This post will consist of detailed bullets:
- Three times. That’s how many times I opened google reader and x-ed it out yesterday before I finally settled in and started reading. 111 posts is a lot. After a full FOUR hours of reading/commenting I finally managed to get it down to 49 posts. Oy! Maybe I need to learn to read faster? Anyways, I’ve decided to do a bit of a cleaning out of my google reader, I want to add some new readers in and take out some blogs that are never updated or that I just skim over. I always feel bad when I do that but I’m only one person and I shouldn’t feel overwhelmed, plus there are SO many blogs that I thoroughly enjoy reading every time I read them and then there are other blogs that I don’t really care to read. So those ones gotta go! Has anybody else ever cleaned out their google reader? Did you feel bad or good about it?
- I got home last night at 12:30, which meant I’d been awake for 19 hours. I didn’t feel tired at all and it was actually difficult for me to fall asleep! I finally did and when my mom’s cat woke me up at 7 this morning I was exhausted and promptly went back to sleep, hence the late blog post!
- I did not run for national running day yesterday, although I’m not sure that day even applied to Canada. Anyways, I was in the airport much too long and was much too busy all day. When I muster up the energy I will be heading out for a 6-miler today though.
- Me and my mom are going here on Sunday and Monday night, they have no internet or phone so I will not be blogging/commenting/twittering or facebooking for those two days. I’m a little frightened but I think it will be a relaxing break! I’m already dreading what google reader will look like when I get back.
- My next post won’t be until Tuesday! I’m taking a long weekend break from blogging, I will still read blogs when I can but I won’t be posting any. Unless something incredibly exciting happens and then I will just HAVE to tell you guys!
- Please support my run for the Heart and Stroke Foundation! My progress has kind of stalled and I really want to meet my goal of $2,000! You can go here to donate and there is no minimum amount. Every little bit counts
- The winner of the movie night is……………..

……………..Meri! How often does it happen that #1 wins?? I was shocked! Meri, send me an email at amber (at) girlwiththeredhair(dot)com and I will get your gift certificate organized and mailed out straight away!
I hope everyone has a really fantastic weekend! See you on Tuesday!! XO

Um, don’t feel bad about closing out google reader or even marking all as read! I do that on a regular basis. I read about 20-25 blogs on a REGULAR basis and the rest if/when I open GR which isn’t as often as it once was.
Enjoy the weekend and family time!!!
I also didn’t run on National Run Day…I felt a bit bad about it, but I ran the day before…:)
Have fun at home!!! And enjoy your long week-end!
i think you would aboslutely have a heart attack when you saw how high my google reader got…. at one point it was at 900.. oh man that was BRUTAL!!!!!!!!
What the monkey is google reader???? I only read one blog and its yours…lol
Oh your lucky lucky duck!! Your going to have such a relaxing time there! Uncle Danny used to take us on little road trip out to that dam near there!!
Have a super awesome fantasticly wonderful weekend!!! :p
I can’t believe you spent four hours Reading and commenting!!! Google Reader can definitely be overwhelming - some days you just dont’ get to them all, and trust me girl, we ALL understand that!!! Enjoy your blog break And your trip with Mom !
and hey - you can make your own National Running Day and OF Course it applies to canada!
I don’t even use google reader, I literally just check my blogs from my bookmarks tab or my own blog’s blogroll! so I don’t get too overwhelmed but sometimes I will spend hours looking at blogs and commenting and feel like I should be doing something more productive… like work! haha.
I am pretty tired today. I was up late trying to finish a story but ended up falling asleep and then woke up at 8 and said “oh shit.” haha. and you know me, I tend to post late because I try to make writing my articles the priority over writing my blog. not as fun, but necessary at times.
anyhoo, have a fabulous weekend and blogging break
we all need a vay-cay sometimes!
I’m so glad ur home honey!!!
I’ve had to clean my reader out numerous times. Don’t feel bad! As long as I’m still in there you’re golden
See you on Tuesday!
Hope you and your mom have a great weekend! And I can’t wait to hear about it (and maybe see pictures?) when you get back!
What I did last week was create folders for my google reader like favorites, unsure, random etc and that way I never miss my favorite reads on days when my reader is out of control but I still have a chance to read everything even blogs I just skim now and then
Don’t worry about deleting from your google reader. Reading blogs is not supposed to be stressful, just do what you can!
You are such a dedicated blog reader/commenter!! I appreciate all your comments!
Hope you’re having fun at home!
I like to take a break from Google Reader over the weekend. I might occasionally read a few blogs, but come Monday morning, there are usually over a hundred unread posts. I try to take my time reading, and if I feel overwhelmed, I’ll click “mark as read.” It makes me feel slightly bad, but I feel relieved about it at the same time.
Have a great weekend!
Have a great weekend amber! i know, the reader fills up so fast!
I actually have a draft post sitting on my blog called “unsubscribe”…my GR is currently sitting at 184…after several hours last night trying to whittle it down. I have a rule that if a blog has 10+ unread posts I just mark them all read and move on. Part of this is that I subscribe to a lot of news feeds and political commentary blogs which update multiple times a day, but still…
I do the folder thing too - one for all the blogs linked on my blog, one for IRL friends, another for 20something blogger blogs…that kind of thing. But it can get seriously overwhelming and I have such a subscription addiction.
I’m about to go through and delete the blogs I never read or that have stopped updating frequently, etc. But I feel like I’m breaking up with someone, even if they will never know I hit “unsubscribe”
Uh oh…I hope I made the cut..
I definitely felt bad when I cleaned out my reader a few weeks ago, but I was just getting so overwhelmed by the amount of posts. It takes a lot to keep up with it so I definitely understand.
