Goodbye Margarita

I know a few of you read Margarita Shapes Up over on glamour.com. I was SO sad to read on Friday that Margarita will no longer be writing the blog, I actually said “NO” out loud when I saw the title.

Margarita’s blog has inspired me so much. When I first decided to start changing my lifestyle over a year ago I logged onto glamour.com and used the Body by Glamour program to record my food and workouts. I found Margarita’s blog when she first started writing it and began reading about her journey. I have read every single post since then.

I honestly think that without the BBG program and Margarita’s blog I would not be where I am today with my weight loss and fitness. Reading her real-life stories about her struggles and all the comments made me realize that I am not alone. When I eat five pieces of pizza or a giant dessert, I am not alone. It’s this knowledge that got me through six months of weight-loss and helped me to shed 20 pounds and keep it off.

When Margarita added running to her routine, I added running to mine. Now I’m almost to my half-marathon goal and ran 10 miles on Saturday.

Margarita’s blog was also the first blog I ever started reading. I never read any blogspot or wordpress blogs before that. I started by reading glamour blogs and then found more blogs through the comments section on glamour and started reading them and found more blogs through other people’s blogs etc. Eventually, I was inspired to start my own blog. I’m so thankful for this blogging community and all my blog friends. You guy’s mean more to me than you could ever know. I wonder, if I’d never stumbled upon Margarita’s blog and been introduced to the blogosphere, if I’d even be blogging today.

I felt that leaving a comment telling her how much she would be missed is not enough, I wanted to pay this longer tribute to her blog and tell other people about her. It wasn’t until she announced that she’d be leaving that I realized just how much I will miss her blog and just how much it has affected my life over the last 15 months.

She has been an inspiration to me in so many ways and I am deeply saddened by the fact that she will no longer be blogging. It takes A LOT of courage to share the things that she shared on her blog and watching someone go through the transformation that she has experienced is truly life changing.

Margarita, you will be missed terribly by me and many others. Thank you for inspiring me so much. XO

If you don’t read Margarita’s blog already you should check it out and browse through the archives, her story is amazing.

If you read her blog, are you sad to see Margarita go? Have you ever had this kind of experience where a blogger you LOVED quit blogging and you were truly sad about it?

I love margarita. I had the same reaction. No! I think she is truly a great inspiration to many women overall, and she’s one of the most courageous because she wrote whatever she felt, thought, or had to share even if she knew people would disagree with her! and i’m glad she got people like you to start reading and commenting and blogging! i love reading random blogs. I do blog myself — and have blogged for about 3 or 4 years now. and just started up a new one based on what’s happening with me. http://www.mylucidsounds.com

I think everyone had some kind of out loud reaction…I certainly did…I’m still so sad about it :( Her blog was definitely one of my firsts too, but I can’t remember if it was Storked or hers. Anyways…she IS amazing!!! I read some of the posts of the previous shape-up blogger and…well…they’re not the same!!!!! The next person will have some BIG shoes to fill…

Now I’m sad again :(

Amber–You are SO sweet to share this with me. I am sad to say goodbye to YOU all, too. It’s been quite the journey, thanks to everyone who cheered me on! Thank you! Margarita

Can’t say that I have ever read her blog but I feel rather sad for not having known her in the blog world.

I was pretty sad when Kyla decided to stop writing her blog, though I understand her reasons for doing so.

Absotively.

I am a big fan of Phil Nugent (philnugentexperience.blogspot.com)
and was very distressed that he was having trouble making ends meet, so he was going to stop. He still pops up once in a while, so there is hope he will return.

I think, once you’ve got the itch, it’s hard to stop blogging. She may pop up again on a private blog somewhere.

I was so sad to read that too on Friday! I think I said NO out loud as well :) I read her blog pretty much every day. I always check out the glamour blogs. I can’t believe she is leaving though. When the first blogger I read on glamour, Alyssa, left (she was replaced by Man Needs Date and now Single-ish) I was bummed too. It’s funny how attached you get to someone and their story, especially when it influences you so much, like it sounds Margarita has for you! You should link this post on her blog so she can read it.

Hey, thanks for the tip! I think I might do that (re: the yoga videos). SO do you just set your laptop somewhere and follow along? Do you ever do yoga without any instruction?

GAH! The things I miss when I leave town for one freaking day to head to the marathon. I read Margs every morning before starting on work projects at the office. I agree, she is a total inspiration and isn’t afraid to tell the truth when she slips up in her shape up journey.

When “A Martini Always Helps” had to stop blogging about her dating life b/c someone outed her to her current bf, I was so pissed. She just started up a new blog, but I think because her privacy was outed the first go around, she hasn’t been able to write as openly or inject as much humor as she did before. Sad, but true.

I’ve been reading her blog from the beginning, but I’d fallen off recently because of lack of time. I was so sad to hear that she is leaving, and had to go over there and write her a little goodbye message. But I know this is good, because it means she is moving onto better things, right? :)

I had not heard of her blog! I wish I would have because I’m sure I would like it too.
Your story has definitely inspired me! I’m hoping to start running again, just need to quit talking about it and do it!!!!
