Blackwell Dairy Run 15K and giveaway #1!

Thanks for all the great comments on the blog yesterday, I’m glad you guys like it! The 101 things page is up and running now, so if you feel like reading 101 things about yours truly–check it out!

First off, I should just tell you guys, that all of the amazing things on this blog are thanks to my mom and Eric. Eric did the image at the top! He spent hours in photoshop colouring her hair red and finding the right cat image that looked like Webster. I could never have done that! My mom did all the basic set up for me, she did the blog layout and figured out all the stuff with my own domain. So a great big thank you to my mom and Eric, this blog would not have been done without them!

On to my weekend and the 15 km race I did! Well, on Friday afternoon I was hanging out with my bosses, on the back deck, sipping a cooler–totally serious, they have a HUGE deck that overlooks the river and the city and sometimes on Friday’s they go back there for drinks after work–anyways, my one boss asks me if I’m doing the Blackwell Dairy run that weekend since she knows I’m a runner. I say no, I didn’t know about it and we move onto another topic.

Well that night I decided to look into it and found out it’s a 15 km run being held about 15 minutes out of town and the entry fee is only $23 and that includes a pancake breakfast. I was planning on doing 12 K on my own that weekend anyways so I figured why not. So, I signed up!

It was SO fun and I’m so glad I did it. I just love the race environment! I wish I’d brought my camera for you guy’s because it was a BEAUTIFUL run, when we got to the top of one big hill we were overlooking the river, the hills and beautiful green fields. It was a beautiful, sunny day and SO pretty.

This was the longest run I’d done since my half and it was very, very hilly so I took it easy and took walk breaks when I had too. At first I was trying to push myself and then realized that essentially, this was just another training run and I had to remind myself that it’s OK to walk and that doesn’t make me any less of a “runner”. I’m starting to think that maybe I pushed myself too hard during my half-marathon, because after that 13.1 miles was done, my legs HURT. Like they were in SO much pain I wanted to cry, and I was sore for a few days afterwards. On Sunday I finished my run strong but my legs weren’t hurting like they were after the half. I ended up doing the 15 K in 1:35, and I’m happy with that.

Oh, and it was literally around a DAIRY, at one point I had to leap over a big, pile of cow manure that was on the side of the road. And the smell, fantastic–let’s just say my stomach turned more than once, it was still fun though and I’m glad I did it!

OK, onto my giveaway! Today’s giveaway is….bars! We went to Costco last night, I was actually in search of Larabars but then I stumbled on Clif bars. I’ve seen them all over the blogosphere so I grabbed a box. I’m giving away one black cherry almond clif bar, one chocolate almond fudge clif bar, one chocolate chip clif bar, two cherry pie larabars AND a small thing of honey from the farmers market this weekend. This is GOOD, locally grown honey! Yum!

Oh, and I also busted into a Chocolate Almond Fudge one last night. Omg, delicious. It reminded me of those no-bake cookies, it was more like a dessert than an energy bar! Looks good, huh? Don’t you wanntt it 🙂

OK, so there are three ways to enter:

1. Leave me a comment below letting me know whether you have ever tried Larabars or Clifbars or not (if so, tell me your fav. kind).

2. Add me to your blogroll and in a SEPARATE comment leave me the link showing that my new blog (girlwiththeredhair.com) is on your blogroll.

3. Link back to this post on your blog and in a SEPARATE comment leave me the link to the blog post where you mention this giveaway.

Please remember to leave three separate comments if you are entering three times (you can enter only once or twice too, if you want). You also don’t have to do all three entries at once, you have a week, so if you don’t get time to update your blogroll for a few days then just come and leave another comment when you do! Make sure it’s on THIS post though.

Winner will be announced a week from today!

Also, me and my mom are still fooling around with the layout a little bit, so if it looks funny on your computer, like it goes over the edges or something is weird about it, please send me an email or let me know in the comments! I have to say that it seems like you can do a lot more cool things with a wordpress blog, but boy is it ever confusing!!

PS: If you’ve just stumbled upon this new blog and you want to learn more about me you can head over to my old blog, Amber Alert. I’ve decided not to delete it just yet, the idea makes me too sad!

  10. Amanda says:

Your new blog is so cute Amber! As for Clif bars, totally try the carrot cake one if you can find it. It sounds weird, but it tastes really good. I don’t even like carrot cake that much and I love it.

  11. Meri says:

I’ve tried the oatmeal raisin walnut Clif Bar and wasn’t blown away by it…but that being said, I’m open to trying the other flavours. Some of them sound scrumptious.

  20. ikkinlala says:

I’ve tried Larabars, but only recently and only two kinds so far (Pecan Pie and Chocolate Coconut) so I guess I’d have to say those are my favourites. I’ve never tried Clif bars.

  21. shoshanah says:

I’ve never actually tried Lara Bars. I do remember trying Cliff bars several years back and not being a big fan. But I think that was something like Oatmeal Raisins which I’m not a big fan of in general. So I’m willing to give it another try!

P.S. I love the polka dots in the background!

  22. Johanna B says:

I found your blog today from a post you left on another blog. I’d love to be a winner of your “bars”.

I found your blog today from a post you left on another blog. I’d love to be a winner of your “bars”. I love Lara Bars but can only find a couple of flavors here.

  24. Anais says:

I love larabars and clif bars (I’m super jealous you found clif bars at Costco!!). In the larabars, I love the lemon and lime pie ones, they’re my fave. Oh, and coconut cream pie! It’s amazing, you have to try it!

CLif bars, I love the three that you posted, and I bought a whole bunch of other kinds in the States, so I can’t wait to try those 🙂

I can’t believe Eric did the photoshopping…Big thumbs up to him!

  25. ann says:

I have tried both & love them! I actually really like the clif z bars for kids (the chocolate chip is my current favorite, but they are all good) because of their size and their extra sweetness! For Larabars my favorite was the nuts over chocolate.. though i haven’t had any for awhile & have missed out on a ton of the new flavors ahhh!

  26. ann says:

oh added you to my blog roll as well, thanks for sharing with your readers, so nice of you!

  27. Katie says:

I’ve never tried either bar. Part of me is scared to, but for you, I’d do anything, Missy! 🙂

  28. Sassy says:

I’m just catching up on everything here in the states and have updated my blogroll! I like the pb flavored Larabar and mint/choco or blueberry crisp Clif Bar. Yummers…
