One.
Tomorrow is halloween. I’m not a big fan of halloween but all my friends are going to the bar and I don’t want to miss out in the fun so I’m joining them. Rather than spending $50 on a costume I am shamelessly stealing the ‘Zombie Runner’ idea from Morgan. $2.50 spent on fake blood and some old running clothes pulled from the back of my closet = a perfect and cheap halloween costume!
Two.
Winter is coming to Canada. Quickly. It snowed here yesterday and I had a mini-breakdown because I am terrified of driving in the winter in Kamloops. We got in an accident last November so didn’t drive all winter and it’s very hilly here, which is why I’m so freaked out about it. Operation winter tires is happening ASAP!
Three.
In the last week or so I have become very frustrated with my program and teachers. I feel like I’m learning nothing and completely wasting my time. It’s put me in a bit of a grumpy mood, which has caused me to take my grumpy mood out on Eric. Not fun. Other than my grumpy-ness we have been doing fabulously. I miss him every day but with the way our lives are right now long-distance works well for us.
Four.
I’m still loving the gym. Mondays I run and do a 60-minute weight class, Tuesdays is “rest”/yoga, Wednesdays I do a brick workout with a 45-minute spinning class followed by a 3-5 mile run, Thursdays is a 50-minute power yoga class, Fridays is a run followed by another 60-minute weight class, Saturday is long run day (8-12 miles) and Sunday is spin/yoga. I must remember how much I love crosstraining the next time I am training for a race. Remind me, OK?
Five.
Monday will be the first day of a new weekly feature that I’ve been thinking about and planning for the last few weeks. It’s called The Monday Meeting and it’s all about having a conversation. I’m excited about it and hope you guys enjoy it!
What would your “Friday Five” be this week?
PS: Good luck to one of my blogging BFF’s Lisa in her half-marathon tomorrow. I know she’s going to totally rock it!
PPS: Thanks for everyones input yesterday on the H1N1 vaccine. Right now I’m leaning towards getting it but I’ll keep you all updated.

i’ve felt the same way about my school and program i’m in. at the journalism school @ Mizzou they require so many lower and upper level courses in humanities, science, social science, etc. plus HAVE to take micro and macro econ and a few other required courses. So I’ve barely taken any Advertising courses (my emphasis in the JSchool) and feel like I’m not prepared AT ALL for graduation in May. I’m in creative, so all I’ve heard from agencies is that I have to have an amazing book when I graduate (portfolio). And I don’t. At all. I’ve seriously taken 2 creative ad classes and will take my capstone next semester. and that’s it. Ugh! I’m also particularly mad right now because i’m up at 2am right now studying for a communications law test, which is a journalism course, but i hate it with a passion. okay, i’ll stop bitching now.
PS- thanks for the birthday wishes!
Thanks for the good luck wishes - that was so sweet of you!
My Friday Five…
1. The half is tomorrow - I am so ready for it so am not freaking out about how i will do.
2. The weather freaking sucks. Why does it need to rain like every single day?
3. As much as I hated spending a huge chunk of change on new clothes, I love my new work clothes. It’s actually fun getting ready in the morning now!
4. I’m obsessed w/ Skim Vanilla Lattes. The Starbucks Barrista knows my names. I feel both sheepish and proud of this & kind of want to jump over the counter and hug him when he greets me by name.
5. Work is going so good and I am starting to feel more confident - which is huge because I have been mentally kicking my *ss for the last 4 weeks, telling myself I am so stupid/dumb/incompetent. So this is a good shift.
I can’t wait for your new Monday post! You know i adore your blog so love any changes you make.
Enjoy your weekend! And I hear you on classes being a waste of time. I had that feeling as well, but at least you are getting some practical experience to supplement those classes. And that practical experience is going to be the deal-maker (v. the deal-breaker) when it comes to looking for your next job!
I love the Friday Five! If I was more awake, I’d come up with my own, but till I am, I’ll just sit here, drinking chai and catching up on blogs.
H =)
p.s. You’re welcome–glad it helped! =)
Cute friday-fiiiive! You’ve got that gym thing Down to an art - way to take advantage of what’s offered!
Love your Friday Five! I dislike Halloween also and I’m trying to force myself to go out, but I don’t know if it’s going to happen :-/
Can’t wait to see how your zombie runner works out!
LOL!
I dig the new Monday feature!!!
