Car Accident

I was planning on doing a ‘you are what you eat’ post today, but since Eric and I got in a car accident this afternoon I’ve been wolfing down everything in sight. So maybe I’m a bit of an emotional eater, oh well.

Yes, you heard it right, car accident. We were on an innocent errand to Walmart, going to pick up a cat kennel for Webster. I’m a little fuzzy on the details but I remember the light turning yellow as we were entering the intersection and seeing this white car pull out in front of us. I think my head was turned to yell at Eric to watch out for the car but it was too late.

The next thing I remember is the incredibly loud noise as our vehicle hit the car and my whole face went numb. I started screaming at Eric because my face felt like it was three times its normal size! Then I put my hand to my nose, it felt like it was broken, and realized it was gushing blood. I really freaked out then. Eric gave me his sweater to try and stop the bleeding. A bystander, who said she was trained in first-aid, came over and told us to get out of the vehicle because it was smoking and it was going to catch on fire. My freaking out escalated even more. Once determined that the vehicle would not catch on fire and that everyone was OK, I was taken into the ambulance to get cleaned up.

It turns out my nose was not broken as I thought, it was just bleeding bad after the airbag hit me in the face. Once everything was sorted out Eric and I walked down to Walmart to collect ourselves and call a cab to take us home. A couple hours later a police officer came to our house and gave Eric a ticket for failing to yield to a yellow light. On Tuesday we are going to go meet with the ICBC guy to discuss whose really at fault and what’s going to happen with my vehicle. Hopefully it’s not written off. Hopefully.

I don’t really understand this ‘at fault’ thing considering it was a yellow light. Yes Mr. Police Officer we realize that yellow light means stop if you can and not go faster to get through it, but we didn’t have time to stop, hence why we planned on going through the light. In my opinion, the lady driving the white car should NOT have turned until after we went through the light, even if that means turning on a red light. Whatever, it’s too late now, who knows what is going to happen. Eric and I are both okay, the lady and her baby are both okay, I guess that’s the most important thing.

This chalks my total of car accidents up to two. They get scarier and more severe each time, the first one I walked away with no injuries, this one I walked away with a bloody nose, a scratch above my right eye and a bruised cheek. Hopefully, my track record does not continue to increase and get worse.

Probably one of the worst parts of this whole thing was standing on the side of the road thinking about how we had no-one to come help us. We are so far from home and we literally only have each other down here. We have no family, no close friends. It’s a scary feeling. I think we are both looking forward to heading home next Friday even more now…

I would have to say that what happened today is one of the scariest things I’ve ever experienced. I feel lucky to be coming out of it with only a few bumps and bruises.

Have you ever been in a car accident? Was it scary?

PS: I only had a sweater on as it wasn’t very cold out today and when I was standing on the sidewalk shaking from the cold and shock some random guy came and gave me his coat. I never even really realized what was happening and when I got home I was like WTF, whose coat is this!? I feel bad now though because I don’t know how to give him his coat back!

That’s intense.
I’m so glad you’re ok.

If you ever need anything…feel free to give me a call.

Next time make sure your first call is 911, then call your mother. :) I love you so much honey and it is as hard for us to have you there as it is for you to be there. I’d call the police and tell them about the coat and ask if anyone has called in looking for it. Post it on craigslist as well. I hate for you to give your telephone number out on a public place like that.

The fact that you don’t remember means you were suffering from shock I think.

I can’t wait till you guys come home, even with the cat. :) Love You.

Hi Amber. I am sorry that you had to expirience something like that. Accidents are NOT fun. The man that gave you his coat, if you can’t find him, pay if forward. If you see someone in need, as you were, do a kind thing for them.
My uncle and cousin were hit by a drunk driver when she was 3 or 4, and she was thrown through the passenger window of a van. A man walking by put half her face back on and gave her mouth to mouth to keep her alive, when the paramedics came he left. They put adds in the paper, with the police, everywhere they could possibly think of to thank him for saving their daughter. They never did find him. Some times people do amazing things, not to get anything back or returned.
the wosrt accident i was ever in was with my Dad, we were driving down Bald Hill Road to the bus stop, and it had just snowed and was super icy and we slid into the ditch and rolled two and a half times. It was the craziest feeling ever. We landed on the roof and in the old trucks the gas tank is behind the seat, so there was gas running everywhere… Dad rolled down the window and we climbed out. We both walked away scared, but not hurt. I hit my head on the roof.
No accident is fun, but the feeling that we had when we stopped was un real. Honestly if i could roll a vehicle and know that i would never get hurt.. i would! lol sounds crazy, but its the adrenaline that i like!

Glad you and Eric and the other vehicle are okay!! Sounds like it could have been worse. I wish you luck with ICBC.

Take care!!!
