All this week I am going to be doing “your thoughts” posts. The reason being, I am seeking advice from my readers on a few things! No, this is not a way for me to dish for comments, I honestly appreciate, and take into account the advice that comes from my readers. When I
asked you guy’s what kind of car I should get, your opinions made me do a complete 180 and I went from really wanting a Toyota
Yaris to really wanting a Honda Civic. Although,
I got neither of those cars, your advice is still REALLY important to me! So this week is all about what YOU guys think!
So without further ado, the first “your thoughts” post. What should I wear on my very first day of my very first internship?
You will be hearing more details about the internship tomorrow, but it’s in a nice office and it’s a PR internship, in case that kind of information will affect your decision at all.
First, a little background to my shopping trip because all the pictures you are about to see are of BRAND new clothes.
Saturday my mom and me went on a little shopping trip. Now, it should be noted that my mother HATES clothes shopping and almost never comes with me. While we were in the mall she even said that she was going to sit down on a bench outside of the store and wait for me! I wasn’t having that so I dragged her in to give me some advice while I shopped.
Before I knew it I was in a cramped little change room and every time I opened the door there was my mother, grinning at me, her arms overflowing with clothes for me to try on! After about an hour of this I opened the door to find her leaning up against the wall.
“I’m exhausted,” she said.
“Adrenaline of shopping wore off, did it,” I said. I might add, that I adore shopping for clothes. Love, love, love it. I find it one of the most fun, most relaxing things to do!
Needless to say, my mom was a real trooper and I got some FABULOUS work outfits. So please check out the pictures below and leave me a comment letting me know which one is your fave and, if you’re feeling ambitious, why it’s your favourite. I promise that I will wear the most popular outfit on my first day! Thanks in advance!
Oh, and I’m sorry that the pictures aren’t of the best quality, my mom took them using my blackberry and she doesn’t have the steadiest hand!!
I have to say this is my personal favourite (even though I love them all). It’s a dress, and SO comfy!

Outfit #2:

To the left is this outfit with the blazer, to the right is without the blazer so you can get a look at the blouse.
Outfit #3:
Outfit #4:
I also have a little black blazer at home in Kamloops that I’d probably wear over this top.

Outfit #5:
It was at this point that we decided we needed some more interesting poses so my mom told me to lean up against the closet. I originally looked like I was trying to molest the closet.
Note to selves: I should never be a model, my mother should never be a photographer.

Outfit #6:
Note: The red hat is not included in this outfit, I just wanted to jazz it up because all the black was kind of boring me. I have gray slacks at home that I’d probably wear this blouse with instead of wearing all black. And the hat is my mother’s. She has interesting taste.

Also, I would like to point out that all six of these outfits (minus shoes and accessories) only cost me $195. Yes, you read that right; I got SIX, fab work outfits for under $200.
Thank you mother for being such a savvy shopper and thank you Suzy Shier for having such great sales!
Now, go tell me which one you like best!!

Oh em gee. If there’s anything I love (almost) as much as foodie food, it’s business casual attire!!! My picks are def the dress (numero uno) and the purple blouse w/ the black pencil skirt! You look so professional! And beautiful! I’m glad to be back:)
I would actually have to agree with you, the first is great! It’s young and hip (as you are!) but it also looks neat and responsible. If you feel great in it, chances are you’d seem more confident and assertive. My vote’s in!!
#1 and #3 are my favorites on you! You look great in both of them. I’m a newbie to your blog!
My favorites are #1 and #5!
Well, I obviously need to stop by suzy shier!!! All your outfits are SO adorable!!! I have two favorites: #1 and #4, but for your first day I’d go with #1 for 2 reasons: first, it’s your favorite, and you should wear something you love :), and second, I think it has the perfect balance of professional and fun
definitely number 1!!!!! =) and i love the top in #4.. any chance that’s in a store in the states?
def 5 and 1…but def 5 good luck!
First, I love all of them.
I would go with Number One or Number Two as the first day outfit.
I’m also totally jealous you were able to go on a massive shopping spree.
I also would like to suggest that whatever you choose should be something you are comfortable with, in all aspects, you know? You don’t want to be more nervous/uncomfortable than you already may be on a first day of a new internship.
I’m sure you’ll look smashing no matter what you choose =)
I love them ALL on you! You look fantastic!!!
Personally I would say #2 for day 1 - I think that #1 looks BEYOND amazing on you, but I think a skirt and blazer would set the tone a bit better than a dress on the first day - I would wear the dress nearing the end of week one, it kind of says “now that you have my respect - see how hot I am????” whereas outfit #2 says “I am young, I am cute, but I am STILL a kickbutt business woman”
I think #5 is great for a first day, but I also love #1! They’re all cute, it looks like you got some great bargains! Good luck with the internship
i would go w/#2 for the first day for a couple of reasons. it’s conservative enough, but still fun (with the pop of purple). you’ll be in a professional environment and you need to gauge the office (i’ve worked in a couple of offices and making a first impression is important. i wear fun outfits, but stuck to something more professional on the first day). it also looks comfortable and you don’t know what you’ll be doing so comfort is important (as an intern, they might getting you moving quickly). good luck!
I love all your outfits but I agree the first one is my fav. I am just a sucker for dresses.
Your soooo cute Amber!!! LOL You look great in all of them!!
I would go with either #2, 3, 5 or 6 for the first day that way you can safely gauge how everyone else in the office dresses and as an intern you’ll probably be moving around a lot… and then #4 on Thursday and then #1 on Friday, you would probably be going out after work for drinks on Friday lol… and your probably going to be a little sore on your first day because of the run in Vancouver. Whatever you feel most confident and comfortable in is what you should choose

