A realization

I’m 20 going on 80, apparently.

At least that’s how I’m feeling this week.

I think it’s a combination of it being that time of the month, spending 8+ hours a day hunched over my schoolwork and logging more time than ever running on the pavement than ever.

My body aches.

I got Eric to rub A535 heat rub on my aching shoulders and back last night, then I rubbed it on my quads and calves. So sore.

As he massaged out the knots in my back and it became almost unbearably warm from the heat rub, I breathed in the sweet, tingly smell of the A535 and my mind flashed to memories of my childhood.

I remembered countless evenings when me, my brother or my dad would rub A535 on my mom’s aching shoulders after a long day.

I could picture her sitting on the edge of the couch in our old house, shoulders slightly hunched, making small grunting noises as we massaged out the knots.

I glanced up and saw my reflection in the TV, I gasped as I saw the resemblance between the moment I’d been remembering and this one.

Omigod, I’m my mother,” I said to Eric, as the realization hit me.

I guess I’m 20 going on 46..

Anybody else ever had this realization? Are you your mother or father, or completely opposite?

PS: My discussion question is featured on twenty something writers today. Go on over there and answer it after you’re done here :-)

I’m both which is rather scary. I look like my father and act like him on many, many occasions, which while awesome, can be just as equally terrifying!

I also have a lot of tendencies that my mother has. Among them: too generous/kind, never saying no, caring too much what other people think.

I think it’s a good thing that we become our mothers/fathers, right? I hope so =)

Hope the aches go away and you feel better soon.

I’m totally my mother. My dad always teases me about this because when I was a bratty teenager, I would always say that I was never going to be like her. And now I totally am. I have some of her OCD traits. Like how there is only one way to load the dishwasher. And there’s only one way to slice an onion. Things like that!

But now that I am not a bratty, snotty teen, I am happy to be so much like my mom. :)

btw, I’ve never heard of A535! I am assuming it’s like Icy hot? I hope you are feeling less sore!!!

Hah! This is always me after a stressful week, when I try and relax and my shoulders hurt like a b*tch. I’ve never heard of A535, but hot showers usually help me a lot.

I do things all the time and then go “crap, that’s something my dad would do”. Even scarier.

Hope your shoulders get to feeling better!

I know what you mean about the A535 LOL Totally reminds me of my rents but more so, Eric’s dad, uncle Danny!! LOL I friggen love uncle Danny, he’s so awesome!! :)

I’m sore but not because of training….blah tonight i’ll go for a run! I have 4 runs planned two between now and Friday and two on the weekend.

My mom and dad came and visited me this weekend. And holy wow, I realized just how similar I can be to my mom sometims. First, we’re both planners and it was hilarious having my pops laugh at us deciding about what to do for the day. Second, my mom makes this odd face when concentrating and looking intently at something. And I noticed that I’ve been doing that same face more and more often.

I’m adopted.. the similarities to my BIRTH mom, without having met her until I was almost 19.. WEIRD. We have very similar mannerisms, as well as views on life, etc etc.

My adopted mother and I have NOTHING, NOTHING in common.. I do sometimes see my anal retentive behavior mirroring hers though.. only in the kitchen. The need for CLEAN. My poor roommates.

In my family, we sort of joke that I got the qualities from both my parents, my sister got their weaknesses, and my brother…is just himself lol! :) I know it’s a bit mean lol but all kidding aside it’s sort of true!!

I am constantly saying things that remind me of my mother lately. I get a little embarrassed but then realize it could be worse.
