Whoops!

in healthy living, running, swimming

I need to remember that exercising more does not mean I get to eat more.

Yesterday, I did a 2-mile run, it was supposed to be three but I was having terrible shin splints so two it was. Then I did 45 minutes of weights: push-ups, lunges, chest presses, tricep extensions, squats, bicep curls etc. Afterwards, I decided since I’d missed the last two swim practices I’d go jump in the pool and do some laps.

First off, it is SO much harder to swim laps after you’ve just been in the gym for over an hour. Omg, my arms and legs felt like lead. I managed to pound out 10 x 50 sprints and then 400 m warmup and 300 m cooldown. So by adding the swimming in I burned about an extra 200 calories more than I normally do.
I came home and whipped up a delicious chicken breast, salad and a bit of whole-wheat pasta with tomato sauce. Yum! It really hit the spot. After dinner I really needed my sweet fix, so I sliced a small piece of an angel food cake that I’d backed the night before and topped it with some coolwhip and sliced strawberries. It was SO good that I somehow convinced myself since I’d done an extra 30 minutes of cardio today then I could have a second helping of dessert. Oy! My angel food cake looked SO much better than this one, it’s the confetti kind ;-)

Do you guy’s ever do that? Think you can eat more because you worked out more?

Wait, no way. What do you mean by, “I need to remember that exercising more does not mean I get to eat more”? I was not aware of this.

Crap.

I am totally guilty of this. I am always telling myself: “you deserve this.” I use this to talk myself into eating something I shouldn’t or buying something I shouldn’t.

It sounds like you did alot of exercise, though, so I am sure it was totally fine to eat that Angel Food cake! Sounds delicious!!

Hi! I was just stumbling through blogs about running and you are so right. The more I work out the hungrier I am, but also way more likely to justify excess delicious treats. How do you balance the extra with hunger with the right amount of food? And not too much more.

i do typically eat more when i workout harder. it’s the whole excersize points with weight watchers thing. but i keep it healthy and fuel-based, not like it gives me permission for dessert.

I did that alllllll last week, we never have desserts, but last week we had bdays galore and luncheons and dinners, so the no desserts turned into like one a day. I’m back to the no desserts. We usually don’t eat dessert, we love them though…..lol I’ve noticed since we started training that we’ve been craving desserts more. (have I said the word dessert enough yet…lol) There’s this dessert place called Crave Cupcakes…..the cupcakes are freaking amazing and are super dangerous….or one of our fav coffee shops has ginormous pieces of carrot cake with cream cheese icing!! LOL maybe we do eat a lot of dessert…lol (how many times did i say dessert??) :p

Heck yes! I am bad about it too… I try to balance protein and fiber in my meals post workout. Meaning, chicken for dinner and then maybe cereal with vitamins/fiber etc for dessert if I feel the craving.

Working out makes me hungry. I can’t help it. I should help it, but I can’t.

I try to ignore dessert for the most part. Except I’m a chocolate freak, so that doesn’t work out so well.

I love confetti cake/cupcakes too! And I finally found a frozen yogurt for must have dessert nights - Dreyers slow churned yogurt blends in vanilla…tasty, nonfat and ok calorie count.

You mean like yesterday when I started eating ice cream out of the container while still sweaty in my gym clothes? Oops!

lol whenever I manage to work out I inevitably end up having extra dessert. I’ll use anything as an excuse to eat extra dessert :-P

I love angel food cake! I think a lot of it though is reading the book The High Rise Glorious Skittle Skat Roarious Sky Pie Angel Food Cake. Has anyone else heard of that book or am I the only one?

Uh you just made me hungry ! That looked delicious :)

First, you’re really good at exercising - I’m a person who starts, stops, starts, stops. Any pointers?? All I do is work every day, and I don’t start school until August, so I don’t know why I’m so lazy…

Secondly, when I know I have been working out to the fullest, I tend to eat more too! Why is that? But at the same time, we have to keep in mind our portions :)
