because we booked over the phone instead of online. (Insert nasty insult to Aeroplan here.)
Anyway, we’ll totally have to go to Trader Joe’s to find some funky treats while we’re in the US…
Very excited for your trip too!!! Sweet.
I am the only person I know that HATES peanut butter. In all it’s forms and varieties. I don’t like nuts - I’m not allergic, I just don’t really like them. Very occasionally I’ll eat a packet of salted peanuts (like once in an entire year). I don’t even like chick peas, cos they remind me of nuts. So surviving without PB is easy for me - just as well, really, it’s not often available in my area and driving 2 hours for a jar would be kinda crazy.
The one and only thing that I cannot survive without is TEA. And that green tea, herbal tea, etc doesn’t cut it. It has to be black tea. And a brand from the UK or Ireland (nobody else blends it right!). And I drink a huge mug of it with milk and 2 sugars, thank you. Seriously, it’s my comfort food, my treat, my relaxation, my rejuvenation, my wake up drink.
I love tea.
Oh my gosh- that really is a nightmare. I’m glad you got her to finally listen to you, sometimes it requires crying- you shouldn’t have to apologize!
So I am basically obsessed with peanut butter also. I think I ate wheat bread with pb every day for probably 8-10 years. I’ve had to slowly break my obsession because my stomach does not love all the fat, but I can still eat it in small quantities…so I do, trust me haha. Things I must have in the house include apples, oatmeal, and Cheerios- yes I am secretly a five year old.
Peanut butter is always in my house!! Other must haves: frozen blueberries, spinach, sweet potatoes, dr. prager veggie burgers.
I would die without peanut butter. I’m a smooth/creamy Jif kind of girl. Although I have tried some natural as well.
I don’t really like peanut butter. (Yep, seriously).
I have to have cheese though. I get hungry in the middle of the night and cheese toast is the easiest thing to make.
Well chocolate and cheese are two possibilities on my list.
But my MAIN thing I always have to have in the house ISN’T food - it’s diet soda! I always need a stock of that!
That’s funny because I can’t stand peanut butter! I have to have cereal and milk in the house. It’s my go-to snack or meal for any time of day!
I absolutely LOVE all peanut butter! There is always peanut butter in my house. I eat it more than the kids do. I love toast with very thick layer of peanut butter and eat that with applesauce or pearsauce. Yummy! I will eat that any time during the day.
I always have milk, eggs and lots of fruit.
I love the PB, but it’s too high in fat to eat every day. i dig on fruits and nuts most often. and chewing gum. i always have chewing gum on me.
I don’t have any ONE thing, but I like to have things like eggs, noodles, potatoes etc.
I’m a crunchy PB girl all the way. The more nuts the better!
I don’t care for crunchy pb, Kraft smooth is where it’s at!!! I’m with you, I love love peanut butter!
You are hilarious! I love PB too. It is great on bagels in the morning! I have grown to like crunchy in the past few years.
I have to have yogurt around - I’m allergic to milk, but I have to have yogurt!
So sorry to hear about your bad adventure with the airlines.
I think the main thing I try to keep in the house all the time is feta. Other than that I’m not really sure.
And I’m glad to hear that you finally got everything worked out with your flights!
For my husband, we need to have at all times: Apples, bananas, oranges, eggs, bread, milk, yogurt. I am a bit more flexible, but lately I need almond milk, almond butter, and grapefruits.
crunchy peanut butter!!! peanut butter and pickle sandwiches are the best thing ever
my fridge is never without apple juice. not to mention the 8 back up apple juice jugs i have in the pantry.
I *always* have PB too - I literally stock up before it even gets Close to running out, heh. gotta stay on top of things! Other thing I always keep on hand? Oatmeal! And bananas. I feel like those three things are a runner’s best friend.
