I heart Brothers & Sisters.
My mom mailed me the first and second season and told me what an AMAZING show it was. She watched the first two seasons in one weekend! I just finished the first season the other night. It’s such a great show. It’s one of those shows that makes you laugh, cry and keeps you on the edge of your seat at the same time.
I originally thought the show was going to be about this big family, all backstabbing each other and hating each other. But it’s not like that at all. The Walkers are a big family, yes, and they certainly have their drama, but they love and support each other all the time, no matter what. That’s what I enjoy about it so much. If you’re not from a big family (like me, I only have one brother) it makes you wish you were.
Spoiler Alert: At the very beginning of the first season the father has a heart attack and dies. He leaves behind all kinds of secrets. Like, he had a mistress for 20 years who he fathered a child with and he embezzled money from the family business. The show is basically about the family working through these secrets as they unearth them, at least the first season is. I haven’t had a chance to start the second season yet.
The family dynamic is SO funny. There are three brothers, two sisters and one half-sister. One sibling will find out a secret and tell the other sibling making them PROMISE not to tell anyone else, but of course they will and in as little as 12 hours the whole family will know the “secret”.
There’s this one scene, I tried to find it on YouTube but couldn’t, where it’s the day after Valentines day and three of the brothers and sisters have slept with someone. So they’re calling each other to talk about their one night stands. The two sisters are on the phone with each other when one brother beeps in to Kitty (Calista Flockhart), the brother tells her about his one night stand and makes her promise not to tell anyone. She immediately beeps back to their sister who’s waiting on the other line and spills the beans. I don’t know if big families are actually like this, but I found it hilarious.
I’m planning on starting the second season this weekend and want to download the third season so I can get caught up and start watching it on TV. It’s slowly inching it’s way ahead of my other two favourites; Desperate Housewives and Grey’s. I didn’t watch those shows right when they came out either, I watched the first couple of seasons on DVD, fell in love, and started watching them on TV. Seriously, don’t try to come between me and the TV on Sunday and Thursday nights.
Do you guy’s watch Brothers & Sisters, if so, what do you think of it? If not, what shows DO you watch on a regular basis? Does anybody out there come from a big family and if so are you guy’s like the characters on Brother’s & Sisters, always dishing to each other about each other!?
PS: If you left a comment or emailed me about being a guest blogger yesterday I will be in contact with you soon!
PPS: I’ve only finished the FIRST season of the show, so if you’ve watched more than that, please NO spoiler alerts for me! I like surprises

I haven’t watched that show before but I have heard good things! I guess I’ll have to check it out. On a regular basis? Well, the shows are “off-season,” right now but I love Rescue Me and Sons of Anarchy (both FX shows). I watch 30 Rock fairly frequently.
No big family, I just have a younger brother
I ADORE this show. It seriously makes my Sunday nights. The familly dynamics are spot on, in my opinion. There are 5 kids in my family and we all range from age 21-38, so are all technically ‘adults’ but we def have our Walker-esq moments! It would be way way way too wordy to try to explain one of them, but suffice it to say that some of us try to tell one person a secret, and then said secret inevitably gets told to someone else, and so on and so forth.
This is one of the few shows that actually makes me laugh out loud at times.
I also love Greys Anatomy – kind of hated it last season, but am back to loving it. It totally makes me cry on a regular basis, though. Like last week’s episode… But sometimes it just feels good to cry about someone else’s life… if if that someone else is a fictitious character!!!
I haven’t seen the show, but the scene you described about the day after Valentine’s Day sounds like my mom’s side of my family. Everyone loves to talk about “family news.” I’m close with all of them, but it’s funny to hear from my cousins what my aunts and mom said about new boyfriends, etc. I might have to check out this show.
I’ve seen one or two episodes, but nothing on a regular basis. But from what I saw, I liked. My mom loves the show though and we generally agree on TV. I imagine if I got hold of the box sets I would be hooked.
I used to watch it during the first season, but then for one reason or another, stopped doing that…and just the other day I caught one show (of the new season) and I was like huh…it’s pretty good! Maybe this summer when I’m unemployed and bored at home I’ll catch up on the seasons
AMBER! I love love love this show! Seriously, I watched it at Jen's the other night & was giving her the "who's who"… it's by far my favorite, and has long passed Grey's! I love any show that makes me laugh out loud and tear up!

I do not watch this show, but it looks really good! I regularly watch a pretty long list… here goes:
Dancing with the Stars, Gossip Girl, 90210, Privileged, American Idol, Greys Anatomy, The Real World, and Ghost Whisperer (it’s good, I swear!).
And this list is only the current list. Some reality show I LOVE are only shown certain times of the year – like Big Brother and The Bachelor.
I've seen B&S, and I think it's a great show! Unfortunately I don't have a lot of time for TV (and my bunny ears aren't that reliable anyway), so when I find time to watch something on the internet it's usually in the Grey's Anatomy/Big Bang Theory/My Name is Earl category
.
I may have to check
I sighed the second I saw this post b/c I used to be OBSESSED with the show and now I miss it:( You are AWESOME. I am now totally stalking that half-marathon training website. Seriously a big thank you. Any info is so appreciated. I would love to know more a/b how your experience was w/ it!
i had never even heard of this show until i read this! ill have to check it out, maybe ill have to borrow the seasons from your mom when i move back home this summer! the only tv i watch is on the internet, and these days the only shows i watch sseem to be Gossip Girl, The City (dont judge) and Secret Diary of a Call Girl.
im such a female.
I love B&S, and have watched every episode so far. I won't give you any spoilers, but the show has gotten better and better every season. You're in for a treat!
I watched the show on and off when I had nothing else to watch after Desperate Housewives, but recently I have started watching more consistently and I am getting sucked into the story line. Though, I should probably go back and watch from the beginning because sometimes I am a little confused about things since I have missed so much. Like you, I wasn’t really interested when it first aired but now I look forward to the next episode. and don’t tell, but the boy likes it too
Score another one for mom!!!
I’ve never seen the show, but there are exactly two sisters (including me), and three brothers in my family.
I’d say our family is sort of the opposite on the secret thing – our speciality is miscommunication. there’s always at least one person who has no idea something was planned until the day of or a couple days before.
