Friday Five
What do you do when it’s 9:30 on a Thursday night, you’re trying to write tomorrows post but all you want to do is go to bed? You whip out some bullet points of course!
One.
I’ve noticed that I start getting kind of ornery when I haven’t been home for awhile. Check out this pattern back in November. Clearly, I need my home time. Luckily I will be getting just that in five sleeps! Wheee!
Two.
I’m still running. Just not blogging about it. Right now I’m running three times a week. It’s working really well for me, I actually look forward to and love every run, whereas when I’m doing 4-5 runs a week I sometimes start to burn out. Right now I’m just building a base for the marathon so I don’t want to burn out since I’ll be running a lot more come June! I’m still doing about 20-25 miles a week. This weekend I will be attempting my longest run ever. Stay tuned.
Three.
Between now and April 25 I have to move into a new apartment and plan/prepare/pack for a 3-week trip to Europe all while finishing up my last semester of school and working like crazy. Cue, stress. I try not to think about all of this, at least not all at once, or else it makes me want to throw up. Kind of.
Also, I kind of wish I had not given two months notice because now my landlady keeps emailing me about showing the apartment on short notice and freaking out because no one has responded to their ad. Hello, it’s been up for three days and the apartment isn’t even available until April 1. Calm down.
On another note, the apartment that I’m moving into is much, much, MUCH smaller than the one I’m in now. So I have to downsize. A lot.
Four.
I’m so excited for the Olympics. That start TONIGHT. Go, Canada, go!
Five.
I’ve had a mad craving for a really good cupcake lately. I had a red velvet cupcake from Starbucks about a week ago and it was soooo disappointing. I really need to find an amazing cupcake stat.
What are your Friday Five for this week?

I have my longest run ever to-date tomorrow and I’m a bit scared.
Good luck on yours!
Those starbucks cupcakes looked SO good but I resisted and now I’m glad I did. Thanks for letting us know.
I have been craving cupcakes lately, too! Red velvet is my favorite, but people can sure screw it up easily. Sorry you found a bad one. You could always try making some and freezing the ones you don’t eat. If you do that, let me know and I can send you the instructions for my sister’s AWESOME buttercream frosting recipe! Ooh, maybe I should just post it. Hm …
We are excited for the Olympics, too! We’re going to my parents’ house tonight to watch the opening ceremonies with them. My husband especially loves the Olympics; sometimes I swear he doesn’t work while they are on and just checks his computer compulsively for updates instead.
)
Have a wonderful weekend!
1. I am kind of deliriously exhausted from the # of hours I worked this week.
2. I can’t wait to sleep for like 10 hours tonight. I am so sleep deprived right now!
3. I also can’t wait to watch Project Runway & Private Practice tonight. Those are the only shows I record during the week so I look forward to catching up on the on Friday night.
4. I can’t wait to see my nephews on Saturday night! It’s going to be the highlight of my week!!
5. I can’t wait to get my Starbucks latte in about an hour. Even though I cheated and had one yesterday since i knew I’d be staying at work until 8 pm…
Happy Friday!
I’ve moved around a lot – and downsized more than once – something that helps me not freak out everytime is packing a box here and there. Before you know it, you’ll be mostly done. Besides, you don’t need every single thing in your apartment every day. The things you don’t use can go in a box till moving day! Also, the stuff that you might have to toss but don’t want to – rent a storage unit or store them at your parents.
LOL
i have no problems downsizing. I purge a lot throughout the year – drives fiance nuts. I have 3 bags of clothes waiting to go to goodwill. =)
i can’t run – because i can’t get to the gym because of the insane amounts of snow we have here. hopefully next week will be back to normal.
Running three days a week works well for me too!
I’m so glad that you’re going home for a visit soon. Also thats crap about your landlady freaking out about the realator showing your apt RIGHT. THIS. SECOND. Hopefully she backs off and gives you some breathing room. If we lived closer I would bring you a cupcake. I made some the other day, they were delicious if I do say so myself. =)
1. I’m excited Monday is a HOLIDAY and we’re flying out to Toronto to catch a favourite band from the UK. SO excited.
2. I’m happy nobody was scheduled for my class today, so I get the morning off from teaching!
3. I’m happy that tomorrow I get to stay inside and not trek through waist-deep snow and freeze.
4. I just ordered another something pretty for my wedding, a little clutch off Etsy, which means packages in the mail soon. I love packages in the mail.
5. I’m hoping ‘Valentine’s Day’ is actually good and not just a Love Actually ripoff
I totally agree with what you’re saying about the running burnout. I’ve found that 3-4 times a week is really a good number for me. It’s enough that I can still build up and train but not too much that I’m like oh this again haha. I like to switch it up!
What is it about Thursday nights that I’m always exhausted?? Way to write a post anyways!
I wish you luck on your longest run yet this weekend! I’m sure you will rock it!
I was craving chocolate chip cookies last night and was going to make some, but then got lazy. True, but sad story! Hope you get your cupcake soon
Have a great weekend!
Girl I hear ya… I was uber sad girl yesterday about Spike and I was like, we’re NEVER going this long without seeing each other AGAIN! (BTW – We still don’t have Skype.)
I hope you get to go home soon! Have a good weekend and get yourself a cupcake!
1) I am spending the day cooking as I am having a dinner party tonight – Irish Themed
2) I am so excited to be having a girls night tomorrow night!
