This week…

…I only ran once. Exhaustion and the heat prevented me from getting up early to run. I know, I know, I shouldn’t make excuses - but I am.

…I felt very, very homesick.

…I was praised on my writing, at work.

…I also received some constructive criticism on my editing skills, which is bothering me more than it should.

…I ate sandwiches and fruit every night because it was too hot to turn the oven on.

…I did level 3 of the 30-day shred on Tuesday morning and my legs and butt were still aching yesterday! I’ve done this level before and it always makes me sore, but not THAT sore. I’m not sure what was up with my muscles, lack of strength work lately, perhaps?

…I broke down and started bawling while dropping Eric off at school yesterday. I’m homesick. I’m tired. It’s hot. I was having a fat day. I got over it in about 10 minutes - I needed a good cry. I think it scared Eric a bit - though, he’s pretty used to my random breakdowns by now.

…I received an email from one of my favourite blog friends yesterday morning that brightened my entire day.

…I spent two hours floating on the river, in a tube, yesterday with a great friend.

…I wore 50 SPF sunscreen but STILL got burnt - really burnt. It hurts.

…I read so many posts about the “Summer of Me” that I am determined to follow suit. Post to come.

…I was amazed, once again, by the power of the blogging community - you guy’s get me through more bad weeks/days than you realize.

Have a fabulous weekend. XO

I hate sunburns! Do you use sunblock or sunscreen. Sunblock actually blocks the sun (I have an spf 50, and I usually don’t get burnt, if it’s applied evenly), while sunscreen just sort of screens your skin from the sun (not actually preventing a sunburn). I learned that the hard way in the past. It’s definitely no fun. Aloe vera, while sticky, might help a bit.

Ouch!

A good breakdown happens now and then - I hope you felt better after! That sandwich idea (no oven!) is brilliant. and that fruit looks tasty!! :)

I hope you have a good weekend, relax a little over there!! xo

hmm i just learned something new from megan.

nothing wrong with a breakdown. Every now and then everyone wants to revert to being a kid again.

Whenever someone criticizes you in regards to your work, take it as they’re trying to help you be better, unless they do it in a rude way. don’t let it bother you so much. figure out what you can do to make your work better. I actually like constructive criticism….while a photography major at my school, it was BRUTAL. There were days where i just wanted to run out of the classroom and cry. but i made it through. it only made me stronger.

Ouch! Oh you poor thing!!

I’m glad my email cheered you up! I must have known on some subconscious level that you needed an email because I really had absolutely nothing important to say! ha! :)

I suck at getting criticism as well. Someone told me once that if you aren’t getting feedback, the person doesn’t care about helping you grow. So getting feedback means they believe you can change & grow, etc. It’s hard to actually rationalize that & not want to crawl out of the office on your hands & knees w/ your tail between your legs. I’ll have to do a post on my worst performance review sometime.

I have days like that when I break down, too. Everything builds & builds, and then one miniscule thing can set me off into a sobfest. A good cry is just as restorative as a good laugh, so I hope you are feeling better!

Enjoy your long weekend!!

DANG that’s a tough sunburn. Get inside pale-face!! ouch.

All women have those breakdowns regularly. it’s a part of growing up. Eric will get used to it. Kelley is 37 and still has them about twice a month. hang in there, and have a great weekend!

Ouch that burn looks painful! I forced myself to go jogging three times this week, but it was total torture. Once was at the air conditioned gym and the other two times had to be before 7am or else it would be too hot. I figured why not though… it’s too hot to sleep, anyway!

Ouches that looks painfull!!! I use spf 60 and i still look like a lobster! LOL
As for your breakdown, its completely healthy, everyone including men do it. I often get homesick, i have Sheldon here but i still miss my entire family. Your lucky to have someone so caring. We’ll see you tonight!!! I can’t wait!! YIIPIE SKIPPIE :)

Ouch! That burn looks painful… but floating down the river sounds like so much fun. :)

Nothing wrong with not turning the stove on, espeically when its so hot! Your supper looked pretty yummy, especially the blueberries.

Sometimes the best thing we can do is just CRY. Let it out. Even if our men look at us like we’re completely nutty.

It’s been a long week for a lot of people in the blogosphere so I hope you have a lovely lovely weekend.

Floating sounds divine though I could have done without the burn.

We all love you!
(oh and your dinners? look amazing.)

*Hugs* it can only go up from here, right??

Poor girl, that sunburn looks painful :(

12 Jen July 31, 2009 at 3:18 PM

OUCHIE!!!!!!!!!!! I am so sorry to see that burn! That CANNOT be comfy!!!

You are entitled to a meltdown girl!!! It helps to cry it out sometimes, hey???

I am also proud of you for getting praise at work!!! That is one of the best feelings in the world!!!

You didn’t turn me off of Vancouver at all!!! I am not a huge fan of driving through cities…but we have our trusty GPS…so I guess we can just hope for the best!!! I absolutely adore BC though, so I will put up with the traffic - and the HEAT!!! My lord!!!! We haven’t been that hot AT ALL this summer - this is the coolest summer we have ever had - we only hit 30 for one week (and of course it was when we didn’t have any air conditioning in our office!!!!)…I have LOTS of sundresses together to be packed!!!!

13 Ashley July 31, 2009 at 3:21 PM

I hope you’re feeling better. Have a great weekend!

14 Jessica July 31, 2009 at 7:40 PM

Oh, missy! You forgot the e-mail I sent you ;) just kidding!

Wowww, sun burn. Aloe aloe aloe!!

<3

15 Mia {runs & rests} July 31, 2009 at 9:30 PM

Awww, hope that sunburn heals soon.
Hey, there’s nothing wrong with fruits and sammies for dinner for a week! I’m guilty of that, too. Can’t stand the heat.
Congrats on being praised for your writing at work. Focus on the positive vibes girl!
A good cry is great release methinks. I definitely feel better after one. Hugs to you!

Those cherries look awesome, and I’m picky about cherries. Let’s just say I’ll take a bite of a cherry and if its not perfect I won’t finish it.

And I’m glad your week’s at least starting to get better!

17 Kelly August 2, 2009 at 9:42 PM

I’m glad to see other people get crazy burn/tan lines also. I hope it feels better soon! And don’t worry about the random break downs, it happens to everyone :)

18 Jennifer August 2, 2009 at 11:32 PM

I give you major props! I’m on day 2 of the shred and it’s kicking my butt!!!

19 Carissa August 4, 2009 at 3:37 AM

this is a late comment, but what the heck. I feel your pain on the sunburn. I am very fair and even if I wear high SPF sunblock, slathered on thick, I STILL get sunburned too! so unfair!! :) hope you have some aloe vera handy…

btw, that sandwich and fruit looks divine. I should eat like that instead of what has been happening lately. lots of eating out because we don’t have food, don’t want to go to the grocery store and don’t want to cook. so bad and so expensive! eeks.

I am like you I take constructive criticism a bit personal, even when it is just supposed to be helpful. but I have tried to develop a “thicker skin” as they say… but congrats on the praise on your writing! that’s always a great feeling.

and finally, I totally agree that sometimes we all just need a good cry. I’ve found that sometimes it is the only thing that can make you feel better!
