New Toy

in exercise, money, running, weekend

Stats: Last week I swam 2,550 metres, ran 11 miles and ate good four out of seven days.

My stats are a little low due to being sick for three days. Being sick really threw me off, not only did I workout way less but I also ate like crap. We ordered Chinese food Friday night and it lasted us through Saturday, I also finished off the can of Nutella. *Bows head in shame* Luckily Eric had ate almost all of it already and there was only about three tablespoons left.

So, after having the crappiest week of my training plan yet I decided I deserved to treat myself to a new iPod nano! Well, that’s not actually the reason why, I’ve wanted a new iPod for a while now and it was on-sale, so I splurged. I had worked my butt off for the four weeks prior to this one, so I figured I deserved it! I also bought myself the Nike + iPod kit. I’m excited to try it out in my run tomorrow; does anybody else use the Nike + stuff?
Now that I have a great new iPod that holds three times as many songs as my old one I need some great new songs! That’s where you guys come in.

Here’s a few of my fav. workout songs:

Cascada – Love again
Rihanna – Anything by her, but I especially like Disturbia, Don’t stop the music and SOS
Gwen Stefani – Holloback Girl
Katy Perry – Hot & Cold
Britney Spears – All of her oldies, like Hit me baby one more time, Stronger and I love rock n’ roll
Maroon 5 – Harder to breath

OK, I see a bit of a pattern, which is why I need YOUR help. I love country, pop, dance music, rock and oldies. The only music I don’t like is rap. I HATE rap.

So tell me, what’s on your iPod? What songs do you run or workout too? And, what’s your favourite song these days?

I actually just did a post like this, so check my comments section for a million suggestions!

I’m LOVING James Morrison right now (not good to run to though, it’s mellow) and Gavin Degraw!

OOO, a new iPod! Yea! I have had a nano for 3 years but it’s sort of on the fritz. I keep getting the ’sad mac’ face so I actually bought a new iPod this weekend, too! I got the classic that holds 120gig. I’m keeping my nano for running though - I love how lightweight it is. This is silly but I actually named my Nano (pete). I spent so many hours runnign w/ it when I was training for the marathon, I started jokingly calling it Pete, so I could say, “I went for a run w/ Pete last night.” Well it stuck, and now all my friends/co-workers know it has a name.

I am loving:
- The Fray - their new CD is awesome

For running:
- Just Dance by Lady Gaga
- Don’t Stop the Music by Rihanna
- Single Ladies by Beyonce
- Let It Rock by Lil Wayne

* when training for the marathon, I realized that I subconsciously ran to the beat of the music. So even though I am more of a ’singer/songwriter’ easy going sort of music person, I have to run to something w/ a good beat.

You are going to love your Nano!! I hope you are feeling better!!

I have everything on my pod….but I only work out to Teisto or Daft Punk (Alive)….and then Aaliyah, Anthony Hamilton, Kanye, Mary J Blige and Lauryn Hill on the bike or doing weights.

I have the nike+ sportband (got it for Christmas) and I LOVE it!! It makes running that much more run, because you can check out online how amazing you did :) It also tells you how fast your going and everything, which is great :)

Here are a few songs that really get my heart pumping lately:
“That’s not my name”, The Ting Tings
“The Good Life”, Weezer
“Single Ladies”, Beyonce
“Untouched”, The Veronicas

I think the ipod can be a great workout motivator for so many people. I don’t use mine a ton, but sometimes when I hop on the elliptical for a long session or the bike, I’ll pump the tunes and just zone out. Makes it worth it when you have good songs to listen to. Just went through my itunes and found some favs…

Fighter-Christina Aguilera
BDay album-Beyonce
Wasted, Before He Cheats-Carrie Underwood
Gold Digger-Kanye West
I Kissed a Girl-Katy Perry
Since U Been Gone-Kelly Clarkson
Black Horse and The Cherry Tree-KT Tunstall
Knock Knock-Lenka
Family Affair-Mary J Blige
Best Days-Matt White
Blankest Year-Nada Surf
Carlene-Phil Vassar
Hey There Deliliah-Plain White T’s
Jump (for my love)-The Pointer Sisters
Umbrella, Take a Bow-Rihanna
Melt album-Rascal Flatts
Eye of the Tiger-Survivor
Tim Mcgraw
Bubbly-Colbie Calliat

MMmmmm… Nutella!

I like random music. I don’t listen to anything when I run, but I like to get “pre-pumped” for a run with a few of these:

Zombie by The Cranberries
Don’t Stop Believin’ by Journey
List of Demands by Saul Williams
Born to Run by Bruce
And Hooked on a Feeling by whoever sings Hooked on a Feeling.

Have a good week!!

I like to listen to Muse when I run, but that is more rock than anything so I’m not sure if you would like it. Let’s see, I also listen to some of the more fast-paced Billy Joel Songs, and the more upbeat Jimmy Eat World ones. I tend to flip around a good bit on my ipod- I just need to buy new headphones since one earbud of mine completely busted off.

Hope you have a better week! (you’re making me feel like I should start running again)

cool toy!
I love Maroon 5 also.

I enjoy a good rock song a la Nirvana, Staind, Metallica, etc for the days I’m stressed and need that extra push to run a little harder.

Not sure if you count Justin Timberlake as rap or not but Future/Sex Love Sounds is a fantastic workout album.

well i am the quintessential procrastinator. like I have 2 big projects due tomorrow and wednesday so tomorrow I am going to be in the Library for a good time :( ugh. But tips..I like to take a day and seriously work on stuff to catch up. Last Thursday I wrote about 80% of an 8 pg film research paper that isn’t due til next Wed. This way I can step away from it for a bit and then go back with fresh eyes. Its hard though but exercise helps clear my mind and gives me that “break” I need. But midterms are gonna kick my a%% :) I love the Ipod Nike thing, but I just broke my running armband :( sadness.

the fact that britney spears has oldies makes me feel old. but you’re right. i just prefer to call them pre-crazy’s.

kanye west gets my juices pumped. and easy-e if you want to really go old school. he was popular when i was a teenager.

It’s so hard finding new music to work out to.. I get bored sooo quickly with all my music. I really liked seeing everyones suggestions.

I’m obsessed with Disturbia as a workout song - anytime I hear it, it makes me want to lift weights :)

I also really like Bleeding Love, which has a rhythmic beat but is pretty peaceful.