3) I can’t stop thinking about my trip to New York that I will be taking in April!!
4) Tomorrow will be the hubby and my 11 year anniversary of the day we started dating!
5) I am so glad I am not at work right now!
-Yay Olympics!
-Breathe woman, I’ll help with the packing process.
-25 miles? You’re so motivated, it amazes me.
-Yay, home!
-There is a cupcake shop on the One Hundred block of Victoria Street called Sweet Treats or something that has cupcakes that were sent down from heaven. Fact.
SWEET SPOT CUPCAKES! OMG. They’re sooooo good. They’re open Thursday to Saturday, 10 to 4pm. AMAZING. Get there early, because all the good ones go fast. They are indeed from heaven. Fact confirmed.
O.M.G!!!! We have the best cupcake places here in Calgary!!! CRAVE cupcake is heaven!!! You have to remind me to take you and Eric there when you come in April!! And then there’s Butter Cream Bakery, they are neck in like for cupcakes here.
1. The baby has been kicking like CRAZY this week and this morning Steve felt it too, a couple of time, for the first time EVER!! He was so cute!! I’m excited for him, its what he’s been waiting for
2. ITS FRIDAY!! YAYAYAYAYAY
3. I cleaned my office yesterday lol
4. People at my work finally found out i’m prego and then almost fell over when they found out i’m almost 5 1/2 months LOL
5. I’m excited for this long weekend…..and i love Valentines…..and for the breakfast Steve’s making Sunday morning
Hey,
Yah, I’m watching the torch relay live right now. Clearly, my day is going to be SUPER productive. Not.
I moved in September and downsized, it was actually a really good thing. I got rid of so much unneeded things, but I’ve found that I’ve accumulated more since I moved. How did that happen? I need to do another purge and fast!
I am looking forward to reading about your marathon training adventures, that’s such an amazing accomplishment!
1. I’m FINALLY excited for the Olympics. I’m going to TRRRRY and control the tv tonight so I can watch the Opening Ceremonies. (And wft with Arnold “don’t make me spell his last name” carrying the torch?)
Oh well. Love is money?
2. I need to clean my house. Clutter everywhere!
3. I have to work on Valentine’s Day
4. I’m really sad I didn’t go to the gym at all this week. Lazy ftw.
5. I finally found something to get Kyle for his b-day! Annnd I’m thinking I’m going to use yoru suggestion and get him a tool place gift certificate.
Oh my goodness, I had a red velvet cupcake from Starbucks a few weeks ago, and I was terribly disappointed too!
I love red velvet cake and it looked so yummy, but it did not taste good at all.
Not something you would expect from Starbucks.
Don’t overpack! Seriously. You’ll think you need so much, but you really really don’t!
I guess we were channeling each other when we wrote our posts last night. I was just thinking “okay, let’s think of five random things.” Sometimes those turn out to be the most fun to write and interesting to read. Yes, CAN’T wait for the Olympics tonight. Yippee!
I’m not a huge fan of any of the food at Starbucks – it always looks SO good but tastes like dirt. Blech.
Yah, Starbucks food? Not the best! I’m never very impressed. Stick with the coffee – they do pretty well with that
I’ll be missing all the exciting Olympics stuff b/c I’m definitely not bringing the comp on vacation. Although, if it weren’t for blogs, I probably wouldn’t have known it started tonight anyway – ha, seriously, these snow days pile up and I’m completely out of the loop!
have a good weekend! xo
I have been trying really hard to focus on one big thing to do at a time and it has really helped my stress level a lot. I would give you five things but I am commenting from my phone so ill just say its friday yay yay
1. I’m so excited for the Olympic opening ceremony!
2. I wish I could send you a cupcake without it going stale
3. Today was a super long day and while i’m supposed to go out tonight, I’d rather crawl into bed
4. I’m feeling uninspired when it comes to blogging lately.
5. I look forward to the day I’m as awesome as you and can run 11 miles at once
I keep seeing those new starbucks cupcakes and want to try them! But I’m normally there in the morning, and don’t feel like a cupcake is breakfast-y enough. Its not like its any unhealthier than the cinnamon roll I normally order. That’s a little disappointing to here that they don’t live up to expectations.
I recently downsized to an apartment about half the size of what I had before and it really hasn’t been that bad. We had to get rid of a lot of stuff and have a lot less closet space but it’s still perfect for us. And the rent being about $500 less than what we were paying, makes it all worth it.
I think all Olympics should be in Canada. Those people just seem so happy!
If you’re craving cupcakes, I have to warn you: beware of my post. If I could I would mail one to you!!!
Hope your run went well, it’s SUCH a big deal when you go for your longest run… I remember after my 7 mile run I was on such a runner’s high!!!
I have one last question about training plans… So, to make my own, I could take Hal Higdon’s plans mileage for every week and spread it out as I wish? Like if for one week all of the runs he says add up to 20 miles then I can do 7, 7 and 6? And what about “tempo” runs and all… do you do those?
Those Starbucks cupcakes are way better looking than they are tasting- I agree. Still fun to lick the frosting though
yay Canada! I’ve been watching the Olympics all weekend and while I have been rooting for America, of course, I’ve been rooting for Canada too! and I love the Opening Ceremonies
I hope you had a wonderful weekend and a good Valentine’s Day and I know you have a lot on your plate with the moving, the packing, the school work, but you can do it!! And I, for one, I’m excited to see your new place!
