Eat, Pray, Love and my ‘experience’ with Italian eating
I started reading ‘Eat, Pray, Love’ this weekend. It’s about a middle-aged woman’s journey to self-discovery after suffering through a major heartbreak and a messy divorce with two different men. She spends one year travelling and goes to Italy, Indonesia and India.
I’m only at the beginning part of the book where she’s living in Italy. Reading that part was making me so hungry Saturday night because she was talking about all the amazing food and wine she had while there. I was hanging out on the couch in my PJs reading the book while Eric played video games and Webster napped in between us, I was feeling blissfully content but I my itch to travel began acting up. I couldn’t help but wish that I were in Italy at that very moment, filling my body with delightful carbs and wine.
So, I decided I would create my own little ‘Rome’ in my dining room. I put on relaxing music, made some extra cheesy pasta and a delicious green salad with oil and balsamic dressing and corked my last bottle of red wine. Looks delish right? It so was.
Oh, and something I’m going to start doing on Monday’s is a quick overview of my previous weeks diet and exercise. I think if I want to achieve my goals then I have to make sure I am constantly re-checking my progress and sharing it with YOU helps me be accountable!
Here are the stats:
Monday:
Exercise: Swam 2300 metres.
Eating: Good!
Tuesday:
Exercise: Ran for 21 minutes and did 50 minutes of super-set weights at the gym (back-to-back exercises working my whole body. I was sore until Friday from this workout!)
Eating: Good!
Wednesday:
Exercise: Swam 2100 metres.
Eating: Good!
Thursday:
Exercise: Ran 26 minutes, 20 minutes of core and stretching.
Eating: OK. It would have been good but I had one extra serving of the garlic-mashed potatoes I made for supper because they were oh-so-good!
Friday:
Exercise: Elliptical for 30 minutes, 50 minutes of super-set weights (same workouts as Tuesday except my muscles were STILL sore from Tuesday’s workout!)
Eating: Good!
Saturday:
Exercise: Ran OUTSIDE for 36 minutes, my first outdoor run, it was a three-mile, very hilly run. I did a little bit of walking on two of the hills but not bad for my first ‘big’ run outside.
Eating: Not so great, had three too many drinks and some not-very-tasty but still fattening spinach dip!!
Sunday:
Exercise: Scheduled rest day but Eric and I did go for about a two-kilometre walk to get groceries!
Eating: Not good, had a big breakfast, light lunch and a big supper, snacked a little too much after supper.

I’m definitely getting into the book this time around. It is a great read
hopefully when we both finish, we can chat a little about it!
I’m going to have to check that book out. It looks pretty interesting. Keep your exercise and diet up! You can’t beat yourself up for splurging once in a while. You’re human.

PS.. thats a good looking bottle of masi!!
BAHHHHH Steve got me this book for Christmas….I haven’t started it yet because I have three other books on the go. I can’t wait to read it though!!! I just finished Remember Me…i couldn’t put it down! Do you have any good book suggestions??

looks like we have the same goals for the year
i’m excited! Lets definitely share training progess with each other. my cereal is Nature’s Path flax plus, its really good! and what i love about it is it doesn’t get soggy really fast. hope you had a great monday!
mmmm I love that book! It was so good. But it definitely made me crave italian food.
And also, just let me state how much of an exercise inspiration you are! I know I need to do more than I do currently but I’m working on it.
I keep meaning to read Eat, Pray, Love. It makes me laugh that your hands feel heavier.
Eat Pray Love…great book. Never a bad time to enjoy the italy piece of your life. That part of the book just made me drool. Looks like you made quite the feast.
I’m really impressed that you can paint your nails so neatly and nicely in a dark color WITHOUT polish remover! I do okay with transparent pinks and stuff, but if I go for an opaque dark color, I have to do tons of cleanup b/c I just can’t paint cleanly.
