It’s July 1! Canada Day!!!
I love Canada Day, it’s so fun. It’s great seeing so many people get out and express their national pride. Also, this Canada day I am in Victoria, BC’s capital. I’ve lived in BC my whole life but I’ve NEVER visited the capital city until now, I can’t wait to go into Victoria this afternoon and see all of the festivities!
As most people do, I grew up loving my country. I was proud to be a Canadian and I even have a maple leaf tattooed on my left shoulder (except it’s crooked, which is not so cool). Even though I’ve always been proud to be a Canadian, I don’t think I’ve ever really appreciated my country as much as I should. We take a lot of things for advantage that other countries do not have the luxury of having. One thing that Canada is certainly not short on is space. I came to truly appreciate this aspect of Canada after travelling to Germany last summer.
When in the German “countryside” there would be a house every kilometre or two! You couldn’t get very far without encountering some kind of civilization. Having grown up in the Canadian countryside, I really don’t consider that “being in the country”. Where I grew up you could drive for several kilometres without encountering a single house. Canada is the second largest land mass in the world, yet it’s one of the least populated countries! That’s something I never really thought about until visiting Germany and seeing how crowded it was there. I mean a “small town” to them had a population of 250,000 people! That’s more like a big city over here!
I’m probably a little biased, but I think the scenery in Canada, especially in my home province of British Columbia is absolutely breathtaking. There’s mountains, lakes, the ocean, big cities, small ones. It’s gorgeous.
There are so many things I love about my country and I am VERY proud to be a Canadian, today and every day!
Happy Canada Day!!! XO

I agree whole heartedly!!!! I HEART Canada and all things Canadian. Happy Birthday to us…although we are a very “young” country at only 149 years old this year. Be sure to visit the harbour in front of the Empress…full of artists and street performers, the Empress is beautiful, and you can walk the seawall all the way around to the other side of the bay, passing some gorgeous homes and gardens. Oh, and a rather odd little place (almost opposite of the Empress, across the bay) that has all kinds of wood sculptures and figureheads all over it and it’s yard.
Happy Canada Day to you! I hope to visit more of your fine country in the next few years. I’d love to check out Vancouver & then head east to the Banff area. Some day!
I think traveling outside of your country always seems to make you appreciate your home country so much more. Every time I come back from a trip, it renews my sense of patriotism and I find myself appreciating my country, and all the things I take for granted, a whole lot more!
Have a fabulous weekend!!
I hate to say it, but in the past I was never all that keen on Canada Day. My little family just didn’t do much for celebrating it. However, living in a different country for school has made me appreciate my country a lot more. Today Canada, I will be having a drink (and possibly some cupcakes) in your honour.
happy canada day! i have to say everytime i meet a canadian (even though you and i have never met) they always have the best things to say about their country.
Happy Canada Day!!!
I’m obviously not Canadian, but… who knows, maybe one day?
Happy Canada Day! When I went to summer camp, they used to make us sing the Canadian national anthem everyday, I still know it by heart
Haha I didn’t know there was a Canada Day- I must be super uninformed (I’m from the US, clearly). Is it like a formal, observed holiday there? I’m curious now. Well Happy Canada Day at any rate!

I actually saw that today was Canada Day on my calendar at work at thought of you. So Happy Canada Day then!
I’m not quite sure, what makes today Canada Day though, is it due to something specific happening?
Happy Canada Day to you! I’m not Canadian but I loved reading this post. Your words painted a beautiful picture of the Canadian countryside. Have fun today!
Happy Canada Day! I’ve only been to Montreal once, but I’d love to see some of the rest of what Canada has to offer!!

We went downtown for Canada Day - SO BUSY! But at least we drove this time so we didn;t have to be packed like sardines in the bus