Have a fab weekend girlie!!!
seems like everyone’s feeling a bit *AGH* today! i’m just glad it’s friday. I get to go to florida on sunday. But i’m a bit disheveled cuz i haven’t packed. and i have tons to do on saturday - I need to do my long run saturdays again. even if i don’t have a race lined up. but i’m gonna be in florida — and i’m so running as much as i can while i’m there. I LOVE running there.
on the other hand I’m seriously annoyed with my parents, and I SO want to blog about it but i can’t! they read my blog! UGH.
1) I can’t wait for Halloween tomorrow!
2) I don’t want to dress up today, but kinda have to.
3) My oats taste good right now
4) I am sick of school.
5) Is it summer holidays yet?
I am with you on the winter driving. Where I live its incredibly hilly and I really really dont like driving in it. So when winter/snow/ice hit I hibernate. Have a great weekend!
Snow already? Ick. That’s not much fun. We just have rain which leads me to Friday Five…
1. We’ve had 4 inches of rain in the last 24 hours. I love rain but this is too much.
2. I can’t wait until my hair is longer. I know, that’s random, but true. It’s so boring when it’s short.
3. All this talk about running has reminded me that I need to sign up for my Thanksgiving 5k.
4. I’m annoyed with the fact that I have to be at work early every day next week. I may be a walking zombie =)
5. There were times during my college career that I felt like I wasn’t learning anything or getting anywhere either. Hang in there, get your degree, and get out! You’ll do great, I promise =)
I think the zombie runner idea is great.
I LOVE that you are dressing up for Halloween even though you don’t really want to…a bunch of us are dressed up at work today and I am loving the atmosphere around here!!! It’s just a lot of fun to play dress up for a day!!!
I would have to think of my Friday five….
1) I got to dress up today
2) when I put in my hair extensions I realized that not only were they a perfect match for my hair (after a year of different colors) but they also were the same length as my hair! WOOT!
3) I am having one of my favorite take out dinners tonight (Wok Box)
4) I get to see my adorable little nieces face when I visit her in my girly clown costume
and
5) Danny comes home from a little trip away tonight (sorry, not rubbing that in!!!) and I will sleep better tonight
I am sorry to hear about your program, that makes me sad because journalism involves a lot of passion (in my opinion) and they should be encouraging that!!
Have a great weekend amber! snow already, wow. Where i went to college it snowed on halloween 3 of the 5 years i was up there. never bothered me driving in it though.
Looking forward to the Monday feature! My Friday five…
1. Tomorrow is not only Halloween, but ESPN College Gameday is in my town for our 5pm football game USC vs Ducks. The excitement around here is just crazy!
2. I also have a pedicure and long run to complete tomorrow
3. my abs and calves are crazy sore from the bootcamp workout I did on Wednesday
4. i may have just eaten two choc cupcakes before noon at work…
5. The man and I are going to grab a beer somewhere tonight. Looking forward to it!
Zombie runner is such a cute idea! Holy crap, you must be in shape lady! I’m barely squeezing in my Shred workouts. Ah ha
your Halloween costume is such a good idea!
1. I am so glad this work week is over, it drugggg by and almost killed me.
2. On that same note, I have a feeling I am going to get called in to work tomorrow and not even get a real weekend
3. I went snowboarding today! Just jibbed around town, SO excited for actual riding!
4. Shayne found his piano book (he has a keyboard) and I am going to start practising playing again…cover your ears.
5. I forgot how important slippers are as part of my winter wardrobe, its a necessity!
OMG your workout schedule is CRAZY!!! Good for you though! I’m also kicking mine up a notch and it feels good (although right now I’m mostly in pain because of yoga lol!)
Your work out schedule is AWESOME. I can’t imagine walking after my 45 minute spin class haha. You impress me.
I’m sorry your program is making you grumpy. School does that to me too. There is just only so much you can learn in the classroom in my opinion.
I am having the same problem with school! We have two professors at my school who are new to the school and I’m not learning anything from them! Research Methods and Beginning Reporting - and both teachers are awful. I even went with some friends from RM to the class to talk to the head of our department about her. More than half the class has failed 2 out of our 3 tests. It’s just ridiculous. And those are two classes that are core classes that I want to learn a lot in. Other classes: Visual Communications and Media Ethics (things I care little about, heh) I’m doing exceptionally well in and learning a lot! ERG!
