I need a new name!

I’m taking a mental health morning. I know what you’re all thinking, I just had a week off, why the hell do I need a mental health morning already.

Well you see, in my lovely Journalism 303: Writing and Editing class this morning we are re-writing an article that has already been written and published in both of Kamloops community newspapers.

Sounds like a perfectly normal assignment, especially for a journalism class right. Well, the catch is, it’s not in the course outline and it’s not worth marks. Huh!!? How stupid! Seriously just thinking about how ridiculous it is gives me a headache. I have way too much schoolwork that IS worth marks piled up right now that I could be devoting my time to! Rather, I’m spending the morning doing yoga, cleaning the apartment, sprucing up my resume, reading your blogs and studying for my midterm that I have tomorrow morning.

Does anybody else have ridiculous profs like mine!?

Some of you fabulous ladies gave me blog awards so I thought I should pass them on!

Ashley over at WRITING TO REACH YOU gave me the ‘Cute’s Blog Award’. Thank you Ashley, it’s the first award I’ve ever received in the blogosphere!!

I’m passing this award on to Carissa over at the lovely dove, she’s a journalist and oh so cute!

Nory at Walking through the rain gave me the ‘I heart blog friend’s’ award! Thank’s Nory!

I’d like to pass this award on to Amanda at One Happy Panda, her blog is so fun and she always leaves great comments!

Thanks again for the awards ladies! They made my day!

In other news, training has been going good. Eric is doing awesome, I’m really proud of him. When he first started running three weeks ago it took him around 45 minutes to do three miles and last night we did three miles in 35 minutes! The route is very hilly so there is some walking involved too!

Oh, and one last thing, I’m working on creating a brand new blog page (actually my mom is). It will be coming sometime in the next couple months and I’m trying to think of a new name for my blog, I want something other than ‘Amber Alert’. I want something that’s cute, catchy and represents my personality. I don’t oppose rhyming names or alliterations but also don’t require them!

Do you guys have any idea’s? Any and all suggestions are welcome!

Thanks guys! XO

Ha, I was tempted to skip out on class today too, I wasn’t looking forward to it. But alas, I’m here because I had stuff to do on campus anyways.

Enjoy the morning off though. What’s happening w/ the study group idea that was floating around?

I like Lora’s suggestions most definitely!

Amber (as a color) reminds me of the fall (season): leaves, trees, that sort of thing. I’m trying to work on the imagery in my head and if I can work it out I’ll email it to you.

Congrats on the awesome run last night. I feel you on the hill thing… they can be so tough. I forced myself to run each one and this morning my butt and calves are sore in a different way than usual =)

And double congrats on the awards and upcoming blog site. Can’t wait to see it!

What about Investig-Amber? kind of rolls off the tongue when you say it out loud. i don’t know, i’ve got nothing.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE AWARD! You’re the best. As for names, I had a helluva time picking my own, which is why it is kind of random, but if I think of anything, I’ll let you know. I would probably do something related to your red hair… but I dunno.

I will share one thing with you though. I don’t know if there are “Amber Alerts” in Canada, but in California, an “Amber Alert” is posted on electronic freeway signs and on the news when a child is abducted (started with a girl named Amber). So that is the first thing I thought of when I read your blog the first time! :)

  7. P.O.M. says:

    Amber colored energy????
    Amber Amuses
    The Amazing Amber

Ok, I’m not too creative, I guess.

  8. Amanda says:

Thanks for the award Amber! Now I’m going to have to think about who I want to pass it on to :)

Oh busy work, why do profs insist upon busy work? I have had non-graded assignments before that made sense- they were practice for the exam, and it gave us a chance to get feedback. But it sounds like your assignment isn’t all that useful. I skipped a class off on Tuesday morning because I was exhausted after work and had an exam that evening, and I just wasn’t going to make it. It happens.

I do like “Amber Alert” as a name but I guess it’s a bit somber, being the child abduction alert in the US (not sure if it’s the same in Canada?). So whenever I think “Amber Alert” I tend to think child abduction, which isn’t a very happy thought. I don’t have anything more creative at the moment though, I’m not very creative with names. My blog name came from the fact that, well, I just like pandas. lol

I guess I took your blog award virginity! I don’t really have any name suggestions, but I changed my blog name after 3 months of blogging and I’m really happy I did.

Some of the worst “ungraded” work I’ve had are in my upper level math classes. The worst is when an actual book will say, “This proof is left to the reader.” So in order to do HW you have to read, but in order to read you have to do more hw. Ridiculous!

  11. Cheryl says:

Nope. My blog title is as unoriginal as it gets.

  12. Jen says:

You reminded me of a TERRIBLE time in college once where my professor failed me for “plagiarism”…he told me that I had copied a bunch of stuff when I had cited it all, he just didn’t LIKE the way I had cited it…anyway, even though he agreed in the end that I didn’t plagiarized he figured it would be best if they used me as a warning for everyone else!!! What a bastard hey? I finally ended up getting the class withdrawn, but that was my final project and I had worked my ass off all semester for it…I couldn’t believe it…

Sorry, when you asked me to think up a name I thought of “Amber Waves” but that is Julianne Moore’s porn name in “Boogie Nights”…so maybe you might not want to take my suggestion!!!

  13. Anais says:

Great news about the blog! Can’t wait to see what it will look like!!

As for names…I really suck at finding some. But if one happens to cross my mind, I will totally let you know :)

  14. H-woman says:

Amber, I’ve got no name suggestions for ya. Sorry!

Hope you enjoyed your day! I would have loved to be at home in front of the fireplace on my yoga mat instead of braving the -30C for work.

You betchya, I’m doing the BMO 1/2 in Fun-couver! We should totally get together. hedder_2000@yahoo.com

    H =)

When I think of Amber I think of jewelry! HA of course I collect rings so that comes to mind! And you are not alone on crazy profs….seriously don’t even get me started…just saying-you’re not alone tehe.

  16. Amber says:

It’s crossed my mind to change the name of my blog too, if you do do it you will have to let me know how it goes!
    Good luck on your midterm!
