New Car

I’m sure your all dying to know what kind of car I got, right?

Well, here you go:

A Mercedes-Benz!!!

Haha. Kidding! Well, kind of, that is my mom’s new Mercedes. Me and her both got new cars last week! Guess that kind of outshines ANY car that I got hey?

OK, onto my car shopping day!
We started the car shopping last Monday afternoon. After I asked everyone what kind of car I should get, I got A LOT of people recommending the Honda Civic. Since they are very sporty, cute and reliable cars I kind of had my heart set on getting one.

So, first stop was the Honda dealership in Kamloops. They didn’t have much for used Civic’s in an automatic. I can’t drive a standard, disgraceful, I know! We did take a 2005 Honda Civic for a quick test drive, but I just wasn’t feeling it.

It felt small to me. I know that I wanted a small car, but I just didn’t feel comfortable in it and going from driving my Ford Escape to that little Honda Civic was a big change. I just didn’t feel it. I was thinking, “Well, it’s a decent price and any vehicle is better than no vehicle, so maybe I should just get it.” But that’s NOT a good reason to get a vehicle, for the kind of money I was going to spend I didn’t want to just get it for the sake of having it, I wanted to WANT it. You know?

By this point it was getting pretty late in the afternoon and we were getting ready to abandon our search. We went to a used car lot downtown, didn’t see anything there and were heading home. We drove past the Hyundai dealership and my dad asked me if I wanted to check it out. I wasn’t too keen on it, I didn’t know anything about Hyundai’s, but we pulled in there anyways.

I got looking at the Hyundai Elantra and started thinking it was a pretty cute little car. It was bigger than the Civic and it had four doors, but it was still kind of sporty looking. We took it for a test drive up to my apartment to show my mom and Eric and suprisingly enough, my mom approved of it! I don’t know what it was, but something felt really good when I was driving the Elantra. I felt totally comfortable and safe in it. It just felt right. So the next day we went back to make a deal.

Here’s the best part: it’s a 2008 Hyundai car with only 29,000 km on it and I have extended, bumper-to-bumper warranty until December 2013 AND he sold it to us for $1000 less than what the 2005 Honda Civic cost!

Haha. I made Eric snap a quick photo with me in it before we started driving back to FSJ on Saturday. I’m like, “Waiitt! I need a picture for the blog!” I look hot. I know.

Verdict: I LOVE it. It’s the perfect size car for me, not too big, not too small and it’s great on gas! Unfortunately, I left it behind in Kamloops for Eric to drive while I’m up in FSJ so I only got to drive it for three days before leaving.

Now, I’m right back to not having a vehicle again. It’s not so bad though, I’ve been walking and biking. Yesterday, the hair salon called to say there was a cancellation and they could fit me in to get my hair cut so I had to hop on my bike and boot it down there. Nicole (my hairdresser) was like, “I thought you must have biked here, you have mud splattered all up your back.” Haha. And for your reading enjoyment, here is a picture of my haircut:

I adore my hairdresser in FSJ, but she’s such a good hairdresser it’s almost impossible to get in with her. I called and said I would take ANY appointment between April 14-30 at ANY time and she was booked solid. Luckily, she likes me and my mom (and my mom’s a very good customer) so when someone cancelled yesterday she immediately called me in. Thank god, my hair was getting downright nasty!

So, there you have it, my new car (and haircut)! Thank you to everyone for all the wonderful advice when it came to picking out a car. I took everyone’s comments into account and they really helped me out. I will now be asking your advice whenever I have an important decision to make! XO

CONGRATS on the new car! I’m glad you found something you LOVE! kudos to you for listening to your instincts and making the best decision for you. And the car looks great! Too bad you only got to drive it for a few days before leaving but it will be there when you get back :)

and your new haircut looks fabulous! I’m a fan of short hair, though I have had mine both long and short. I want side swept bangs like that but my hairdresser, who I have been going to since junior high, never seems to give me what I envision. I think because I chicken out too! but that pic of you has inspired me and I really am in need of a cut/color!

    congrats again!!

  2. Carissa says:

Ooo, fun car! And way to go w/ your instincts!

I also do not know how to drive a stick shift! It’s sort of embarassing. I feel like that is something I should have learned before I got my license!!

    Great haircut!!

Hey! Love the car, and LOVE LOVE LOVE the hair! Looking splendid! I have a Suzuki Forenza and even though I get a lot of crap for it, AND the Kenny G that I listen to while driving it, I love it. It’s mine, ya know?

    Oooh, love the car.

    Your hair looks HOT!

Learn to drive standard. Seriously. Once you get the hang of it it really isn’t too tough. I don’t think I’ll ever go back to automatic now that I’ve been driving stick for so long!

  23. H-woman says:

Glad you found a car that you love, but you do need to name it!

The new ‘do is fabulous! I’ve been thinking of growing my bangs out and I’m dreading that in-between stage. Argh.

Learn to drive a standard. They’re so much fun! I wasn’t allowed to get my license until I could drive one (and had to do the exam in one). Dad’s rationale was if there was an emergency on the farm and the only vehicle around was the grain truck, you’d better be able to drive him to the hospital in it!

We should get together after the race in Vancouver (for which my training has been abysmal of late). Lemme know.

    H =)

I almost believed you bought a Benz… Nice one!

Lovely haircut <33 Once it starts to warm up a bit over here, I plan to cut my hair as well. I've already picked out the haircut…Now I'm just waiting for this weather.
