Photo Fun

in Webster, blogging, family, photography, weekend

I’ve had a Nikon D70, that I borrowed from the journalism lab, lying around my apartment for months. I never found the time to practice my photography, which was the whole reason I borrowed it in the first place. Saturday, I finally dusted it off and decided to take some photos.

Friday night I was feeling a little down after not hearing back from the internship I was really hoping to get. Nothing makes a girl feel better than new shoes.

American eagle shoes courtesy of payless–$40.

It was SO beautiful outside on Saturday I decided to let Webster get his first taste of the outdoors.

He never got much farther than the patio, he was very cautious about this new “land” he was being introduced to.

I spent most of the weekend at my kitchen table doing homework. It’s my favourite piece of furniture in the house. I cleared off the stacks of papers and books that covered it for this photo.

Saturday night I was craving Chinese food but we had already had enough takeout last week, which isn’t good for the waistline or the budget. I decided to be economical and healthy and make my own.

Cucumber rolls, sweet and sour chicken and broccoli stirfry—Delicious and cheap.

Sunday morning, Eric’s sister and brother-in-law stopped by on their way through Kamloops. They only stopped by for about an hour but I managed to get some pictures of the kiddies!

How cute is this little girl!? I love her.

Most adorable little boy ever.

Webster didn’t know what to think of Lena, he’d never seen a “small person” before. He was cautious, never letting her get close enough to actually pet him!

Sunday afternoon, Eric and I headed out for a run. It was beautiful out. I did 8 miles, Eric did 5.5 miles. I have to say that the 8 miles felt SO much longer than the 6 miles I did the weekend before. My legs felt like complete jelly by the end!

My running partners—Asics Kayano 14’s, iPod, water belt.

Sunday night, we fired up the BBQ for the first time this season! Yay for spring! (Except according to the stupid weather network snow is on it’s way).

BBQ salmon, potatoes and a fresh green salad—Best meal ever!

I’m going to try and do one photography post a week, I need to keep practicing with the Nikon D70 before I have to return it at the end of the semester!

Hope everyone else had a fabulous weekend too. XO

If you missed some of the posts from last week, check them out. I’d love to hear your opinions on the following:

What are your feelings on animal abuse?

Do you love or hate Twilight?

Are you a morning or night person?

PS: I wrote a blogpost about rewriting and it’s featured on twenty something writers today! Check it out here!
Update: Thanks for all the fabulous comments today. To answer a few people’s questions, I did make the sushi myself! Eric had a roommate from China his first year of college and he taught us how to make many wonderful dishes! It’s quite easy, you just need to purchase the right kind of rice, some seaweed and a sushi roller. Then you can add whatever you want into the roll. We usually only make cucumber or california rolls! All of these things can be purchased at your general grocery store, I think we got all our supplies at Save-On!
Keep the comments coming! You guys rock :-) XO

Girl, I’m envious you can get up so early each day and post blogs. I struggled to get up at 6:15 am this morning to take care of the pup. Great pictures! Congrats on the 8 mile run, that’s definitely awesome!!!

the d70 is a super sweet camera. We shoot with a Nikon d40 that we’ve had for about a year and absolutely love it!

LOL that’s funny about Webster and Lena!! She’s getting sooooo big and so is lil D-man! I miss them!!
I didn’t go for a run this weekend but we did do about 20km bike ride around the city on Saturday morning. We even had to cut if short because it was getting cold. Well that night it dumped about 30cm of snow!! BLEK!!! so tonight is the usual Monday 3mile.
Your weekend foods look yummy!! We ate out a lot last week too because we were so busy running around. Not going this week though :)
I scored some sweet deals this weeked shopping too!! WAHOOO!!!

PS I joined Twitter….not sure how it works yet….

Hah- I’m jealous. I need to buy myself a camera one of these days so I’m not stuck with a cellphone camera every time I want to take a picture of something. I take entirely too many pictures, especially of Tigger.

Your food looks amazing btw. I should learn to cook as well :-P Do you make your own cucumber rolls? I had my first sushi a couple weeks ago and LOVED it!

LOVE the shoes!!! I haven’t gone to Payless in a while, and this just reminded me that I should drop by :) About the internship…that sucks :( I’m in the same position actually…haven’t heard from a position I was hoping to get :(

All your food looks delicious btw, you seem like a good cook!

I randomly came across your blog the other day, and I just wanted to say hello! :-) Inspired by your post on being a morning person, I wrote my own post regarding the matter.

I really like the writing prompts that have been posted on Twenty Something Writers, so I am hoping to find the time to complete some of those soon.

Oh, and you are not the only one who hated Twilight. While I did end up reading all four books (they did get better as the series went on), I absolutely hated the first book and have no desire to see the movie whatsoever. I read the books to see what all the fuss was about and I have to say, I don’t get it! :-D

I love the strawberries on your salad!

And did you actually make that sushi yourself? Did you have some sort of kit to do it, or was it all from scratch?

thanks for sharing your photos! I wish I had stuck out my photo journalism class in college. but I dropped it cuz my schedule was so busy and the assignments were pretty time consuming (and my camera died the first day of class and put me way behind!). anyhoo, your homemade Chinese food looks amazing! I know you shared how you made the sushi, but I am wondering what your recipe is for sweet and sour chicken? I would love that! (I’m not a sushi eater…).

Okay, that American Eagle collection at Payless? AWESOME. I own at least three pairs of those shoes, and all of them were under $20. Win.