I like the idea of the top half of outfit 2, with the bottom half of outfit 3 — my rule is never wear a skirt on the first day. For two reasons, but only one makes sense but it’s a long story and I won’t bore you with it. I like the short sleeved jacket though!
Personally I LOVE #2. It looks professional yet not tooooo business-like and like someone said earlier you will be comfortable until you find out exactly what your environment will be like. I agree with Jen too…the #1 dress is super cute but I would wear it a little later in the week after you have already established a good tone with the office.
Having said that, you have done a fabulous job and anything you wear is going to be lovely with your personality. You are very lucky to be able to shop at Suzy Shier!
#1. Hands down.
#1 and #3! So impressed you found all of that for under $200.
This is difficult, you look adorable in all of them. (And I love your hair!!) I would say go with #1 because it looks polished, professional, and stylish. First days are hard enough, it’s obvious that #1 is your favorite because you look confident and comfortable.
Good luck lovely!!
I’d go with either #2 or #5 … they seem really versatile and have a lot of depth. Plus they are youthful but still professional.
I can’t believe you got all that for under $200! I am so jealous!
I really like #1 and #2- well I like them all, but those are my favorites. #2 is a bit safer and more professional, so it might be a good pick for a first day though, because you want their first impression of you to be someone who is professional and not too “young”. I’d wear #1 later in the first week, because it shows you’re not too stuffy. Then again, I might be overthinking it a little, hah.

I’d have to say outfits #1, #3 and #4. but you look great in all of them! I think that #1 should be your very first day outfit because you look super confident and chic in it! and you said it is comfortable, so that is a plus too. I love the white top in #4 and on a hot day I would say don’t cover it up with a blazer because it is too cute! but I don’t know what the rules are about sleeveless shirts at your internship… in California, people sorta wear whatever! ha.
major kudos to you for getting all that for just $195! that’s amazing. glad you had a fun shopping day with your momma!
Outfit #1–i love the dress!
i LOVE outfit number 1 and number 4 they are both fabulous
#1 is my fave! You said it was comfy, so I would go with that one.
You are so cute
AMBER!!! I LOVEEEEEEEE Outfit #1!! Oh my god, So flipping cute! Where did you get that?! And, I also love outfit #5!! They are all FABULOUS choices!! I cant belive the deal you got!! nicely done baby!! Cant wait to see which one you choose to wear!! Love you long time.!
I’d play it safe on your first day, so I vote for #2 with the blazer. But, I love all of the outfits!
outfit 1 and 6 are my favvvv
love them all though! you are so cute!
Outfit #1!!!! Maybe throw a cardy or blazer on top, you know how chilly air con can get
Holy smokes - you look so great in all of them. I bet it was fun going shopping now that you’ve got a rocking 1/2-marathon-ready body!
You look amazing!!
I vote for #1 or #3. but any of them would be fabulous. And I am still just in shock over the fact that you got those outfits for so little money! I could have used your shopping skills when i was in NYC replacing my lost luggage wardrobe.
My picks are 1 and 3.
And I have to say, I am like your mom with shopping. I really need to buy new work clothes, but I hate shopping, so we’ll see when that ever happens.
Holy crap you have so many comments already, but just wanted to leave my thoughts.
#1 is WAY cute and I think would make a great first impression.
#4 is also a fav of mine. Where did you get that shirt? I’m in love with it! It flatters your body and I mean that in a non-stalkerish way haha
Outfit 1 and 4are my favourites!
#1 for sure! Love it!
And I miss Suzy Shier. Clothes here in Oz are SO expensive even for the really “crappy” versions of stuff.
I totally love outfit one, it is so adorable! I want it!!!!
Love number 1 but would wear it on Friday.
For me, number 5 would make the best first impression.
I love number 1!! That looks so good on you! It’s sooo cute! I hope you let us know which one you choose!
Definitely go for outfit No.1! I love it! It’s very professional but also young and fun. The dress is also really flattering, you sexy mama! Great job finding such awesome work outfits! That was sweet of your mom to come help you out!
I LOVE out fit #3. It is just so cute and flirty. That may be because I like ruffled blouses… but still! And your blog is cool, keep posting!:)
